I would have thought that was obvious since ITSV seems to be based on the Ultimate Comics. About the Green Goblin, Miles' story originates from the Ultimate Marvel universe. As such, versions of his story would naturally be set in a version of Ultimate Marvel. In Ultimate Marvel, Green Goblin is indeed a hulking monster in appearance (It's where his appearance in the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon is lifted from), though from what I know, the wings are lifted from 2099 Spider-Man (and probably Turn Off the Dark of all things). Hope that explains things a bit.

Im getting off topic, but,Oh yeah I do remember the old ultimate universe (Earth 1610), first exposure to that was through the ultimate spider man video game(I had it on the gamecube). I remember such differences from the main marvel universe, such as: Obviously Green goblin is a hulking figure, but also, Peter Parker getting bit by a genetically enhanced spider created by Osborn Industries, Kraven the hunter is Australian and once hosted a reality show, characters that are normal humans in the main universe like Wasp and Black panther are mutants, Bucky is still alive, the fantastic 4 are a group of college students that they, along with Doctor doom/Victor van Dame, got their powers through a government experiment, the avengers are called the ultimates, nick fury is African American and is general of shield, colossus and storm are 2 of the founding x-men, Rhino is instead a mecha suit, Electro and sandman got there powers through getting experimented on by Justin Hammer(normally a iron man foe), venom is a living suit created to fight cancer, Deadpool is a war veteran turned to a cyborg bent on mutant discrimination, Cable is wolverine from the future, magneto'sgroup is known as the brotherhood of mutant supremacy(in which wolverine was part of the group before defecting to join the x men) Punisher was a former cop turned vigilante after his family was murdered by Rouge cops, Spider woman Jessica drew is a clone of peter park Spider-Man, Hulk has no problem for killing someone, Rick jpbes becomes Nova, Adrian toomes never became Vulture, and perhaps the most infamous, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver committing sweet home Alabama (yeah not a joke). And this is likely a fragment of all the other differences made in the old ultimate universe to differeinate from the main marvel universe

if "they're different because it's a different dimension" is a lazy excuse then "they're different because they're from a different dimension" is just as lazy at the least, because it's running off of identical logic.
also how does he not realise monster green goblin is from the ultimate spider-man comics, the same ones miles is from. he uses the comics to support his criticisms, yet seemingly ignores very basic knowledge about the comics that would debunk his own arguments. for someone consistently bringing up comic book accuracy, i don't think he actually cares for the comics.
he also asks "what does this add?" to doc oc being a woman, but that answer is very clear, it makes the fact she is doc oc an actual twist, so we don't go "well that's obviously a villain" which is ironically a complaint he has about the prowler being obviously a villain even before we see him in costume.
these arguments are all brought up practically back to back, and yet not a single one has been thought out, as if they had been, the blatant hypocrisy would have been staring him in the face, and shity opinions aside, if you're gonna go after one of the most beloved movies from the last decade, you should at least think through your own arguments before exposing your entrails to the wider internet. but i guess that would require him to think at all.

    • @Cyber_Dragon
      @Cyber_Dragon  Před 10 měsíci

My best guess as to why he didn't make the connection was because either he did not read the comics or had little knowledge about those like me when writing this video's script. I considered bringing this up in the video, but I couldn't find any sources that stated ITSV's Green Goblin was inspired by the one from Ultimate Spider-Man.

Found the real problem with the review: as he admits himself, he doesn't actually care about the characters. That's why he gets confused about Peni Parker having a scene where she is sad at the loss of her best friend.
This is why the disintegration problem for the other Spider-People is also utilized: for the audience. If we are honest with ourselves, we cannot truly comprehend planet level threats, let alone threats to the universe or multiverse. If the characters we care about aren't affected themselves, the audience will care less about the stakes because we just won't comprehend it. Imagine Avengers Infinity War did not have a single character we know die, only the soldiers, random citizens and such. Endgame would feel much weaker in that context because the audience didn't lose anyone. Only the nebulous "populace" did. So by having the Spider-People themselves being in danger, the audience really goes "Oh no, THEY are in danger, and I care about them! We have to save the dimensions!"

