    Great series of videos! Appreciate the effort put in here. I'm and old guy riding a ZX9R, I don't have the access to experience a lot of different product so I rely on information to choose my next set of tires, bike is currently on its 3rd set of OEM Battlax and from the information here OEM may have made the best choice for me to start with.

    Just put the Shinkos on my bike. I have no problems leaning the bike over. At all. The grip is perfectly fine. Flat spots???? Right, I'm sure a motorcycle tire company manufactures flat tires. They're cheaper and they are very durable. As long as your not doing serious track riding, these Shinkos are a great choice.

    On the subject of that Metzler M5. I went looking for something like a bigger sports bike, that could carry two people. I ended up with a ZX14. The original Bridgestones stood up all the time and didn't warm up or grip real well. So I went looking for a replacement. Long story short, nothing really seemed to suit the bike. Then I got suggested an M5. They take a little while to scrub in, and you want to warm them up before you ask any big questions, but they're a fairly stiff solid carcass and a heavy bike does not make them squash and stand up all the time. They grip well and the steering remains neutral. If you own a big bike like a 1200 Bandit, a ZX14 or a Hyabusa or a Blackbird, do have a look at the M5. As a sporty tyre for 'busa class bikes, they're extremely good.

      @jeasyyoutube63 Před 6 lety

      The 016 litterally sucks when you ride in rain. It loses traction fast, not confidence inspiring at all. Dry grip is decent, I dont get alot of feel / feedback out of the 016s tho.

      Or was the profile picture taken before it grew out..?
      THANKS for the GREAT Information! I know that tire comparisons are like lap-top computer comparisons...by the time you get them edited and posted, NEW products are already hitting the Market!
      I LOVE my Q3's!!
      For my first Track Day on my then new Fz1, I still had the Factory OEM Bridgestones on the bike...but I picked up a nail in the rr on my way there...
      Dunlop was 'sponsoring' part of the cost of the Track Day -- and had Scott Russell there giving RIDES on his Q3 equipped Fz1! So, of course, a Q3 went on the back of my bike! I was (and still am) "new" to Sport riding after 30+ years of riding dirt bikes to "classic Standards" like KZ900's and Kaw 2-stroke triples, to cruisers. But I could tell a CLEAR difference in the very first session with the Q3 vs the 2,000+ miles I had already put on the Bridgestone... and I am now on the 3rd set of Q3's -- front and rr of course.
      BUT, the Q3's DO make me feel uncomfortable in the rain...

      TheSydguy30 I'm riding Pirelli supercorsa spv2 right now but have a metzler m7RR on my second spare rear wheel for everyday riding and I'll tell ya it hooks up so well that I have left it on for more than one of my Sunday group rides just to see if you can run full pace with it. And yes it's amazing. You won't need anymore for the street in my opinion. And I do wear the edges of my tires off while still having plenty in the center so definitely using it to its max potential for sure. I absolutely love the tires. As for the front a stick with a supercorsa being I love the profile and you never know when you can make a mistake and go in way too hard and have to throw it in anyway praying for the best. I'd say my front supercorsa has saved me more than once.

    funny thing when i got my bike, it came with cheap $45 shinko front tire. 120 70 17, i was like no way this one cant handles fast corner. i wasnt totally wrong, 1st its like over 3 years old, cracking, but still have deep treads. so i slowly riding fast, it handles well, didnt lose traction, now the side wall almost no treads, but center still looks new. none the less if i get a used bike again i would get q3 right away, for bike tire you dont want to wait and cheap out.

  • @georgepaco9013
    @georgepaco9013 Před 4 lety

    Newsflash.
    The Shenko tire might also be good, not if they change the whole design, as you seem to surmise (what could they know about making a motorcycle tire that you obviously seem to think that you know better... and yet....) , and if you yourself and your crew spent some time experimenting with air pressures and suspension settings and oh... maybe geometry? Think? Were you running Shenko’s recommendations on pressures or did you just give it a guess per your test explanation video?

