    Hey man, really beautiful film... Did you use a rokinon lenses with native mft mounts or did you buy a separate adapter?
    The reason i'm asking is because i've heard that using full frame lenses on smaller lenses apparently gives you less sharp image?

  • @pedrolopezarce

    The stabilization is very good, used the premier stabilization correction? since no carry stabilizer Rokinon no ?. Fabulous job

    • @LawtonMeyer
      @LawtonMeyer  Před 7 lety

      Thanks! I get most of my stabilization from using my glidegear dna 5050 rig, or a tripod. If the image is a bit jittery I'll use warp stabilizer in premiere at about 2-5%

    That is really slick. Great cinematography. Did you use the Samyang 35mm M4/3 for this lens? Or the metabones adapter? I was thinking of getting the Samyang 35 for my Lumix :)

    • @LawtonMeyer
      @LawtonMeyer  Před 8 lety

      +Jonas Urvakis I use a metabones speedbooster, and all rokinon lenses. Which I believe rokinon and samyang are essentially the same thing? I'm not sure exactly, but I used the rokinons and they're are amazing.

    Why shot in 1080 and not 4K please ?

    • @LawtonMeyer
      @LawtonMeyer  Před 5 lety +1

      GH4 didn't have as many 4k options as GH5 does. Also I shot this soooo long ago, way before I had a computer that could handle 4k.

    • @LawtonMeyer
      @LawtonMeyer  Před 5 lety +1

      @@dark-california I have in the past, but try to avoid it. If something is just going on youtube it may look fine, but else where I saw a pretty big drop in quality, with the GH4 anyway. I prefer to scale down rather than scale up. If you check out my short film "the acorn becomes the oak" on my channel I scaled up some of the winter shots during the montage from 1080 to 4k and I bet no one can tell. So like I said on youtube, probably fine, but only when necessary.

    • @LawtonMeyer
      @LawtonMeyer  Před 8 lety

      +newcomingfilms Thanks really appreciate it! I actually just grade everything in Adobe Premiere, it's quicker and simpler. I use Osiris Luts as a base then put a bunch of adjustments on until I get what I'm going for.

    • @newcomingfilms
      @newcomingfilms Před 8 lety +1

      Do you use a Metabones Speedbooster and EF mount lenses? I was thinking about getting a GH4 and these Rokinons, but I don't know if I should get the MTF mount versions of the lenses or the EF mounts and a Speedbooster. I don't really have a huge budget, so I'm wary about about dropping $600 for a Speedbooster, but then I would be able to use the lenses on other cameras.

    • @LawtonMeyer
      @LawtonMeyer  Před 8 lety

      +newcomingfilms Yes that's exactly what I do. I had a canon t4i before the gh4 with two of these rokinon lenses. So from my position the cheaper option was to get the speedbooster. $600 instead of getting all new lenses just made more sense to me. They also make these lenses for MFT so it's really up to you, whatever suits your needs and budget.

    • @LawtonMeyer
      @LawtonMeyer  Před 8 lety +1

      +Kansas City Chief Most of it is with the 60fps VFR. The rest is just real time 24fps, some of the shots might also be sped up a bit.

      +Lawton Meyer What ISO you recommend at night to reduce noise. I've heard ISO 200 keeps it pretty clean

    • @LawtonMeyer
      @LawtonMeyer  Před 8 lety +1

      I don't think there's one iso that's perfect it depends on the situation, if it's low light I usually go around 800. The shot in the beginning wasn't actually at night though, it was shot during the day.

    should I get rokinon 12mm or 14mm ?
    if i get rokinon for panasonic micro 4/3 can i stick it to speedbooster ? because speedbooster has different mounts

    • @LawtonMeyer
      @LawtonMeyer  Před 8 lety +1

      +shian Persian Thanks man, I really appreciate it. Yes if you get a speedbooster make sure to get the 4/3 one, then there are different versions for canon, sony, nikon, etc. My lenses are for canon ef mount so that's the one I got. Get 4/3 to whatever lenses you have. As for 12mm vs 14mm, 14mm is already pretty wide, I've never used 12mm so can't really say, it's totally up to you and what you're looking for in a lens. I would say the 14mm is a bit more general purpose, like once you get close with the 12mm it might start to distort things, but that could look cool stylistically, and if you get a speedbooster there's no crop factor or less of one anyway. I would say get the 14 but I'm kinda biased since that's the one I use lol.

