- Police video cameras captured the moments they were trying to contain the dogs who attacked Jacqueline Durand, who was pinned down and mauled on her first day dog sitting. Jacqueline lost her face and received more than 800 bites and still faces years of reconstructive surgeries. David Begnaud reports.

The lack of an apology or even a dime of pay tells the entire truth: those dog owners are guilty 100%. Bless this young lady; may she have a speedy recovery.
they're probably advised not to apologize since it's giving indicators of guilt.

At first I was like “I’m not going to immediately judge these owners” but once he said they didn’t even pay her for the stay nor offer any medical help and haven’t even spoken to her since the day of the stay.....those owners deserve jail time and to be put on a registry to keep them from owning a pet again.

I’m a dog attack survivor. My heart breaks for her. I will never be the same either. I work in home health care. So many owners are in denial about their dogs behavior
Dogs are rarely trained these days, just spoiled. They are animals so this doesn't translate well in the real world as they aren't taught to not jump on people, they aren't taught to respect people. Something so simple.
"he won't bite!!" I hear it all the time and it is a lie 90% of the time@@RootsOfEden911
Yes, I dog sit and have never had an outburst and recently a client got attacked by the dogs. A few days after my gig was done and she wanted to blame it on me. I found that ridiculous because I didn’t do anything unusual to make them aggressive. Have never had this issue before she wants to act like her Rottweiler is so innocent but they can be unpredictable dogs. It’s a good thing. It was nothing major like this case but people need to stop pretending their dog is a little angel from above. There are still animals and they’re still going to do what they’re going to do even if they know attacking somebody is wrong.
that is awful!!! I went to a house for a hospice visit recently ( I work in home health) and the owner has a huge young german shepherd in the yard so i call the house before getting out of car..they say "just walk normal and do not act afraid and he will not hurt you" I was like oh yeah right....see ya later and left. @@Kenny2k08

I been a vet tech for almost 15 years and the amount of people that put their pets before human safety is astonishing. Any signs of aggression should be taken seriously.
Woah! I can’t believe how much likes and replies I have under my comment. I’m also surprised and not surprised from the comments lol.
I train all new techs in my hospital and I only have 1 rule: 1. Human safety comes first then come the pets.
I’m not gonna risk my safety for your pets comfort… sorry.
For real. I work in a dog daycare and boarding facility so I've only ever been bitten on purpose once, and I definitely saw it coming.
A dog tried to escape it's kennel and without thinking I tried hooking my hands around his thighs to slow him down enough to get a lead on him. He was already acting pretty nervous that day so he got scared and whipped around and bit my hand once. I absolutely deserved it.
It's not like he could have gone anywhere, it was just in the facility, I should have let him go and then caught up with him to try to calm him down. He's a super sweet dog and we're still buddies, it's just important to pay attention. Very rarely will animals freak out like that without warning.
Keeping stern with your pet is enough.
Especially when there’s children in the home! Also, why on earth would they hire a stranger to come into their home to dog sit if they even had an inkling of suspicion their dogs could get aggressive around strangers?! So irresponsible. Smh
I just am awed by Jacqueline❤. But stunned that those 2 dogs were not 🔫 so they could get to her quicker❗❗😤 I love animals! But 37 minutes plus what she had already been thru is NOT ok!!
They said there wasn’t any aggression in the past at all.
It is appalling that the dog owners haven’t paid her nor spoken to her since this attack. I would be begging for forgiveness from her the rest of my life, immediately put the dogs down and offer any financial and emotional support I could. What’s really remarkable is the boyfriend stayed by her side and didn’t ditch her. You hear about that sort of thing a lot. You are both gems in this world. God bless in your healing journey.
The insurance is telling them not to say anything.
I’m sure lawyers etc have told them not to reach out or say anything
Oh they'll speak in court

Some dog owners have a weird sort of "white wolf" mentality towards their pet dogs that they know are problematic. They think their dogs are special and that makes them feel more connected with their dog instead of recognizing that the dog is dangerous. It's not out of the realm of possibility that the owners of the two dogs blame the victim in this case, since she entered their home and the dogs attacked, and now the owners are forced to put the dogs to sleep and they're being sued. Many people would acknowledge their negligence and do everything they could to help... but some people put up their defenses and choose to see themselves as the victims.
The couple should at least be forced to pay MORE than that young woman is owed. It also should be illegal to put an animal down that is not gravely ill/injured.
"Don't worry, they're friendly they won't bite" is only ever said by people with poorly trained dogs

"She has not even been paid for the service she went there for." Unbelievable, not only did the owner of those monster dogs not apologize to her but he did not even fully pay her for her dog sitting services. And I bet he put all of his assets in his mother's name.

@Molotov Milkshake you're right- it went from a dog sitting service to a law suit!
I am in complete shock that the owners didn't even bother to apologize or pay her in full. Jesus Christ what is WRONG with those people?
While the owners actions may seem inconsiderate, I think they are probably avoiding all contact out of legal reasons. For all we know, the owners may have contacted a lawyer in preparation for any law suits or criminal charges that may come of this.
If I were in their shoes, I’d keep my mouth shut and not say anything even and apology. Because anything they say or do could affect them in the courtroom.
@@alexandertheresurrection2810 I agree that it is wise to not speak with her directly. But since we know there will be a lawsuit. It would actually work in their favor to extend, either through their attorney (or whatever impersonal payment method they used before (Zelle or cash app or whatever)) to at least pay her. It kind of helps mitigate the idea that they are careless and negligent if they volunteer the money that they at least owed her for the day. Not anything beyond that just what she was to be paid. This is a gruesome attack and although you don’t want to admit “guilt” you definitely want your defense attorney to get up and say; “they feel terrible about this.” Maybe even draw up and offer a settlement instead of making her go through this whole legal process. Sure it’s going to cost a lot over time but I mean it’s their fault. So they should be ready to humbly negotiate, don’t ya think?
@@liberatedlife9676 I agree. Plus assuming if these owners even have home owners insurance (good luck finding any insurance company that accept you with a pitbull) they are probably shitting bricks right now at just how much this situation is gonna cost them.

