In this video I'll share a hack on how to take advantage of the Serato DJ Auto Import folder WHILST keeping your personalised folders. This will work for anyone using Serato DJ or Serato Scratch Live on any Mac running any OS WITHOUT the need to download 3rd party apps.
Please share this hack with all your Serato DJ Pro user friends but tell them not to make a video exactly like this and claim that they were the first to figure this out, because I've searched everywhere from the Serato Boards to Reddit and everywhere else in between, and couldn't find anyone who has done this.
If you do come across anyone who has used this for specific use on Serato DJ prior to the upload of this video, please link me to them so that we can become friends
Shout out to the Spindle Crew for the video clips used in the intro

absolutely life changing bro. thank you for sharing 🙏
Oh snap! The champ approves 🔥🔥🔥. Hopefully it'll free up some of your time to keep those fire routines coming! We need more pls ✌🏽👍🏽✌🏽
100 % life changing and I thank you DJ Shameless 🙏
This video is a godsend. I’ve been trying to wrap my head around teeing up the DJs in my crew with their music for events in a more intuitive manner using the Auto Import folder. Other videos I'd seen on the subject laid a foundation of how to leverage that feature, but my solution was still lacking a certain something. The info here brings me one step closer. Incredibly grateful to you for sharing your knowledge. 🙏🙏🙏
Would be keen to hear what problem you're trying to solve. This is just a 'hack' that i stumbled across and thought to share.
Woah, great video mate!
GENARAL!! You just saved me HOURS AND HOURS OF IMPORTING!! Respect mi bredda!!
Great stuff. Thanks for checking out the vid and the comment!
You the real MVP homie 🙏🏾
Thank you for this! Super cool video! A+++
This is a real game changer. It makes the auto import feature work for us. Thanks!!!
It's a real time saver!
Wow! Thank you so much! I’m going to try this!!!
Awesome stuff. Thanks for watching 🙏🏽
ITS REALLY WORKED LOL THANK YOU DUDE
thanks a lot!!! so nice reverb
Great tip! Thank you
Hope it works for you 👍🏽
wow this is an amazing tip !!!!
Very cool! Thanks ill try it
Great stuff... let me know if it works for you.
now why didn't i thought of that lol thanks for the tip!
I know right! I tested it out with Scratch Live on my 2008 Macbook and it worked perfectly. This could've saved us so much time over the years.
Very nice method man. I didn't try this and I'm assuming it's the same windows so I'll give it a shot but shame it doesn't work with sub crates. Does it work with smart crates?
Great tip, thank you! This is a great solution :-D
As a side note, please consider reducing the number of "please subscribe" animations in the videos. I feel like one at the beginning, and then a mention to subscribe at the end is more professional. They get distracting and annoying otherwise. I'm typically associate seeing that many subscribe calls-to-action per minute with more low quality click-bait channels.
Otherwise, keep up with the great content!
You are most welcome and your feedback is HIGHLY appreciated. I've been trying different options (mostly to hide my on camera awkwardness) but had no feedback until now. THANK YOU and noted. All this is very new so all feedback on how to improve is appreciated 🙏🏽
If I edit or delete a track in Serato will it be deleted from the main crate since it’s only reading the alias folder?
best channel
How come when I do this serato creates a new crate? I don’t want doubles of everything
you changed my life bro :D thnx
🤣. Thanks for your comment. Much appreciated 🙏🏽
Same 😂👌
The alias folder doesn't update with deleted tracks; just when adding tracks. Am I right?
my issue is now when Serato loads it scans everything and says that over half my library was added that minute when I open of Serato....
Life Saver!! Makes organizing so easy now. Especially with smart crates!
Thanks for watching and good luck with your library organization!
U BEST!!!
It's an ok feature...only thing I have way too many subcrates so it's not going to work for me. Serato-itch-sync was the best until they f'd with it...I don't know why serato needs to make this so complicated 😢😢. But thank for showing this process
I agree... I also have sub crates, and this unfortunately doesn't work. The only alternative is to set smart crates as sub crates maybe?
Thanks!
No problem. Thanks for watching 🙏🏽
does this work with windows
😍Excellent tutorial sir, nice 👌 how about to windows system, how to made it like step procedure in mac?
I tried to find alias folders for windows, but couldn't find it. I think there's programs you can buy to do this for you in windows
thank you sir shameless
Glad to help. Definitely a time saver thats been a problem for a long while.
Thanks
When you say it doesn't work for Subcrates... did you mean it only doesn't work with subcrates that's you've created in serato itself? because all my subcrates are folders in my music the same as my main folders... can't i just create alias folders of those folders too?
Ah i get you what you mean! If you have a subcrate in SDJ linked to a seperate folder on your hard drive, the alias method should work. What i had meant, is that if you have a subcrate and trying to link a subfolder (a folder within a folder), that won't work. The main crate will pull the folder and subfolder into it.
But your way should definitely work!! Another way is to use Smart Crates as subcrates and let Serato handle the splitting based on whatever parameters you set
What should i do if i use subfolders since they cant be imported? My config is suuuuper organized and would rather import it then re-do it in serato again.
EX: Performance Crate> Hip Hop> Todays Hip Hop> High Energy Hip Hop.
That is how my folders are setup and I wouldnt want to re-do it.
I have tried it with sub folders but it doesn't import the sub folders as different crates.
It imports all the tracks from the sub folders into the main crate.
If your way works for you, then that is the 100% correct way. ✌🏽
Great video! 5:45 How did you analyze the single track like that without dragging it to the analyze files box? Every time I try that it wants to analyze my entire library.