      And as you already have cine lenses, do you think they are different than still lenses for videography ? i have Panasonic 14mm-42mm and I am thinking should i buy rokinon cine 14mm micro 4/3 or not ,btw sorry for too much questions cause i finally find a professional video maker like you.

    • @LawtonMeyer
      @LawtonMeyer  Před 8 lety

      +shian Persian Well I like cine prime lens over zoom lens for a few reasons, one the rokinons are much cheaper, and in my opinion look nicer. It's also good to have a fixed focal length so you can really learn what that focal length looks like. That way you know 50mm is going to look like this, 24 like this, etc. With a zoom lens I think alot of people tend to just use it as a cropping tool, and don't really learn each focal length. Another reason being I never use auto focus, so I have no need for an electronic lens. That's just how I look at things though, there's no one answer, zoom lens can be better in many cases. It really depends on how you shoot and what you do. If you don't want to carry around a bunch of different lens then zoom will probably be best. But Rokinons are really great they're cheap, sturdy, and look amazing.

    So amazing! Can I still get the same quality with this lense without the speed booster?? And will it still fit the m4/3 mount without the speed booster?

    • @LawtonMeyer
      @LawtonMeyer  Před 6 lety

      As far as quality, it would be the same resolution, yes. The image would be a different size though. So for example if you put a 14mm on a 4/3 sensor it becomes the equivalent field of view of a 28mm.

    • @12hardcorekid1
      @12hardcorekid1 Před 6 lety

      Lawton Meyer I hope that wouldn’t be too much of a difference, I really love what the way it looks the way you shot it. How much more cropped looking would you say it would be?
      I’m still learning about this stuff please bare with me hahaha.the speed booster is ridiculously expensive but I’m pretty sure I want this lense! Just wanna make sure it’s a wise choice and if It would still be just as good without the speed booster

    • @LawtonMeyer
      @LawtonMeyer  Před 6 lety

      It'd be good either way. It really depends on what you want, how you shoot, etc. For me the speedbooster was a practical choice. I owned a canon t4i before the gh4 and already had two ef mount lenses. Instead of spending $2,000+ on new mft lenses I got a $500 speedbooster. Something the speedbooster also does is add depth of field, which you may want if you're going for a cinematic vibe. If this is your first camera + lens then I can see how a speedbooster seems excessive. But if you're worried solely about quality it won't make a difference.

      I definitely want a cinematic atmospheric look to my footage, I have a very particular taste and eye for what I want and this is just magnificent so I’ll consider getting that then.
      What kind of Cine lense are you using

    can you tell me how did you got the firdt shot of the sky ? and how did you color correct the first lanscape take ?

    • @LawtonMeyer
      @LawtonMeyer  Před 8 lety +2

      The sky shot is actually two shots together, and it was a hassle lol. The first shot I took during the day with blue skies and panned down to the tree line. The second shot is actually just a picture I took at night of the night sky. I replaced the blue sky with the picture of stars, using I believe luma key in after affects. I tried to get as clean a key as possible but it was tricky with all the branches. I motion tracked the image so that the sky would stay with the image as it pans down. And last I color graded it to look like night time. I have a before and after video on my channel, you can find by following this link: czcams.com/video/dxHWVi1YFjw/video.html
      The first landscape shot I colored by starting with an osiris lut, and then added adjustments, luma curve, threeway color corrector, unsharp mask, and I think I used rgb curves, and also tint. All graded in premiere. Just a matter of making adjustments until you have the desired look. And whenever shooting with any kind of flat footage it helps to start with a lut.

    This is without the speedbooster, correct? Are you using MFT mount?

    • @LawtonMeyer
      @LawtonMeyer  Před 8 lety

      Nope, this is with the seepdbooster. I only have canon mount lenses, so the speedbooster just stays on my camera.

    • @brandonhull9091
      @brandonhull9091 Před 8 lety

      Gotcha, and how are you pulling focus on these gliding shots? Do you have a buddy on remote?

    • @LawtonMeyer
      @LawtonMeyer  Před 8 lety +2

      No I usually just set focus before I start shooting. With a wide lens it's easier to keep more areas in focus. So with the moving shots I'm using 14mm, and then also closing the aperture a ways, which I do in daylight anyway, to maybe 11-22 anywhere in there, will increase the areas in focus. So you might notice none of the wide shots get super close to anything.
