    I had my first horse riding lessons today and I learnt how to rise and trot! I was only doing it for about 10 minutes and my instructor was just making sure I was getting the feel of it and I watched back clips of me doing it and my rythem was very off... I’m sure she will teach me how to improve that next lesson but any tips that could be useful before I go?

    • @rinamitchell8152
      @rinamitchell8152 Před 2 lety +4

      it might help to think about pushing your heels BACK and your toes UP instead of "heels down". if you're pushing too far into your heels your leg will slide forward and it'll throw you off balance. your heels should ofc be down but forcing them too hard can mess with your balance and your seat. i hope some of this was maybe helpful lol

    hello! I would like some advice, whenever I trot and post I lose all of my balance and end up having my stirrups all the way through my foot. Any advice on how to not lose balance and how to not get your foot all the way in the stirrups. Thank you!

    • @JSHorsemanship
      @JSHorsemanship  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi😀
      Great question.
      The first thing I would check is the length of your stirrups. Make sure you have a bend in your knees and they are not too long.
      You can also work on strengthening your legs.
      The two point is a wonderful exercise to improve strength and stability. Doing this for 5 to 10 minutes a few times a week can help to improve leg stability and prevent the foot from sliding.
      I’m doing an upcoming video on rider position, and this also may help!

    hi ive been horse riding for 4 weeks now and I can not master the trot apparently land to heavy and then I move my legs to being straight out in front of me is there any tips on this

    • @JSHorsemanship
      @JSHorsemanship  Před 4 lety +3

      Hi Bethany😊
      One thing you can check is your saddle fit for you. If the saddle is not a good fit it will put you behind the motion. This can cause your legs to be in front and cause you to land to heavy.
      If your saddle fit is good then you may need to just build up some leg strength.

      In case it helps anyone, the horse's barrel swings left and right. Learn to feel which way the barrel is swinging when on each diagonal at the trot. Then you can connect that feeling to the diagonals and get on the correct one.

    • @JSHorsemanship
      @JSHorsemanship  Před 4 lety +7

      Your instructor is correct. You don’t want to grip with your knees. You want to use your hamstrings, quadriceps and medial glutes to support you. I know this can be a tough thing to understand without a visual reference. I’m going to cover this in more detail on a upcoming video 😊

  • @zhafranaan6439
    @zhafranaan6439 Před 4 lety

    Hello. Can u help me. About knee, when a siting trot, our knee is no need to grip rite, just free it. And when rising trot, we need to soft grip with knee to get a power to rising, is it right? Thanks.

    • @JSHorsemanship
      @JSHorsemanship  Před 4 lety

      Hi😀
      Great question. Your correct. We don’t want to grip with our knees. When you rising to the trot you are rotating your hips forward and back over your knees. However when doing this focus on your support being more in your hamstrings and quadriceps.
      One way of doing this is to Imagine you had a tennis ball behind your knee. Imagining this helps to keep you supporting more in the back of your leg.
      Think of your leg as stabilizing and anchoring you down rather than holding on to the horse.
      I hope this helps 😊

    • @JSHorsemanship
      @JSHorsemanship  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Ruhma😊
      Thanks for reaching out. There are a few reasons why your horse could be slowing back down to the walk after asking for the trot. One thing you can check is that you’re asking in a way that’s clear and consistent. This is a video that may help 😊czcams.com/video/LUG-gzWbD7c/video.html
      When it comes to building confidence it’s all about taking one step at a time in the right direction . The first step you can try is riding with a neck rope to hold onto instead of holding your saddle. Start at the walk with both hands on the neck rope, then try taking one hand off at a time bringing your awareness more to your core and seat bones. Your balance will improve the more you can start to let your Core stabilize you. Once you feel comfortable doing this at the walk try it at the trot. Do short distances in the trot at the beginning and build to longer distances as your balance improves. Eventually as your balance will improve and you won’t need the neck rope 😀🐴
