Learn how to play Tush the way Billy Gibbons plays it live!
Tush is such a classic ZZ Top song, and it's both fun and a bit tricky to play. If you keep your guitar strung low, it's hard to do that thumb over the neck thing.
The song is basically a typical blues, but it's more of a blues-rock style. The bass is thumping, and the guitar keeps chugging long. Tush is crowd pleaser for sure!
I used two guitar tones from the Axe-Fx, hard panned left/right. The left guitar is a JCM 800 style preset, and the right is a Silver Jubilee style.
Hope you can dig it!

Thats the best tutorial of this song I have seen. Thank you very very much.
Glad it was helpful!
I remember being little and hearing my dads band practice this over&over&over...drove me nuts! Lol!
Then when I got into guitar ,14,in the early 90's ....I had to learn it!
I remember being at a bar, jammin with the band ,they let me play it!..time came for the slide guitar part ,I grabbed the nearest beer bottle I could find, which wasn't hard, lol! And away I went,GOOD TIMES! Thanks for the memories! RAWK!
Everyone likes a little ZZ. Fantastic guitar song. Keep chugging these kinda lessons out and your numbers will grow exponentially! Great job as usual Robert.
Great lesson. Nice to see someone who plays the turnaround the right way!
OMG - if you only knew how long I have been trying to work that out. As is so often the case - once the solution is presented it becomes glaringly obvious. Clear concise tuition. Thank you.
Thank you for taking the time to show us this song. I always wanted to learn it.
Flawless. Superb Robert, thanks!
Very cool rendition of this Houston trio classic and once again........very versatile jazz guitar that can handle rock 'n roll as well as jazz and blues!! Now all we need is a dynamite cool biting solo to complete the ZZ package!! Jivin' Jim
Can’t wait to learn thanks Robert
Thanks for that cool turnaround. You do a lot of hip licks and tunes.
Cool, nice lesson in fact the best lesson on Tush I’ve ever seen!! Glad I found your channel
Another point of interest, is that Billy plays a .007 gauge of strings. (Rev. Willy's Mexican Lottery Brand) .007-.038 !!
Great video! Billy Gibbons has a way of presenting the notes is a very unique way. Almost like they sound harder than they are...kind of a 'less is more' thing. Either way, nicely done & thanks for sharing!
Sir , Thank you so much for this . I have been playing many years and have struggled with , Job < Family < Kids Wife music . I am so very grateful for you taking the time to teach this way .
Gob Bless

GREAT TUTORIAL!!! This is serious work!! and I meen it: you did your homework... This is the way Billy Gibbons must have played that tune. I dont mind doing of a song but I always try to find a way to play the tune the way the creator voiced it originaly. If you look closely how Gibbons hold the instrument and its close relation to Jimmy Hendrix handling ... this is a great version of it!!
Great lesson.
Thanks!

Very nice. Kinda funny, I learned that song by ear from a record player back when I was a kid in the late 70s. Took me forever and I must have lifted that need a thousand times until I was sure I had that song perfect. I’ve been playing it off and on ever since then and less as the years went by. However, never went back as an adult to revisit using our modern tools. Looks like I
I had it close. Lol. But missed a few things. Thanks bro!
That's how I learned too. I used to wear the records out. 16 rpm was almost an octive lower.
