    Honestly as someone who has experienced ostracism because I am gay. All it does is push someone further from your side. It just validates the fact that you don't actually care about them as a human person.

    • @dgbx6
      @dgbx6 Před 5 lety +14

      That's the point. These people have to be right, because of their arrogance and egotism. Hurting you, shunning you, removing you from community is part of the process. I hope you can be strong.

    Should we do the same to a couple who have been married before to other people, become divorced and then married each other? Are they not just as much adulterers and be treated similarly according to the verses focused on (romans 6)

    • @candace6893
      @candace6893 Před 4 lety +1

      well it depends. in the bible Paul said not to divorce if the other person is still willing to live with you. God doesn’t want us to divorce. but Paul said if they do then you can remain single or eventually reconcile with them. The bible also say widows can remarry so it depends if their past spouse died i guess

      @@candace6893 most remarriages in the USA are not those situations. Most are people “grow apart” or aren’t happy so they get a divorce to eventually get remarried. If you take a conservative view on homosexuality, then it makes sense even more to take a conservative view on adultery, since it most likely affects you more and is far more prevalent.

    Because we are all sinners, it would be hypocritical to ostracize a sinner for committing a sin, even if it is one of which you are personally not guilty. I would not cut ties with anyone for their lifestyle. That said, you shouldn't pretend an act you believe to be sinful is right. You can still be friends with somebody without pretending to approve of one mistake you perceive.

      Oscar Benigsen the problem with this is that everything revolves around the Christian, not the one suffering the sin. To just assume we know everything and don’t give any meaning to anyone’s feelings, and just push them away, John Piper says it works, I say it doesn’t . I have a few friends who have been “holy ostracized” and it’s not very holy. One almost committed suicide over it. She fell in love with an unbeliever and her “Christian “ parents kicked her out. That’s EVIL!

    • @evanc3160
      @evanc3160 Před 5 lety +3

      Oscar Benigsen oh you are very wrong. First off, you clearly show lack of importance to the feelings of the children, but sympathize with the parents. I refused to believe this because Jesus talks more about eating with the sinners than this one quote from scripture. Some children are hostile towards their parents, yes. But many aren’t. If your beliefs cause you to disown your own children, then I think it’s time to ditch those beliefs.

    • @evanc3160
      @evanc3160 Před 5 lety +5

      Oscar Benigsen No, no, no. You’re first assuming that we’re referring to children( younger than 18). Not only that, but you’re showing lack of importance to a childs emotions. If a parent is beating their child and abusing their child, just because the parent thinks they know best or that they pay the bills, does that mean they shouldn’t take their child’s feelings into consideration? I struggle with homosexuality, and I try not to be like the typical gay person and take automatic offense to everything, but I find this offensive to simply say children are “stupid”. Just to let you know, the suicidal feelings and thoughts are very much real, and the fear of “holy ostracism” only makes it worse. My dad was raised strict Christian. When I finally told him, he was much more accepting than I thought. However, I don’t expect him to condone homosexuality under his roof. But I do expect him to maintain a father son relationship with me and not cut ties. Because of the fear of rejection by my dads strict Christian side of the family, I am single, depressed, I have no love life, no quality of life. I’d be much happier if I could be free to believe what I believe without fear of being disowned. That’s all “holy ostracism” is. It’s a way of sugarcoating disowning someone. It’s basically saying “my beliefs are more important than yours so I’ll just disown you”. Parents have the right to let their children go, doesn’t mean that makes them a good parent. Before you ask, Yes, I am a Christian. I have fought homosexuality my whole 19 years on this world. I have tried to “pray the gay away”, nothing has happened. Would a merciful God send me to hell? Even though I fought 19 heard for Him? Fought 19 years to make my family happy? No! Because I have accepted Christ as my savior. The Bible said that whoever confesses with mouth that Jesus is Lord and believes God raised him from the dead will be saved! God knew we couldn’t keep the whole law, for by the law shall NO flesh be justified, for with the law comes knowledge of sin. We aren’t supposed to sin, so I try not to. I repent of the sins I know I can keep a promise not to do again. But my repentance doesn’t get me into heaven, my faith does! I am strong! because I guarantee you 95% of “Christians” that ostracize their children, or preach against homosexuality, most are straight, and don’t have this problem, yet they hold us to such a high standard and think that if we live the lord, we will remain lonely our whole lives. But loneliness destroys you.

