    One of the best and honest videos I’ve seen on CZcams. I’m in the same boat, I’ve been running my box truck business in the same manner, from the top. I just put my box truck for sale and will be purchasing a semi truck applying the same method and principles.
    I didn’t think about finding a driver through a staffing agency, thank you for enlightening me.

    Thank you for your honesty regarding the true numbers. Most CZcamsrs gloss over the hard numbers, My biggest concern is your fuel mileage. I have been at this since 1996, and back then fuel was $0.80 per gallon, so we could afford big motors 525 -550 HP and our trucks were ungoverned. Back then my fuel mileage was about 5-6 MPG. Today with the high fuel cost you need to be at 7-8 MPG. You achieve this by having the truck governed to a reasonable speed, and being at not more than 455 - 475 HP. You local truck dealership can plug your truck ECM to a shop computer and they can configure the proper settings for optimum fuel efficiency. All the best.

      Can i ask a question. Was it normal for the dealership to cover just 50% of his repairs? Especially when the truck was recently purchased? Can he still get extended warranty now?

    • @Dan13Speed
      @Dan13Speed Před 2 lety +3

      @@tanylogisticsgroupllc7052 Truck Warranties come in all forms and in all manner of fine print. You have to carefully read through the warranty and understand what is covered and what is not. I remember in 2002 I purchased a 1999 VNL 770 with 525 CAT 13 speed Eaton Fuller Manual. Little did I know that Volvo and Caterpillar were going through a legal tussle that would cost me $26000 for a new motor out of pocket as by 2004 the truck had a check engine light that would not go away. I took it to Volvo and they said take it to CAT and vice versa. In the end it appeared that no one was interested in fixing my problem and cylinder 5 failed when I was under a load. Fortunately for me I still owed $14K to Associates Financial who were a really big Truck Financing Company at the time. I wrote to them and nothing happened for weeks. Fortunately I had a 2002 Freightliner that a Driver had quit a few weeks before so I was back on the road in a few days. This problem with the Volvo Warranty and CAT did not go well for almost 3 months. Eventually I bought a remanned motor put it into the truck and put it back on the road. I sued all three companies for failing to honor a warranty. As soon as my lawyer filed the lawsuit they settled within 20 days and sent me the title on the truck with a big fat check. To answer your question, anything can be expected when it comes to a warranty including my horror story. Keep on Trucking. God Bless.

    • @Dan13Speed
      @Dan13Speed Před 2 lety +3

      @@tanylogisticsgroupllc7052 Here is another warranty horror story. A friend of mine bought a Peterbuilt from a Dealer in Biloxi, and got the usual 500k / 5 yr warranty, and encountered engine
      Trouble in Spokane. He was towed to a Peterbuilt Shop in Spokane only to find out that the warranty was only good for repairs at the dealership where he bought the truck, so any break downs out of town were not covered by this warranty. Towing a truck 3000 Miles to MS at $5 a mile is no laughing matter either. Anyways these are some of the things you learn when you get into the business. Save your money. Keep a Good Credit, because when it rains it pours. Don't do dump stuff like paying for fuel and tires in cash. Get a credit card and use the banks money. You never know when you need cash in this business, and when you do need it, it's a boat load that can put you out of business quick. I cannot stress this point. Save your Money.

      @@Dan13Speed Thanks Dan. Well detailed analysis. Yes extended warranty are always tricky and will never cover everything anyway. I am glad you mentioned it. When it pours, it rains lol. Those towing fees are never friendly. One motor blow up put my friend out of business for months . He was looking at over 30k for repairs, plus towing. May God bless our hustle. Stay safe.

      Zach is doing a good job. Box trucks are profitable for many, depends on your business structure. There are people with 20 boxes and will never go near Semi for once. It varies per individual. Semi is the sweetest of course if you dont have a driver problem, def problem, water pump issues or motor blowing up.

    Glad you are making a profit, however I feel you should be making closer to $4/mi on all your miles in those 2 weeks. If a driver stays out at least 2 weeks, you should make good money, but the ones who want to be home every week, those trucks won't make much money based on my experience. I personally have owned trucks since 2013 as a business owner and do not have a CDL. I lease my trucks to the trucking company in which I work for and I dispatch my own truck. I pay 9%, 53' Dry Van Trailer Rental cost, IFTA, ELD, Cargo Insurance & Physical Insurance for Trailer.
    As for routing the driver, I personally do not advise my driver on what to take because you have to think about no truck routes and low bridges and if you route your driver incorrectly, you can put him in a lot of trouble which could come as a huge liability to you. Fuel is eating up $0.71 - $0.86/mile if your truck gets 5 - 6 miles to the gallon.
    Do you know what your truck is getting MPG? Also what is the weight of the loads in which you are taking? Also, this is a truck you bought from the dealership right? Did they give you virgin tires for your drive tires or did they put recaps on the drives? If its recaps, then get ready to spend a lot of money on those drive tires as you get into April and May and things start to heat up outside. That will be $300 - 400 per tire times 8 = $2400 - $3200 . Most dealerships generally put on recap tires on the drives just as an FYI.

It's good for everything in the northeast, TX ,OK, KS, IN, OH, IL. Also look into the combo transponder that will let your driver bypass some (a lot) of weigh stations too.
