    Good tip when you suggest taping up the whole box and sealing off all seams. I ordered a pound cake from a Catering company who specializes in pound cakes. The box was not sealed up nor was the cake. It sat on the front porch about an hour after the post office dropped it off. Had ants on the box as well as some inside the box. Nobody wants to order a cake for $50 and have it arrive with Ants. The cake was put inside a plastic bag that also was not sealed..not a ziplock,,only tied off at one end with gift wrapping ribbon which was not enough. Ants got inside. YUK

      Hi! I don’t have an after photo included in the episode, but it showed up just fine- the plastic wrap was pretty snug on the cake but with the design it didn’t matter. I’ve sent many cakes this way with very little trouble. One thing I’ve noticed during COVID is the mail is taking much longer so I would be cautious sending cakes in the summers - cookies are a much safer bet. ❤️

      Hi Sarah. I always use the USPS flat rate large box ($20) when shipping an 8 inch 3 layer cake. One caveat I have been letting people know is that with COVID, shipping is taking longer. • @ChristinaCakesIt
      @ChristinaCakesIt  Před 4 lety +2

      Hi! I would still use the insulated bags with the ice packs, but I have had a lot of issues with delayed shipping due to Covid. Most of my packages are taking 5-6 days to get to their destination, so I’m afraid the frosting would still melt given the extended shipping times. I’m recommending people send cake pops/cake bites during this time (I’ve sent lots of batches across county during Covid). They stay fresh and don’t melt because of the high melting point of candy melts. Hope that helps!

      They would work if you plan to do quite a bit of shipping. One thing that is really important is that USPS is delayed on their flat rate boxes due to COVID which has caused a problem with keeping cakes cold. I sent baked goods to Colorado (from LA) and it took 8 days! I send baked goods to Virginia and it only took 2, so it's unpredictable. I do want to mention that USPS flat rate boxes are taking longer than two days during COVID, which messes with the cake/cupcakes staying frozen. Hi! I used a bag that came with my grocery delivery. The size is 18 X 18. You can also purchase thermal bags on amazon, size 18 X22 that you can cut down, or insulated box liners size 12X12X5. One thing that is an issue right now is that USPS flat rate boxes are taking longer to deliver due to COVID which creates a problem keeping the cake cold longer than two days. Im recommending people don't ship cakes during summer COVID. Cake pops are a safe bet! I have sent a lot this summer with no problem arriving a week later (not melted, still fresh). Hope that helps!

    I m sending a blueberry loaf made simply by blueberry and buckwheat and almond flour ... and it takes only one day in delivery. Should I freeze the loaf? Please respond thank you.

      Hi! I would freeze it before sending so it thaws in the way, but you probably don’t need to add the frozen cold packs since it’s overnight and wintertime ❤️

      Christina Cakes It thank you for your response. Wouldn’t freezing spoil the taste?

      You’re welcome 😊 Not at all, you can freeze cakes for you to a month, it actually seals in the freshness. I wouldn’t say you HAVE to do it for your loaf, but you could as an extra measure.

      @@ChristinaCakesIt I m making a loaf and I top it with almond flakes and frozen berries (cooked in over for about 40 minutes)... so the berries are going to cook but still have some nice juicy vibe to them. I can still freeze and send over mail? it takes 1.5 days only. what do you suggest for a loaf that have some fruits on top?

    Thanks for sharing what you did! I plan to try this to send my dad a peanut butter bundt cake for his birthday. I'm wondering what you recommend as instructions for the recipient. I'm guessing the cake arrives at least cold - do you recommend they immediately remove the plastic wrap to reduce smudging of the cake topping?

    • @ChristinaCakesIt
      @ChristinaCakesIt  Před 4 lety +2

      I’m glad you found the tutorial helpful! My recommendation would be to put the cake in the fridge if they are going to eat it in the next day or so to firm everything back up (plastic wrap on, it won’t hurt anything). Bring it to room temp before eating by sitting on the counter for an hour or so. If they are waiting to eat it, freeze it and then thaw in fridge overnight before eating. A Bundt cake should hold up well- it’s best to ship cakes in colder months for sure! It won’t arrive perfect, but definitely in one piece and fine to eat! It’s pretty special to get a whole cake in the mail ❤️ good luck!

      Hi! I believe international shipping might take a bit longer? If it already really cold weather, you might be okay to send it if it’ll get there in 3-4 days? I’m not super sure though!

      The box will definitely get tossed around, even with fragile and “this side up” stickers...if it’s packed correctly with lots of packing paper/bubble wrap it will be fine. Just be sure the design on the outside is forgiving to dings it might get - anything textured or covered with sprinkles.
