Edit: Though I do agree with most of your opinions, I won’t entertain his in this comment beyond the god of war stuff because his opinions never got better. I disagree with the though that miles shouldn’t have been there at the end. Pete and Miles both got 2 health bars, he was emotionally invested. He had encountered agent venom while Harry was active as a hero in training. They had a working relationship and he knew Harry was important to Pete. Spider-Man normally doesn’t need a reason to help someone, he wants to. And that applies to both Peter and Miles. Never mind the fact that his friend and mentor was deeply emotionally involved in the situation. I’m also really excited for Silk, but I just loved everything about the game. So I’m biased.

@@Speakeazy not a problem, I enjoyed your breakdown. Even with our few differing opinions on the game. I understood where you were coming from. Because you’re arguments weren’t based entirely on a vitriolic hatred of “woke culture” in games, whatever the hell that even means.
I just wish they had played up Miles jealously at the fact Pete had been ghosting him, just a little bit more than 3 or 4 lines. Because that started before the symbiote made its was to Peter. As soon as Harry came back Pete never really made time for Miles. Stuff like that happens when an old close friend pops back up outa the blue after “taking an unannounced trip to Europe for roughly three years”. Then with everything he was going through regarding Mr. Negative, he felt his mentor and friend was ignoring him. And on a certain level Peter was ignoring him. Not always intentionally, but that happens with addicts, I’m all too familiar with it. I’ve lost count of the plans that had fallen through with an old friend, alcohol had consumed his life. Eventually it took him from his family. But that was years after he’d cut nearly everyone else, myself included, out of his life. But I digress, Peter ignored more than just Miles calls when he had the symbiote. He was addicted to the power to the point he let his protégé think what was happening was his fault, and he was willing to let Harry die.
My personal favourite complaint about this game is the one where people say that Peter dying after being stabbed in what could be any of like 3 vital organs and having the knife twisted and broken off inside him means he was nerfed. Their argument? " Well he got stabbed in the shoulder by Ottos tentacle in the first game and lived"... yes guy he survived getting stabbed in the shoulder vs what happened with the knife in 2... well done

Also, he was in pain with Otto stabbed him in the first one and reluctantly did it since he knew he would be in pain (after eight years he would know his limits) because he only did it after telling Otto that he couldn't agree more with "You have to be the man that can make the hardest decisions" showing this decision wasn't easy for him because he knew he was risking his life by doing it.
I feel like the game should’ve played up the fact that Miles was jealous that Peter was ghosting him and spending more time with Harry. It’s mentioned in the Venom boss fight but it was subtle.

