Revisiting Street Fighter IV's iOS Ports

- While it's known for dominating arcades and the home console fighting game scene from 2008 onwards, Street Fighter IV also received not one, but three versions for mobile devices!
I used to play these all the time as a kid, so I thought I'd go back and cover these games in detail to show them off to an audience that perhaps hasn't seen them before!
MUSIC:
Kill the Past - The Silver Case
We All Soldiers (Instrumental) - Anarchy Reigns
Cashmere Cannonball - No More Heroes
Stage 1 (Loud) - Razing Storm
Hope with Doubt - The House of the Dead 4 - Hry
Looks like champion edition has a free demo version on the Google Play Store, so that's cool.
Yes, the demo is the actual game. If you want through the settings, you can purchase the full edition that unlocks all characters and online mode but will have you download extra files to access them. I did this a few weeks ago, and surprisingly, people still play online.
The pretended sprites in this port remind me of OG Killer Instinct.
On the snes?
shoutout to SF4 port, unironically what got me into SF
Thanks for watching, T-Virus!
I owned the X360 version, then bought the 3DS version to play at work. After I sold my 3DS, I still had a hankering to play SF4 on the go and forgot they ported it to mobile. I still have it installed on my phone and it's a pretty faithful port to mobile.
SFIV: Champion Edition is still on the App Store.
I have to wonder what the meta of these games ended up being like since I'm certain SOME people played tournaments. Also agreed on Volt having a great aesthetic.
From what i remember , Alot of people play sagat and zangied was pretty heavy in play aswell .his moves we easy to pull of aswell.
Ever since i rediscovered it after thinking it got deleted off the app store its been the #1 mobile game ive been playing lmao, its so fun
the controls reminds me of SF6 Modern control, especially Guile's, who only needs to charge back/down for Sonic & Flash Kick, while not completely broken like the 3DS one with the no charge specials
I remember playing the Street Fighter X Tekken and Devil May Cry 4 mobile ports coz i didnt have a ps3 😭
Devil May Cry 4 Refrain was my jam!
I’m playing this game more than 10 years. From the frist version Volt edition. I made friends abroad because of this game which I met.
Ironically, MUGEN creators can make better 2-D spirites with the 3-D models and animation
Violin Ken proves it well
@@SOK39 Love his work on those. Especially with the SF6 ones.
@@therealgmhere5988 if Only if Capcom put in the same effort as them for their mobile SF4
Especially with modern mobile hardware which is better nowadays
@@SOK39 I tell myself the same thing.
Even freaking 3rd strike looks and plays better than sfiv ce (looking especially at the hardest difficulty AI since they're different fundamentally).
Even in the simplest brain reasoning, it should cost them little to nothing to increase the visuals, yeah. In a period when they're remaking games from the PS1 era, with ray tracing and shiz.
If I had to guess, they probably did what Nintendo did for Mario kart 64, taking pictures of the actual models to play "pretend 3D." I'd think that shouldn't be impossible for them to do once again with a higher fidelity this time.
But Capcom doesn't really take the mobile scene seriously nowadays.
SF duel is a great example of that;
Always online *Gacha* street fighter is the way to go on mobile, of course!
When I tried this game out for the very first time with it's 20fps frame rate and extremely low res textures I was shocked.
The game was released for Android in 2018! There are mobile games that came out *years* prior that look and run miles better even today.
Of course they probably did put in the best effort they could back then, due credits given.
But for a game pretty much on life support 6 years later and is still asking for a "full experience" payment, that's unacceptable.
I keep dreaming of a graphical overhaul just happening one day, if I live to see it.
Underrated channel keep going