    1. Why would MJ think spider-waiter is Peter when Peter Parker is dead?

I found a user (not gonna say their name because I don’t want to get in trouble) called out Christian lake for his behavior and not handling criticism in part 3 of his into the spider verse rant,
and so Christian lake responded and said that the reason he can’t handle opinions is because he couldn’t handle the amount of love and praise the film was getting,
so he pretty much created a three part rant on into the spider verse as therapy for him not handling people liking the film,
and says that he may be viewed as a jerk for it but that’s the world they live in,
Ok I understand why he didn’t handle other people’s opinions on the movie, but that still doesn’t give him the right to death threat the writers or call people idiots for liking the film.

7:31 Maybe because it's two different Spiders and different spiders will hurt you more or less depending on which type of spider it is (because they are different types of spiders), and this spider was one that doesn't hurt when it bites (because those spiders exist).
12:05 I may note that the Kingpin was always that big when it came to the comics and he wasn't as big in the live-action versions because you can't easily make a person look like that in real life (this might also apply to the PS4 version but I don't know the technology they used so maybe it was something they couldn't have done maybe it was something they could've done but either way the point of the Kingpin is that he's a massive bulking guy and there are several ways to capture it some which is similar to people in real life and some that aren't).
26:14 How does it look really stupid... he never explains it?
31:41 Does Christan Lake not know that different people wear different things.
32:00 At best Christan doesn't know that characters can make mistakes in stories and if why they made the mistake is well written (like in this) it isn't bad writing.
32:18 Why would MJ conclude that this is Peter since from her perspective Peter is dead (and we have no evidence to assume that Aunt May called her to tell her about the Spider-People coming in from another dimension), and if Peter is dead how could he be talking to her, and how isn't it completely reasonable to assume someone is either putting on a voice to sound like Spider-Man or someone with a similar voice (because some people have similar voices to other people) also their voices are very similar but not the same (because of course they're played by two different voice actors).
35:33 It's not that he doesn't want to get himself killed anymore it's that he knows that he has to pick himself up after he failed and getting himself needlessly killed won't solve anything.
38:27 It felt like an sometimes because it was supposed to feel like an acid trip in those moments.

  • @ARDIZsq
    @ARDIZsq Před 9 měsíci +4

This dude's complaints range from downright stupid to outright hilarious.
He's mad that Peter isn't one we've already seen before, he's mad that Green Goblin and Kingpin have exaggerated designs in an ANIMATED film, he's mad at fucking SPIDER-MAN having moments of comedy to ease tension, he doesn't like those subjective moments of comedy to begin with, he's mad at the movie making up things that weren't in the comics despite, oh I don't know, the movie not being a direct one-to-one adaptation of the comics in the first place, and he's... mad that Doc Ock is a woman... yikes.
He says he would "let the designs slide" if they were from other worlds, but like, Miles IS in another world, one WE the audience hadn't seen before. His criticism seems as if he thinks Miles' world is the same as the Raimi universe or something, it's just stupid and makes absolutely no sense, plus his argument contradicts itself. Like, he literally says in his point that the designs should be from another universe, but that this is also another universe, DIRECTLY contradicting himself in the span of what, two, maybe three sentences? And come on, he says it'd be a "lazy excuse," even though it's the EXACT thing he said. I just don't understand. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE!
And he's upset that Spider-Man Noir is voiced by Nick Cage? Like, you don't have to like him in the role, but it doesn't make the movie terrible, it's just something you (he) personally don't like.
His complaint about Miles' Dad and the situation with Uncle Aaron is so bafflingly dumb. His dad sees a Spider-Man costumed figure standing over a dying man with nobody else around, of course he's going to assume he's the one who did it. And how would his dad A, know who the Prowler is and what he looks like, and B, that he's working for Kingpin? I mean yeah, he's a cop, but they haven't done anything regarding either the Prowler or Kingpin up until this point.
And it's HILARIOUS that he brings up the Spider-Verse comics, and then proceeds to complain about Peni crying over the destroyed mech. Like, both the comics and this movie make it pretty clear WHY she'd be upset about this, and then he outright SAYS why she'd be upset, and then just goes "don't care." It's fine if he doesn't care about this scene, but he shouldn't be acting like he has no idea why Peni's upset when it's blatantly obvious why she is and he clearly knows why too.
Also, this is maybe a nitpick, but he REALLY likes his one recurring "hash-slinging slasher" joke. You know, for a guy who doesn't like the funny and sometimes pretty unique jokes in this movie, he really seems to think he's the peak of comedy repeating the same joke what, three or four times? Not even a unique spin on the joke or anything, just the exact same joke each time.
This guy is just extremely angry about basically everything in this film, and thinks shouting into the mic is a great way to convey his points and make people agree, because that ALWAYS works, doesn't it? I genuinely can't tell if he's serious or just trying to rage bait people, but either way, his points are nearly always just wrong. It's like, would he rather this have just been a complete one-to-one with the comics? And he sure talks about violence a lot towards the creators of the film. That is true, Peter Parker will always be Spider-Man and that it isn't a title. You can still have characters like Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy, or Miguel O'Hara be a Spider-Man, but not *the* Spider-Man. When I say Miles has to become Spider-Man, it's in the context of a superhero that stops villains and saves people via spider-like abilities. Do we really need a reason for it? It's kinda like how people complained about April O'Neil being black in Rise of the TMNT and that new TMNT movie (even though the first incarnation in the comics back in the day had April O'Neil being of a different race than white).