37 minutes leaving the victim waiting is way too long!
No apology after what she’s been through and didn’t even pay her. What a sorry excuse for a couple. They absolutely need to be held accountable in every way possible for this. Their lack of care shows they deserve no mercy in being charged and ordered to pay her for the lifetime care she will need. She’s such a beautiful soul and never deserved this. I pray for her recovery.
If my dog tore someone’s face off, I’d be CRYING MY EYES OUT while being interviewed by police.
Exactly!! It's disgusting they couldn't be bothered to extend any kind of apology. Even if they felt it was a futile gesture. Then again, these are the same people who knew their dogs were capable of being aggressive. Pieces of sht.
If my dog did something like this I’d shoot it myself, and do everything in my power to help this girl out for the rest of her life. Even better, I would never own a breed of dog that’s widely known for snapping without warning and being dangerous to people. Some dog owners out there are absolute sociopaths who put their animals above human lives I’m sad to say.
If something like this happened in Brazil, the owners of the dogs would be lynched by the people, they would need to flee the country.
its so insane to think they havent paid her for the dog sitting... they should be paying for every surgery she gets. i also dont believe they didnt know their dogs are dangerous to strangers, the sign on the door and just how vicious this attack was shows that the dogs werent fighting because they were scared but just wanted blood.

They have two aggressive dog breeds. (And before anyone attacks me, most countries list them as such. This is especially true when you look at the public duty to rescue tort concept that in the US has a specific exceptions in regard to the rescuer not being required to endanger themselves. All that needs to be done, by those with a public duty are a reasonable effort, which pretty much never includes a required deliberate endangerment of themselves.
@@johncallof8839 , logically, this makes sense. Self preservation is not a priority, it is a fundamental right. You can't force someone, just because they've taken up the job, to put themselves at risk beyond what they judge as an immediate danger to their own life. This is at least within the civilian sphere. Military doctrine becomes more complex, since a soldiers job is more directly related to endangerment. Though, there are still rules that govern that as well.
Having served as a paramedic for many years, I firmly believe that preemptive measures, such as euthanizing highly aggressive dogs, are essential to prevent life-threatening attacks. Responding to numerous dog-related calls, including incidents where adults and children lost their lives, underscores the urgency of this stance. I have been a professional pet sitter for 32 years and I can't begin to tell you the impact Jacqueline's story has had throughout the pet sitting world. A lot of us are re-evaluating how we conduct meet and greets, how we enter homes and many of us are thinking back at times that we could have been in the same kind of trouble but we were just luckier. Although pet sitting is typically not considered to be a high risk job what happened to Jacqueline shows that a pet sitter should always be on guard and that a situation can change in a flash. So please, whether you're a professional sitter or taking care of a neighbor's dog across the street, always be careful. For those of you who hire professional sitters to care for whatever pets you may have please appreciate them because they work hard for you.
Agreed. I was a dog sitter for many years and felt pretty confident in my knowledge of dog behavior (many young pet sitters truly dont know enough about dog behavior to be pet sitting) but there only 1 dog that I actually got scared of. I did not like his vibes from the beginning. He was a GSD mix. But he was "okay" and he was toy motivated so we would go out and play fetch in the yard. Then he started getting very possessive of his crate. He would willingly go back into his crate but I would go to close it and he lunged and tried to attack me as I was closing the door. Obviously shook me up and I let the owner know and we had another meet and greet again with the owner present and when I went to open the back door to show our routine, he nipped at my hand when I reached for the door. I was smart enough to know at that point, nope, I was not risking myself for a measly $15 or w/e it was. But I think of how many times I went there alone prior, and god forbid something had happened.... I guess i was just lucky.
@Marie Bussinger: What in the world kind or type of dog does not chase rabbits, or at least want to? I’ve had many dogs and growing up in the country, I have yet to meet one dog that would not gladly chase rabbits or squirrels at the drop of a hat! That is in their nature. The point is, if you don’t want them to take off chasing other animals, either train them well, keep them on a leash or inside a fence.
@@salyluz6535 I've owned plenty of dogs that don't chase rabbits. I've also seen plenty of dogs owned by other people that don't chase rabbits. What a heartbreaking story. Prayers for a speedy and full recovery. ❤
Girl, you look so much better, comparing to your interview about a year ago! Wishing you a full recovery and easy restoration process. You’re unbelievably strong! ❤🫂🌹
Such bravery! Praying for your continued recovery ❤️🩹
I cannot believe this! How did the police just not shoot the dogs to get to the injured person??? Did I hear it right that it took them 30 minutes to get to her BECAUSE OF THE DOGS??
What kind of world we are living in?! This is SHOCKING!!
Thank God someone else said it, I can't believe the reporter didn't talk about that more! Like allowing the dogs eat her when they had gunssss. Am livid
Right? We're they put down? This is really scary!
That's what I thought
Finally! The comment I was looking for!!!! 37 minutes they waited...for some dogs?!!!!!! Shooooooot them and save her!!!. WTF! Scared of some dogs?! Come on cops. You fear for your lives and shoot people....so what's the problem when it's a dog who has literally almost killed someone?!!!!!!
Exactly what I said. Tippy toe around these killer dogs while she lay in there dying. Just stupid