Hi there... first off thanks for checking out the vid. And secondly to answer your question, once a track is analyzed by SDJ, it shouldn't need to be analyzed again and SDJ knows which have been done. I've always just pressed the analyze button (without selecting or dragging) and SDJ only analyzes the new tracks.
Do you perhaps have your library on an external drive?
Here's a hot tip from the Serato website. Try it and let me know if it worked for you.
"TIP: If the software starts analyzing files which you know have already been analyzed, stop the process by clicking the Analyze Files button. Next, click the Rescan ID3 Tags button found within the Files panel and allow it to finish. This will ensure that only non-analyzed files get processed. You can now start the analyzing process again."
@@DJShamelessSA Thanks for replying & yes my library is on an external HD. I get what you're saying for whatever reason I have to drag the new track in every time.
@@DJShamelessSA OK Great! I'll try that & see what happens!
Let me know if it works or not. I'm sure there's a quick fix for it.
So when you drag the alias folder into the auto update folder does that create the crate in serato or do you already need that crate created in serato? I am trying to figure this out on PC using folder shortcuts.
All my crates in sdj were already made according to each folder in my music folder, before i figured out the alias folder option, so i would think that the initial crate set up would need to be done in sdj first.
@@DJShamelessSA yeah I can't seem to make it work. I made a folder shortcuts like you do with the alias but nothing happens with the crate.
Not sure if the properties of a shortcut on a pc is the same as an alias folder on mac.
@@DJShamelessSA I saw an article saying it was but it doesn't seem to be. Unless I'm doing something wrong.
@@DJShamelessSAI have a crate for every folder on my music hard drive. Now with this alias method it creates a duplicate of every folder so doubles the library. I’m gonna delete the original crates i made and will keep all alias folders. I just hope when I cmd shift delete a track it deletes it from the original file path
I love this hack. I've been using Alchimie Zinc since 2014 and they never updated the app. You can't even download the app anymore. The question I have for you. If I'm in a situation and my laptop crash. Can I still plug my hard drive into someone else's laptop would Serato still recognize my crates using your method?
Thanks for checking out the video and to answer your question, yes it should work. I think you need to have your "_Serato_" folder on your external hd or ssd with your alias folders in the Auto Import folder all stored there, and all should be good to go on any laptop your external is plugged into. The "_Serato_" folder on your external is key for this to work.
@@DJShamelessSA ok, thanks and great work. #salute!
I have a 2012 laptop MacBook Pro 1tb 16 GB well that go on my computer
What does making the alias folder do? or for
kb.iu.edu/d/achy
When you download the music where will it go to
Not sure what you mean, but if you download music from the net, it'll go to whichever folder you set your downloads to.
If you keep your music in separate folders (like per genre), that's where they'll stay if you use this method
Question do I make an alias folder for all my crates that’s I have in serato in the auto import folder on my Mac (and also my ext HDD)
Awesome question. Thanks for reaching out. Basically if each of your Serato Crates is linked to a seperate folder on your hdd or external hdd, then yes. It's only a one time set up to link a folder to a crate using the alias folder in the auto import folder in the Serato folder, then every music folder that you update with new music, will auto update in Serato without you having to do anything.
Hope that helps, but please feel free to ask again if not. ✌🏽
@@DJShamelessSA thank you for answering, another question just so I understand fully if you wouldn't mind answering. So I have no music on my Mac all music is stored on my ext HDD, so with that being said the Serato folder on my Mac has the auto import folder, my ext does not. Do I make alias folder of my crates in the auto import folder on my Mac or do I copy the auto import folder to my ext and make the alias folders there. I been doing it the way you spoke of before in the video of downloading, adding to a sort folder, then sorting tracks into respective folders on ext HDD, then going in to files in Serato and dragging and. dropping the folders on top of the crates
@@auduimer ahhh, i hear you now. The alias folders should be in your _Serato_ folder on your Macbook (where the installed program is). So if you have a crate in Serato named 'EDM' but your 'EDM' folder with the actual mp3's is on an ext HDD, make an alias folder on your external then MOVE THE ALIAS FOLDER to your Auto Import folder on your internal HD in your _Serato_ is.
If you're still unsure, DM me on IG @shamelessdjsa (it'll be quicker there)
bra!!! thanks a span ya!
Aweh!
Any solution for subcrates
Have you perhaps looked at Smart Crates? Not sure if it'll work with your current work flow, but may be an option.
I’m not seeing the point. You still have to put the tracks in the right folders. You don’t need to make an alias folder to auto import, just add your original folders to Auto Import.
Once you put a file or folder into Auto Import, SDJ moves it to another folder called Imported. You'd have to keep redropping your folders into the auto import folder every time you add new music to your library. Alias folders bypass having to do it twice (once to your folder and again into Serato)
@@DJShamelessSAshould I delete the original folder from the library cause auto import makes a new crate from the alias and doubles the library. I sssume if I keep the crate serato made from the auto import and delete the original crate I made than everything will work properly. There’s no reason for 2 crates of everything. However when I take my external hard drive and plug it into my MacBook Pro to dj I have a feeling all files are gonna be missing cause the original paths are on my Mac Studio. I need to fix all this
Is the a PC option for this?
I have tried looking around the web for a pc equivalent, but unfortunately haven't found one yet. I believe there are 3rd party apps that may be able to assist with this for pc users
@@DJShamelessSA someone said you can use folder shortcuts but I haven't tried it yet.
Let me know if it works if you try it
For once, the software is actually really useful
I dоwnloaded everything is okay
Does this still work in 2023? Lol
Mlk, se pá que o canal foi hackeado
Hacked i guess