    We want to be saved like you wanted to, we want to praise, worship him just like you did, we want to serve him as you do.
    We can't change what/who we are if we could choose we won't probably choose who we are right now because being gay is not easy in life. All we can feel is loneliness, rejection, suicidal, wanting to give up but barely keeping the beat, wishing not being born at all. All we want is love and to be loved as a human being we all do. If you hate a gay person, believe me, they don't want to be around either in fact they kinda wish they didn't exist or not being born, before you judge tell me this, do you have the choice to not being born? Ask your parents and they won't be able to give you the answer either. Now imagine you're a Christian and you had a gay child, all this is what they've been through every single day, your child cries inside every day when left alone, day by day he/she becomes weaker before you know your child shut him/herself away from you, away from the world,they didn't came out because they know they will lose you, why? Because you're a Christian.
    But you're not gay so you won't know what it felt like to be gay. So don't you dare judge them because you don't know what they've been through every second. Instead, help them.
    The bible says
    "For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved". This doesn't exclude a gay person.
    Here the main or keywords are heart, mouth, profess, faith, SAVED.
    I also believe, have faith in him, have a heart, mouth, I can profess, also know I can be SAVED.

If he has turned to Christ, admitted he’s a sinner, and believes that Christ died for his sins and rose from the dead, he has been saved. Now does that mean he should live his life like that? According to God, no. But can someone live in sin and still be saved? I believe yes. Because there are so many sins in the Bible that most of us, even most believers, sin daily. Evan C I found a better word to exchange "belief": "My God is more important than you; even you are my own child..."
      That reminds me of the story of a lunatic named Abraham who was about to kill his own son, Isaac, because God said so. Strange, I thought God is love....
      Unfortunately, Abraham didn't. God stopped him. Do you get the meaning of the story? I have wrestled to understand that story of why God do such thing to Abraham or even to Job despite they did nothing wrong. And do you know the answer? The answer is at the very last of the story: God came back to restore everything to its place. These types of stories DO NOT end like we think it will be. I struggled with these type of dilemma because I stopped at the middle of the story and started asking "Why, God?" "Why suffering?"
      Then, God reminded me of the ending of the story. It's all about our realtionship with God, and He has planned good things for us, so the argument "God is evil by letting this and that to happen", such argument doesn't fit with the Bible.
      You may omit my comment and I won't try to argue further, but please read the Bible, God's own Words for more Wisdom.

Once you accept in your heart that Jesus actually walked this earth and died on the cross for our sins and realize that you have been living in sin and apologize (through prayer) you will be forgiven and you will literally be given a new heart with new desires. It’s like you’re in a court room and you have committed a serious crime and the judge gives you the death sentence and you say “ I don’t believe in lethal injection so I’m fine “ your opinion really doesn’t change reality. I see a few problems with this approach:
    First it's not our problem when other people go down immoral or destructive paths. It's their problem. If somebody realizes what he's doing is bad and wants to get out, we should be the first to help. But they should be the ones taking initiative.
    You're massively underestimating what delusion does to people. Especially with sexual urges, this can push a person far beyond recognizing what is right and wrong. Especially considering same sex attraction there is also a huge propaganda in society to further blind these people. To ostracize someone for behaviour he didn't even recognizes is unhelpful.
    This approach will drive many people to bad places. There are tons of communities or ideologies that seem very attractive if you are on the path of sexual immorality. If we shut these people out, we will directly led them there, and make their situation even worse.
    So, patience is a virtue. Just wait until they themselves realize that this isn't the path they should pursue. If you always kindly and patiently waited, you will now be there to help. This is what true friendship does.