So much to talk about here.
First off, the guy contradicts himself thrice. He states the symbiote mind controls you/enhances existing emotions. Earlier he also complained about Spider-Man needing a lot of punches to knock someone out, whilst fully aware he usually holds back. And lastly, there’s the fact he found the game to be easy whilst simultaneously sucking at it.
Secondly, the wokeness and all. The word has a stigma in my mind. The work makes me think of left extremism. You know why I tend to not like wokeness in narrative media? Because writers often substitute it for character work. I don’t hate modern strong female characters because they’re strong females (though physically, men just tend to be generally stronger, but with training, a magic system, super powers or genetics a woman can feasibly overpower male foes [and in the case of the hunters in Kraven’s mansion, those aren’t character, they’re literal NPCs, why bother?]), I hate them because they’re often barely characters. Just soulless husks with more often than not primary masculine traits, which I find disrespectful to both binary genders. I generally don’t care what a person’s race, sexual orientation, gender, whole shebang is. When you reduce people to such terms, I am a straight white male. You probably don’t care than I am and I don’t really care what you are. When it comes to people face to face, I just want them to be nice, fun people, with whom I can form a deep connection, because I value that. I’d say “they’re good people who just happen to be [fill in the blank]. Also, I don’t focus on such surface level things when I’ve known people for a while. I talk about interests, struggles and life developments with a good friend of mine who just happens to be gay. Sure, we can talk about romantic relationships together, but our personalities (and basically anyone’s personalities by extension) go way beyond that. I often dislike diverse characters in (mostly modern) narrative media because they can indeed be used to check woke boxes and nothing else. I just want good characters. Good character arcs. Sexual orientation, gender and race are just surface level things that don’t shape a character. I myself am a writer and my cast of characters in stories can be pretty diverse. But above all, I want them to be characters. To make them feel like people. Whichever diverse perk they may have can play into their character arc, personality or whatever. I love giving a character a certain look to give them an added layer of symbolism.
Thirdly, I find it funny how little the reviewer seems to respect what Spider-Man as a character entail. Like you said, he helps the little people as much as he can stop a sinister six. Spider-Man helps people in whichever way is best suited in a particular moment. And he can also save people by just being an inspiring figure for in universe characters, but for us too. That’s kind of the point of stories, isn’t it? They’re entertainment, but they can teach us things, we can relate to them because perhaps we’ve made similar mistakes. One of my favourite (writing) CZcamsrs phrases it perfectly, I’d say: “It’s not about what happens, it’s about why it matters.” In the case of Spider-Man. Sure, certain action setpieces and supervillains are just awesome because they are neat to look at. But we wouldn’t care about what happened if we weren’t made to care about Peter, Miles, or another spider person. We wouldn’t care if they didn’t feel relatable and Spider-Man is probably THE superhero with a lot of the most relatable struggles. He helps the Everyman because he is the Everyman. I prefer the first game narratively partially because it felt a bit more focused on events without the mask. Human Everyman moments. Damn, I loved just keeping track of all the people you could talk to at FEAST. I think the second game is more spectacle with fewer foundational ‘mask off scenes’ to enhance that visual awesomeness. But I found the scenes we did get to be good. Sure, playing hoops with Harry or riding the Rollercoaster were not the most riveting things gameplay wise, but Spider-Man needs moments like these to make us care about the narrative. To show us ‘why it matters’. External conflict without internal conflict is boring. Building a relationship with Harry, or showing Peter’s struggle with balance via aunt May are there to explain internal conflicts within Peter later on. To explain why he loved the power of the symbiote. To explain why Harry feels so betrayed by Peter. Wanted fewer scenes like that would mean omitting both basic story structure and basic Spider-Man structure. I found moments like the Scream boss fight to be good, but not great, because i think we could have been shown a little bit more about why it matters to MJ. We got snippets, but it falls a little flat for me. Still love it though. Realistic issue the couple is dealing with. MJ just kind of bottled it up. She was reluctant or perhaps a bit too nice to bring up her worries before she got the symbiote. Spider-Man always has a lot on his mind. And even without symbiotes people can have problems and they can just bubble up to the surface and be released in rage and stress. I know I just said we could’ve gotten more story meat that alluded to these issues for MJ, but it’s also realistic that we don’t know everything she’s frustrated with. It’s the summation of a little of big and little things. I don’t know if she really mentions being pissed about the mortgage before, but it makes sense that it would be a pressure point. Just a lot of little things that frustrate her, mostly because of Peter’s alter ego. And she knows Peter chooses to put on the mask willingly. And she accepts it and still very much loves him. But that doesn’t mean it’s all perfect. That doesn’t mean she wouldn’t long for more shared time between the two of them (perhaps Peter could attend dinner sometime), or that she’d never want for Peter to get a stable job so they may share financial struggles like the mortgage more equally. From what I know (someone who’s never been in a romantic relationship before [though this can apply to other relationships too]), you need to make compromises as a couple. It’s a tug of war in which you ought to strive to remain completely balanced. And to grow in any relationship you can talk things out that bother you. It may be really difficult, but that’s how you overcome hurdles and grow closer. That’s how you make love last longer.
The moral dilemma at 1:13:33… I partially agree with. It was phrased kill Harry and stop symbiote or let symbiote win and Harry lives. But Harry lives and the symbiote is stopped. That said, Harry is now a vegetable. And he said that there are no ethical dilemmas in modern superhero games. I don’t think he has watched the cutscene of aunt May’s death.
Miles yellow bio electricity is from the spider that bit him but his Evolved blue electricity is the result of Martin’s powers.

The black suit is literally a drug to Peter, thats how it was always written, in comics, movies, games everything. Hell even Yuri Lowenthal studied addiction and addicts behaviour for his performance in this game. So going by this guys logic, we should just excuse addicts who steal off their own mother because their addicts. Peter wasn't apologising because he's a pussy, he was apologising because he's a good person and was a dick to people, especially Miles and Harry. It was a reason he did it yeah, but its not an excuse. Great video man, and just so you know Synthetic Man lied about what gameplay difficulty he plays the game on. He claims to be playing on hard mode or the hardest difficulty mode in the game; but he is actually playing on easy mode. I learned this from people who watched his streams which is what the gameplay in the background he uses came from. To put it simply, woke refers to disingenuous representation in media, typically in regards to left-leaning concepts such as feminism and the LGBTQ+ community. Woke media is typically either toxic or only done to make a quick buck. The MCU She-Hulk show is a perfect example of this. What Spider-Man 2 does is genuine, unbiased representation born from a place of love and understanding.