That's incredible. It's almost an inhuman talent. Christian doesn't understand that animation has to have exageration, clearly shows that anything he doesn't like seeems to be a him problem, drags on and on and on and on about something (like, dude, we get it), legit throws a death threat in the middle, edits like a sponge, answers himself whenever he asks a question about something, never understands a joke, sees the meaning of a scene (or the film in general) and of animation in general right in front of him... but like a poor marksman, he keeps missing the target.
    Have I left anything out?

  • @Silverwind87
    @Silverwind87 Před 9 měsíci +3

Problem 1: The Peter Parker of this movie isn't the Tobey Maguire version from the Sam Raimi films.
Who's to say he isn't? Peter B. Parker, the one we see for most of the movie, is from a universe called Earth-616. Not the same as the mainline Marvel universe, obviously, but it's clear that this burnt out Peter Parker is _our_ Peter! He could very well be from a timeline that had the same events as Spider-Man 1, 2, and 3.
Problem 2: I don't like the scenes with Miles and his dad because it's an annoying cliche.
Yeah, it _is_ annoying. Teenagers are annoying. You were a teenager once, Christian was a teenager once, Cyber Dragon was a teenager once, I was a teenager once. This is an accurate portrayal of what it's like when you were a teen and you felt like your parents were overly doting.
Problem 3: It's so obvious that Uncle Aaron is a villain.
Actually, in the comics, Prowler is an antihero.
    Problem 4: The Shoulder Touch
Yeah yeah, it's cringe, but like I said. Teenagers.
Problem 5: The Spider looks weird.
So? It looked weird in the first Sam Raimi film.
Problem 6: The puberty jokes are forced.
    TEENAGER. MILES IS A TEENAGER.
Problem 7: Miles' hands won't stop sticking. Why?
BECAUSE EVERY SPIDER-MAN GOES THROUGH IT! CANON EVENT!
Problem 8: Why is Green Goblin a big monster?
Alternate universe. And yes, that's what Norman Osborn looks like in the Ultimate universe, which is what the movie is based on. Fun fact, the Ultimate Marvel universe was also the inspiration for the MCU!
Problem 9: The two Spider-Men being able to sense each others' powers.
Well, that does sorta happen in the comics. Cindy Moon, a girl who was bitten by the same radioactive spider as Peter on the same day, has a sort of psychic link with Peter because of it.
    Problem 10: Kingpin's character design.
Kingpin is supposed to be disarming. You _think_ he's, you know... fat. But he's not. His entire weight is pure muscle. With animation, and cartoon art in general, you can get away with drawing weird body shapes. A skinny man can look like a pole. A short man can look spherical. You could draw Kingpin to make him look like a cartoon fat guy (big round belly and small legs), or draw Kingpin to make him look like a cartoon strong guy (large upper body and small legs), but how would you do both? You would give him a large upper body and a large abdomen, right? The result is a big, blocky figure that doesn't look human, but _does_ look menacing while still being disarming.
Problem 11: The dramatic scenes always end with a joke.
Yeah I gotta agree with that. God forbid we see genuine emotion in a superhero movie. But that's more of a problem I have with the MCU than with Spider-Verse. The dramatic moments aren't ruined _that_ much by the jokes. Hell, freaking _Spider-Ham_ has a moment with no jokes, when he chokes up while telling Miles that the hardest part about being a superhero is that you can't save everyone.
Problem 12: The Spider-People don't disintegrate out of their home dimensions in the comic.
Yeah, and the Infinity Stones in the MCU don't follow the two rules for Infinity Gems that are consistent in every universe we see in the _comics._ In the comics, you can't destroy the Infinity Gems, and you can't use the Infinity Gems outside of their universe of origin. In Avengers: Endgame, they say fuck that to both of those rules. Thanos uses the Stones to destroy the Stones, and the Avengers manage to use Infinity Stones from alternate timelines that _they_ created to bring back everyone who was blipped in their universe. They _kinda_ merge these two rules in the animated What If show, where it's explained that you can't destroy Infinity Stones if they aren't in their original universe, but whatever. The point is that it's an adaptation. It doesn't have to be completely loyal to the source material, and quite frankly it _shouldn't_ be. That's one of the best parts of seeing an adaptation, pointing out all the differences. It feels like you're watching something new. I mean, imagine if in Avengers: Endgame, they introduced Adam Warlock, who snatches the Infinity Gauntlet from Thanos and undoes everything without any issue? That wouldn't be satisfying. Imagine if the first Lord of the Rings movie had Tom Bombadil tell the hobbits where they needed to go and also wear the Ring without being tempted by it at all? That wouldn't make any sense in a cinematic adaptation.