We need to love everyone regardless of their sins because we are all sinners, no sin is greater than another. We are all in the same boat and its up to us to be caring and understanding with our brothers and sisters, god made us all in his image, that includes the homosexuals, we need to treat them how we want to be treated and maybe the odds of them coming to Christ will come up. How are you going to bring someone closer to god shunning them for how they feel? The hatred from organized religion is what drives people away from god. I used to be a Christian and i just couldn’t sit in church every Sunday and listen to a sinner tell me his interpretation of what god wants. I have sense split into my own path and im letting god himself lead me. I have found a church with a preacher that is vary anti religion and extremely spiritual, i can feel god talking through his mouth and its incredible, but i dont go every Sunday. Sometimes i wake up and god tells me i need to go today because he’s speaking something you need to hear today, and i go and that’s exactly what happens every Time i go. I think there's a few factors to consider when reading about Jesus being with sinners and Paul clearly saying to avoid "company" with them. One factor is that Jesus was "hanging out" with the lost who were supposed to be his.
      It's like going to prison to seek out your criminal children and seek to know them when most people would encourage not to be associated so much with criminals..... I know, poor analogy, but I'm trying. Anyway, God bless you and search the scriptures.

    I don't think this man knows what being a Christian is. The Bible says that all sins are equal in the eyes of the Lord. So that one time you ate more than you needed, you committed a sin. You engaged in gluttony and greed, so unfortunately according to your method, you should be cut off from the church. Your Christian friends can no longer associate with you because clearly you believe that God is measuring the 'magnitude" of the offense of you sin. Sorry dude. I guess Christians only seek "justice" now and forget about the love and mercy part.
    Matthew 7:1-5
    1 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. 3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
    What you should do is continue to love them, as God wants. Then being able to genuinely feel your love for them may give them the clear head they need to make things right with God. You deciding that they need to be exiled will make them debate whether they want to continue their walk with God. Why would anyone want to be a part of the Christian community when the members places themselves above other individuals based off of which sins they have deemed to be just too sinful. Literally just like "oh yah I sin, but my sin is not nearly as bad as your sin. Since your sin is worse, that means that I'm better than you and should continue to live my sinful human life, free of judgment from others. Oh and also you deserve to be exiled by all the members of the church, but I don't because I'd never commit THAT sin."
    So many LGBTQ people that have grown up in church leave their faith because of treatment like this. How about you shine your light for Jesus and show them nothing but love and kindness, the way you were commanded to do. Maybe that will make them feel like God still loves them instead of hates them. Thinking that God hates them is the reason they run away from Him and its all because of people who claim to be Christians; not because of God. Jesus Christ would never encourage His followers to "ostracize" ANYONE, so please don't walk around telling people this is right while simultaneously claiming to live a life for Christ. It's misleading to those who are unsaved and its literally embarrassing to have people thinking that this is what Christians are commanded to do.

    1. Why are you still following the rules of a book written by men centuries ago?
    2. As said in the bible, if anything exists, it is God's will. If God had a "way", he would not have created love between two people from the same gender. The Bible states clearly that everything we do is made possible by the power of God, who created us. Plus, if God made us from his image, wouldn't he be bisexual too? If God is beyond our comprehension but also only love for every human, wouldn't he be both heterosexual, homosexual, transgender and all?
    3. God is love? Then why would you spread His words saying some people can't love each other? Religions are based on the accomplishment of happiness in one life to move to the afterlife. Why would you, based on the precepts of a hierarchy, spread hate in our world...?

    This is all gender based, male / female. What do you do with people born both sexes, intersex (AIS)? They were created by God, yet at birth, with your concept of the Bible, sin for the rest of their lives, no matter what they do. We know God does not create sin. So I think we as Christians who commit a lot of these sins DAILY need to stop being hypocrites and pointing out certain sins, but failing to address the many others. Many don’t address gluttony because they love food too much. Many don’t address laziness because we all like to sleep in, or watch tv, but between a glutton and a homosexual, there’s no difference.

    Where is Jesus in this man's reply???
    When the Bible becomes "grounds" to persecute people that Jesus would reach out to, that church is false and bereft of any validity whatsoever.
    To continue persecuting gay people, one knows that this is a church of the middle-aged and old: the church of the fearful!
    Young people refuse to "darken the door" of present-day churches once they leave the family nest.
    The "gospel of fear" does not apply to present-day young people because they are intelligent and refuse to be fearful about God unlike their parents!