The post details how the student thought that he was "one of the good ones", meaning he was the perfect representation of an African American that could be accepted by what he perceived as "civilized" individuals. The student did not dress in provocative clothing, used a vernacular that was not composed of slang, and as stated before was a college student. The post details that despite the way the student represented himself, he was one day detained by police who were chasing a "black suspect" who had gone around a corner of the street, ran into the student, and disappeared into a back alley. The student was subsequently mistaken by the police and detained, frisked without consent, and placed in handcuffs. He was eventually released, but the officers did not apologize, chalked it up to a simple mistake(despite the fact that the student was wearing VERY different clothes and was carrying a psychology text book). The entire ordeal made him realize that the problems of systemic racism and bigotry where not something he could just "blend in" his way to avoid. He essentially "woke up" to the reality that everywhere he looked, he could see the problems of racism in our society. The story has since been adapted into shows(usually a one off story), parodied in media, and even made into a Hulu special. Now obviously, the story could be fake, but the issue here is that it was never supposed to be an insult, it was used this way by the conservative right to disparage anything that called out their shitty behavior(more so than the term snowflake).

The speech about feeling like 2 different people and having to hide who she is so nobody knows the real her. The colors when her dad accepts her are pink blue and white and you can say that it’s not meant to be indicative, but when the trans flag is intentionally planted in her scene, it’s not unreasonable to make that connection. She’s not explicitly trans, but anyone with any ounce of media literacy can see the queer coding all over this movie.

I do feel like they kinda did Peter dirty in this game, it didn’t feel like Peter got much time to shine in the game. From what I've seen. Would have liked to see something like Peter and Miles helping each other in say the sandman boss fight. Idk. It didn’t feel like they were doing stuff together, much to me.

I feel the reason Miles managed to beat Peter while he had the Symbiote was simple, besides having the Martin Li Electricity. Peter was enraged, not thinking straight, basically falling into the Symbiote’s control of rage, While Miles was calm & keeping his head up, allowing him to focus & actually think during the fight
And he use the bell to his advantage

I'm only 27 minutes in, but I just had a thought. Taking away all of his stupid remarks regarding race, trans characters, and women, his version of how the game should be sounds sounds so BORING. He basically wants Spider-Man Warriors where we spend little time interacting with ANY characters, maul down any and all mobs, and every boss fight is either, like you said, the Mysterio fight from Spider-Man 2, or like in normal Musou's, a complete damage sponge where most of the time none of the bosses are fun to fight.

The gameplay was the same but with worse spongy enemy’s and horribly long spongy bosses.
I think Synth Man would kindly debate somebody no problem, but if the person is a raging spurg then Synth will just dunk on him.
I don’t always agree with Synth Man especially when he calls every female character a Mary sue, he’s only been correct about that 75% of the time, and when he gets things about the story wrong I call him out all the time.
I still disagree that the “walking simulator” parts of the game were bad. The gsme doesn’t need to be nonstop action and it’s good that it takes a little while to slow down, especially when it’s doing that for the sole purpose of fleshing out relationships between characters.
It’s also entirely a matter of opinion which I admit, alongside my next point which is that, other than the symbiotes, I don’t feel like the bad guys were spongy. I play on ultimate difficulty and it feels like they go down in a reasonable amount of time. Same with the bosses, however the problem is that the bosses have so many health bars

There's a reason fans of the Ultimate Spider-Man comic and the comics in general have been calling Miles "Peter Darker" since like 2011 for a reason. He's just a lesser Peter Parker in them and he was developed solely to replace Peter in the first place as stated by the editor for the Ultimate Spider-Man comics at the time.

Miles being better than Peter is not something frustrating, Peter IS training him to be better than him to make a better Spider-Man. Peter handled all the secret indentity and spider-man power all by himself, Miles manages to do it by the mentorship of Peter and the love of his family.