    • @georgepaco9013
      @georgepaco9013 Před 4 lety

      So the Bridgestone is your personal favorite of the group. So why is it ranked third?
      Maybe if you’d played with air pressures in the Shenko, instead of apparently not doing so, that one would have been your favorite.
      It’s always funny when you encounter a rider who’s faster than yourself on tires you’ve personally professed to be crap!
      I’d really specify.... that you’d be better to do a whole trackday on each of these tires. Have someone that knows a few things do adjustments so you can actually “get the best” from each tire set. Instead of the three blind men each describing the elephant, each from their limited perspective and the results being just what?
      So you took issue with the Avon squirming around. Which the Bridgestone didn’t do, but you rated it higher and better than the Bridgestone? Maybe the Avon is giving you better feedback than the Bridgestone? You can feel what the tires doing vs the tires just rock solid till BOOM it lets go. Hmmm. You seem to not like the squirming, but you rate the Avon better than the Bridgestone.
      The metzeler doesn’t have that soft feel. You liked it best but the steering seemed slower. But don’t play around with tire pressures or geometry to optimize it. Like “Oh!!! You mean geometry can affect how a bike and tire combination steers?”! This after he said that the tire feels tall! Maybe you need to raise the front forks 5-6 mm in the tripleclamps???
      It looked like the lap times were all close but with the Shenko’s. I bet a little playing around with setup would have the Shenko lap times a WHOLE LOT closer to the rest.

    • @georgepaco9013
      @georgepaco9013 Před 4 lety

      Ha ha bloody ha ha.
      No. All that scientific complication would be too much. And where is Michelin? Continental? Dunlop?
      If you’d bought the tires for the test retail, you’d have all the tires on hand and be doing your audience a real favor! Or would you?? Seeing as your approach seems so radically flawed.....

    • @TheSydguy30
      @TheSydguy30 Před 9 lety +1

      Was thinking of getting some of those, so you don't really agree with the review on that particular tyre? It seemed the best (all 8's) score wise for performance and dollar ratios, sucks to hear it scares you, I got Pilot Sport 2's on mine and I HATE them bad. It actually made me dislike riding so I'm looking for a tyre that doesn't feel like it is constantly going to crash in a corner or fall.
      I used to use Michelin Pilot Sports all the time or Metzlers equiv and never had a problem before the 2 compound stuff.

    • @BucketWheat
      @BucketWheat Před 8 lety

      +Libo Hou ..My Fz1 came with 016's as OEM. Since I was "new" to hard-edge Sport Standards, I didn't really know any difference in tires of that category. And since I was 'learning' that riding style -- after 30+ yrs of dirt bikes to 70's 'street-fighters' like Kaw 2-stroke Triples and KZ900 to V-Twin cruisers -- i realized, or at least assumed, that most 'handling issues' were more *rider error* than anything else. But on my first Track Day, I picked up a nail in my rr tire, and replaced it at the Track with a Q3. {016 still on front}
      I felt IMMEDIATELY much more confidence in the Q3! It never slipped (that I could tell) even once! But the 016 slipped on me several times! Not enough for a crash, thankfully, but enough to SEE the tire marks. The next week, I put a Q3 on the front! And am now on my 3rd set!

    • @ethownzbh
      @ethownzbh Před 9 lety +1

      luv2mx Contrarily, I actually found this to be the most comprehensive tire review I've yet to see. And the focus of the comparison was parallel to the focus of the tires themselves as they are mainly geared toward performance and sporty riding rather than things like longevity and value (though some do it better than others). In any case not everybody has the time and resources to cover that amount of comprehensiveness, nor will it always find it worth the effort.
      I'm not saying you're wrong or being unreasonable to request full wear review but I
      I'm just trying to put into perspective the connotations of that amount of comprehensiveness in this case.

      600 miles?! Unless youre doing constant burnouts the tyre should last alot longer than that. Maybe youre running too low pressures. Or are those track miles? The BT-016 isn't an extreme Performance tyre, my friend has them on his CB1000R which similar power and torque like your MTS and he has 5k miles on them.
      For the MTS i'd recommend you a sport-touring tyre, like a Pirelli Angel GT, great grip and lasts for 7-10k miles, im using them during Fall-Spring in Switzerland when it's cold and wet on my ZX6R 636.