Funny how the ability to jump in and quickly play a game on mobile is what inspired this port when it feels like an eternity until you can actually start playing on modern mobile games. With all the tutorials and confusing menus that so many of them have
The free version of championship edition was pretty good, KOF XIII also has a similar iOS/Android port like this. Unfortuntaely it's old so the screen is in a different aspect ratio and the framerate is cut in half, but otherwise it's surirpsingly good. High quality mobile games are a lost art, and also literally becoming lost. If you have an old iPhone (or iPad), I think the 5 is ideal since it's the last 32-bit one, and one you can get back on iOS 6, and then jailbreak it. See what kind of stuff you can find and sideload, like MVC2's lost port, Capcom and Namco were both big supporters of iOS back then making lots of games for the platform like I Love Katamari, Katamari Amore, the Time Crisis Strike games, Ridge Racer Accelerated and Slipstream, a port of Star Trigon, Pac-Man Remix, a nice SoulCalibur port that actually had widescreen unlike the XBLA release. Konami had stuff like MGS Touch and that crappy Silent Scope game, and Capcom had a compilation and some downscaled "ports" and so on and that's not to mention a fair amount of new IP that launched and died on mobile like Demon's Score from inis. among with lots of other developers, MTX free and designed as a fuller experience than the stuff you see on Apple's top charts today.
I played a LOT of Street Fighter 4 Volt. I was traveling at the time and was playing a lot of SF4 back int he day and this was a way to just still enjoy the game on the go. I actually managed to find someone who had the game on their phone too and we matched each other while we were on a bus trip essentially. This was really great to have on the go though and I remember when Street Fighter 6 showed off its modern controls, I immediately thought back to SFIV mobile because of the Special Command button and simplified controls. Though, I play SF6 with traditional controls.
I still play the first one you mentioned. It's a fun experience.
Dude I played the hell out of that Resident Evil 4 port.
I remember playing SF4, SFxT, RE4, and RE Degeneration Lite on an iPhone 4 but i didnt know there was a DMC4 one. They really did the most for the limitations of the phones and theyre still fun. Im surprised that they got RE4 remake, RE7, and RE Village on the app store they still make mobile games and im glad but i just want to see more of their fighting games
Hey this game is also available on the Play Store! I still play it from time to time to waste time.
Amazing video I never thought I'd see anything about this game 😂 STREET FIGHTA' FOUR!!!
STREET FIGHTA' FOUR SON
I still play SF4 CE on my phone from time to time. Such a cool version of the game. It would be really nice if you also covered KoF XIII's excellent mobile port as well. It still holds up & was pretty ahead of its time, in regards to how it handles special inputs.
The no more heroes music took me by surprised, banger.
I still play this game daily. I vaguely remember the biggest change from volt to champion edition was that with the ups sled visuals the game felt like it ran slower. But after a few days I got used to it.
Great vid
I still play CE to this day and owned all 3 versions. Regular SFIV was one of the huge reasons I bought an iPhone in the first place as having a portable SF game was amazing at the time, and I’ve loved it ever since. The only other fighting games I can think of that were/are at this quality are KOF 2012i and SoulCalibur (which sadly isn’t available anymore). My only ever gripe with this game is that the original SFIV had 2 DLC skins, one for Ryu and one for Chun Li for 99¢. They never came back and they did not work for future versions. Other than that, one of the best mobile games ever made.
Just picked this game up on Android. Works great on my phone and even has gamepad support.
Damn that bounce game is league's ahead of the early Bounce game I played
I'm confused. Sf4 champion edition should still be on the android app store. I just downloaded a couple weeks ago
shoutout to bounce, what a goated game
i kinda dig the sprites there
Oh god I just played this game just a while ago
i used to like these games too
I got mine on sale on iOS this year and it’s a good game but it’s missing some things that I like 😭
For a mobile fighting game, this was really good.
oh I just can't let this guilty gear joke pass like that. I'm 25 and my friend is 26, we're playing xx and xrd like all the time local and online haha. Great video tho!
The last TRUE Street Fighter 😤
I remember playing this at NYCC when it was coming out and being blown away. Hard to believe in just 10 years our expectations have changed so much that this looks awful, clunky and stuttery. I have fond memories of playing VOLT at restaurants waiting for my food with my friends and just abusing the fact Guile didnt have to charge if you used the SP button to flash kick
I've honestly got a bit of hatred for vanilla SFIV on iOS. 10 characters, no online, and a new version released just a few months later. I've ALSO got hatred for 3D Edition due to Ono promising a possible Arcade edition update and everything but arcade mode running at 30 FPS.
Can u play 2 players against your friends on iPad?
Why am I taking strays for being a guilty gear fan, I'm not 16, I'm 24 wtf
2gb is a miniature mobile game these days
i optimize ts every day
Review KoF A/I 2012 basically mobile port of KoF XIII
That game is in play store
the fact the iPhone port is worse than the 3DS one lmao
also 2GB ain't big at all specially when you look at Spongebob BFBB, Fortnite, Warzone Mobile, CoD Mobile (after all assets download) or Genshin Impact, THOSE ARE BIG
You had a great point, yet you missed so hard. Seriously, you're comparing games that were released after 2012, that was big at the time, I assure you.
@@hithere01 2GB is for Champion Edition which released in 2017.

Wait what was that dig at Guilty Gear fans? I don't get it
@@greatestutuberhd Strivers are really young compared to the player bases of other fighting games
Me who is a 20 year old guilty gear fan: 🗿
@@union1st oldest Striver on Earth lmao. Thanks for watching!
It’s to easy with the inputs
If you want to prove yourself to...yourself
Simply play with *SP move assist* disabled. Then it won't be as easy.
Lets be brutally clear and honest, mobile gaming is NOT gaming. Mobile ports shouldn't be considered as gaming titles.