Problem 13: Why is Doc Ock a woman?
    BECAUSE IT'S AN ADAPTATION!
Problem 14: The Spider-Cave is stupid.
The Spider-Cave serves an important purpose. This is Earth-1610 Peter Parker, the Ultimate Parker. His life was perfect. He had endorsement deals, he was in great shape, and despite being a broke college graduate, apparently was able to get his very own superhero hideout. The posthumous Peter Parker is supposed to be a contrast to _our_ Peter Parker. Yes, it wouldn't make sense for the mainline Peter to have a Spider-Cave, cuz like I said he's broke, but that's the point. Our Peter is a mess. But somehow, it was the perfect Peter who died, while the burnt out Peter was the one who helped save the day. It also shows that it doesn't matter how much of a loser our Peter Parker is, he's still Spider-Man.
Problem 15: Nick Cage doesn't add anything.
    CURB YOUR TONGUE, HEATHEN!
Problem 16: The comic recaps were repetitive.
Yeah, that's why they all begin with "let's do this one last time." The narrative KNOWS that we've heard this origin story a thousand times before, so they just give us the sparknotes. It's a courtesy for anyone who wants to start reading about these characters without being confused.
Problem 17: How did Jefferson Davis come to the conclusion that Spider-Man killed the Prowler?
That's sadly how it often works in real life. The first person spotted at the scene of the crime tends to be the prime suspect. This becomes an important plot point in the second movie.
Problem 18: Kingpin holds a memorial for Spider-Man and the heroes disguise themselves as the staff way too easily. And why does Peter get distracted by MJ?
This is actually lampshaded by Spider-Noir. "It can't be _that_ easy... It's that easy." If you want an actual narrative reason for why this plan works, here's where I come in: The villain always underestimates their opposition. He'd pay no mind to the caterers, because why would he? It's not like any of them would surprise him. He's Kingpin. He plans for everything... or so he thinks. And Peter got distracted by MJ because he's an emotional mess. That's what one half of this story is about, Peter being able to redeem himself in the eyes of _his_ MJ. Why didn't MJ recognize Peter's voice? I dunno, maybe she did but she just kept quiet because Kingpin was around?
Problem 19: What was the point of the sad moment with Peni Parker?
It doesn't make sense, but only if you haven't read any of the Peni Parker comics. That mech is all she has left of her dead father. It's a moment for the comic book fans specifically. Peni's a side character. Yeah, she does help with the goober, but she could've been swapped out with another Spider-Person. That's not to say she's useless, no. Her narrative purpose is flavor. She's there to make this story more interesting, and show just how varied the Spider-Verse is. And the emotional moments with characters like Peni Parker will make viewers want to check out her comic books, where they'll learn more about the characters. Seeing Peni show up for that one scene in Across the Spider-Verse made me do a bit more research about her, and learn about what she went through to make her so depressed. That's good writing! It made me a bit more invested in a character I know nothing about.
Problem 20: How did Kingpin not kill Miles?
Because Miles is a different Spider-Man. That's it. What works for one Spider-Man doesn't work for another. And like you said, Peter was already beaten within an inch of his life.
    Problem 21: Post-Credits Scene
It's a classic Spider-Man meme, why wouldn't they reference it? It also didn't ruin the Spider-Man 2099 teaser, because again, _it makes you want to learn more about the character._ Also I want _more_ Spider-Man themed Christmas carols.
In Conclusion: Christian is Nitpicking and Biased

