Doug please bring back 4x4TV for you tube. I know it's a lot of work but we will watch. Thank you.
Why haven't you guys done a test on the Honda Rubicon 500? Preferably the DCT version since it got remapping done to the transmission for 2017!
On my P-500 I put a 1/2" x 1" foam strip around the outside of the plastic side intake housing, tuck it under the top lid, bottom hangs free but stays snug against the plastic. Acts sort of like a pre-filter, lets lot's of air through & causes no air restriction. But the main advantage is quiets it down some, softens the intake noise. Just have to remember to avoid it when washing the machine with the hose, I usually forget and have to wait for it to air dry. But in dry Arizona that's not a long wait.
How about a video on cleaning and oiling one of these filters? I'm about convinced that I need to get one for each of my ATVs but I'd like a real view into the maintenance of the filter.
That would be a good video. We'll work on it. In a nutshell; Wash in soapy water. Rinse good. Let dry. Spray K&N oil on evenly and light and then let it sit with newspaper inside and out for overnight. Next day check to see if the oil is even or too heavy. It's too heavy if your hand gets oily from touching it. Reinstalling adad just a dab of grease on the filter's seal. Check to make sure all the connections are tight.
Thanks for the update/reply. I'm going to take your word that the K&N is the filter to use and I'm getting one. I'll look forward to using the instruction you provided and will certainly look forward to the maintenance video.
I'm putting a slightly more detailed note on servicing the filter on FaceBook/ATV Television.
So how is the pioneer performing with the k&n? Any noticeable increase in power?
Not sure there's enough performance gain to feel a real power increase but I do feel that it's a bit more responsive.
I have a timberwolf 250 and just ordered a air filter is there supposed to be like a plastic thing in it I think it's called a filter cage to make the air filter snap in the air box?????????????????????????????
I am not familiar with the Timberwolf. K&N has a tech department. Call or email them.
I have P500 and thinking about getting KN. Have you thought about using pre filter/ precharger ??
Some just don't come with a pre-filter. I use them when they have them...
Well , I'm working on getting close match KN prechargers. Ordered to try two models: RF-1001DK and KA-7408DK.
Will post you if you are interested if they fit well.
Also not sure if you are interested, but I working with few guys on shock upgrade for P500, so far four volunteers :), will test and present it . I hope we will simplify it . So cushy ride will be on P500 also not only Polaris :) and long and reliable trip on it. Saw your video on Polaris vs P500, so shocks should be no problem anymore.
Very interested in what you find. Either post or better yet, email me at DougMeyer@ATVTV.Com
It works, email sent with pics.
Try emailing me again please I never got it.
Stock filter on my kind quad is garbage. Now have a uni and I love it (:
UNI's are good filters too!
+ATVTV I luv uni foam filters🖒🖒
I have a Kingquad 750 with about 4,500 miles backfires when I go down a hill or let off the throttle. My local atv shop says the motor is going down. I know that's not so. What can be the cause for this? If you can please respond it been driving me nuts. God bless
It sounds to me like it's running lean. Sometimes the intake to the filter can have the slightest of leak to cause a lean condition. Other than that I'm no expert, maybe the fuel injection is screwing up. That engine can easily go twice that many miles before there are major issues!
Go to nyrocatv.com. these guys no suzuki inside out. you might be able to contact them personally or email as well.
GREAT advice. I should have thought about that!
+Devlins10 thanks for the advice I'm just glad to hear it ain't the engine
+Devlins10 know*
Wow call it a 500 and it has a 475cc engine in it. I know most manufacturers if they come close they like going with even numbers. I know, I have a Polaris ETX that doesn't display the cc size on the ATV. I get it, I even have a Arctic Cat/Kymco 250 4x2 that will still go where my big 4x4 ones go...well almost.
About the K&N. I get negativity from the dealers both automotive and off road that the oil in them is going to foul up the MAF sensor and mess up your combustion chamber or they will come apart and wreck your engine. Of course they are selling their own OEM filters too.
I hear that but as I said I use them in my 4x4s, trucks, and my modified Porsche 911 and a 240hp turbocharged MazdaSpeed MX5 and have never had an issue. Just don't over oil them!
ATVTV I have one in my CJ7 Jeep with Howell Fuel Injection. I had it serviced once because I did not have time and they threw it away because it looked dirty. I got it back though. I had one on my 99 Silverado and never had MAF issues. I think it is because they know they wont sell an expensive at list price dry air filter they more than double their money on. I know, I worked at a dealership years ago.
