- Yuri van Gelder (born 20 April 1983) is a Dutch gymnast, whose best discipline is the rings. His nickname is "Lord of the Rings".
Eleftherios Petrounias (Greek: Ελευθέριος Πετρούνιας; born 30 November 1990) is a Greek artistic gymnast. He is the 2016 Olympic champion, the 2018, 2017 and 2015 World champion, and a five-time (2011/2015-18) European medalist on the still rings (four gold and one bronze).

Van Gelder maintains a false grip during his strength skills. Petrounias opens his hands to display no false grip.
U do realise Petrounias also has false grip. Just because he opens his fingers up dosent mean no false grip lol. Anybody can open their fingers when using false grip because there fingers are not doing the work, it's their wrist which is why it's called a false grip
the fact that he can open his hands literally means he's maintaining a false grip. I also open my hands on the rings simply because I don't need my fingers in a lot of moves. it's virtually impossible to de a muscle up without a false grip unless you change your grip in to middle of the move, let a alone a maltese plank.

I'm Greek...but i have to say that Yuri Van Gelder IS UNPRECEDENTED. I remember Yuri Van Gelder's EXCEPTIONAL performances. 2:38-2:40 this move is one of the most difficult to terminate completely still and perfect. Yuri Van Gelder has done this move even at faster speed than this ! ! !

Don't think so, the best I saw was Matteo Spinazzola but he couldnt hold the final victorian position after the press

@@markiyanhapyak349 I saw Majeli trial but he didnt hold the vic position as well, if you mean video by Ryan Cummings, it is reversed.
I saw Ziolus doing victorian cross only once, and it was just victorian without any press or pull up.
And if I remember correctly Pietro Bruno was doing front lever pull ups to victorian, but I mean the "press" with straight arms.

Who is the better?
Petrounias is better. Notice how he always opens his palms on the strength holds. Can't deduct anything from that form then. Also his dismounts are of a higher value. Van Gelder doesn't really do hard dismounts anymore. Last one I saw was just double layout. Petrounias does double double and almost all other world athleates do double doubles too.
@@Raving4ever He doesent hold the skills too long and form isnt as good as Yuri Van Gelder. Yuri Van Gelder also does harder strength elements but Petrounias does have better dismounts and swings I'll give him that.