Ive seen bad opinions from me, myself, and I. But dear lord... I think he might just be pointing out the smallest points he had pet peeves about only to make some half assed content that's not even entertaining. But only ironically, but idk.
Good content btw! Interested for more.

What a coincidence that this commentary was released on October 9th, because i released a Commentary on TrollsWorldTour2001's reviews on both of the Spiderverse movies on that same day

So the MCU undermining its serious moments with jokes is good, but Spiderverse adding onto a scene with jokes that are perfectly in-character is somehow a bad thing?
I feel like this "kid" doesn't actually know why something happens onscreen and is just pissy at things he personally didn't like
I'd also like to add onto the Aaron thing because apparently to this guy he's "obviously the bad guy" but........where does he see that exactly? As far as I'm aware there's NO indication of Aaron being the Prowler whatsoever except maybe him getting a call from Kingpin at an odd time
Hold on so, the villains being pulled from other universes as a reason for their designs is good but them being from THIS MOVIE'S ALTERNATE UNIVERSE is somehow bad? That doesn't make sense at all, if anything it'd just be an extra line existing for no real reason. Could it have worked? Yeah, but so does what we got 💀

I always thought the scene where he starts sticking to walls was a reference to the original Spider-Man comic.

Anyone else love how Christian Lake somehow thinks he is a better writer than the guys at Sony who made the plot of this movie? His alternate plot idea from around 24:00 in this video is interesting but the problem he doesn’t see and ignores is that it is too basic and not fleshed out at all. It is too funny how ignorant he is to how very flawed and bad his plot creating skills are

Wow the guy realy is trying to be nostalgia critic in the very worst way.
Basically treating a movie that actually had things figured out story wise and art wise but shit like nicholas Cage being cast doesn't "add anything to the story"
Seriously, they could have casted Robert Downey Jr. to be Spiderman Noir and that still wouldn't technically add anything to the story because it's not a damn Spiderman noir movie.

Mary Jane doesn't recognize his Voice because Every Spiderman has a different voice in every universe. His Peter was voice by Chris Pine, Peter B is Jake Johnson. They gave Spiderman a different Voice actor. The same way Mary Jane wouldnt recognize Spider-noir's voice too.
It seems like his biggest issue, is that He can not understand that the movie takes place in a different universe that we are suppose to not know of. Miles' Universe isn't Spiderman Prime's universe. Miles' Universe is the alt. Universe that's set up to be different than a normal universe, and for character to interact in. Why is Peter Blonde? Because in this universe is he. Why is Goblin a Goblin? because he is. Why is Doc Ock a women? Because He was born a women in this universe. Somehow, He find it more believable that there's a Cartoon universe with a Pig Peter Parker, but it's completely impossible in 1 universe Doc Ock can be a women.

I will admit that I at first was not a fan of the design of Kingpin for Into the Spider-Verse, but over time it sort of grew on me. And I also let it go as the design for the sort of over exaggerated feel this movie went for in terms of the villain designs.

That spider bite scene with Miles and most of the humor of this film is honestly just about the same kind of humor that was in the previous stuff Lord and Miller made, like the Lego Movie which had that exact type of humor. I personally found that scene funny because of how it made me think of the Lego movie because of it being the same humor as that film as I said before

Its so obviously that this guy is VERY influenced by review videos but all for the wrong reasons. He talks like EVERY single bad review channel would speak and its honestly embarrassing. I don't know if this guy genuinely hates the movie or because of the influence of either bad movie reviews or reviews of negatively received movies, he now critiques every movies for the wrong reasons
