the gyarados player needs more energy removal and gust of wind- you need to pull that alakazam out of its hole, paralyze it (disable the power) then kill it turn 2
I'm late but this is a really cool concept. I'm 32 and despite loving pokemon since I was 6 when it came to the US, I entirely missed the old TCG scene. The cards looked cool and thats all i cared about lol. This gives people like me a glimpse into how it was back then.
Congrats on hitting 300 subs! I've been playing vintage Pokémon with the goal of slowly working my way through the formats and building decks for myself and friends to play with. I'm just focusing on Base-fossil for now, but this channel has been a great resource for ideas while also being entertaining. I'm actually surprised you're just now hitting 300 subs; I think the channel has potential to grow much larger and I'm excited to stick around and hopefully see it thrive!
i started playing tcg at my age of 32 years old now. i haven't got the chance to play it back in 2000s because i'm not really into pokemon let alone pokemon tcg. now in nintendo switch they released pokemon tcg on NSO gameboy color. it hooked me up and i started playing it, couldn't put it down. i didn't know it was that fun! then i discovered your channel when learning how to use blastoise, and boy that rain dance can be really used even though it's on the bench. and that machamp deck is crazy strong.
I never liked this game in childhood. But now I can see energy cards are not supposed to be discarded every time attack is used ! That makes more sense :P
4x Abra 2x Kadabra 3x Alakazam 3x Machop 2x Machoke 2x Machamp 4x Chansey 1x Doduo 4x Energy Retrieval 3x Professor Oak 3x Switch 3x Item Finder 2x Computer Search 2x Pokémon Center 2x Pokémon Trader 2x Pokémon Breeder 1x Maintenance 1x Lass 12x Fighting Energy 4x Double Colorless Energy
I already subscribed to your channel because you have great contents, I hope you make more deck match ups from Base, Jungle, & Fossil sets only. ☺️☺️☺️
If the Alakazam never knocked out, you never loose with this deck. If I am making a Alakazam deck, my Pokémon are: Chansey (ofcours, Promo Mewto always a good choice and a Mr Mime for surprise, Great against Big strong hitters ( Pokémon power)
I would say probably not because the movie promo Mewtwo was very popular during that time and could one-hit KO Alakazam, so it wouldn't be doing very much
@@holon_phantom i mean it really wasnt back in the day, i remember back in base set, you can squeeze 4 energy remval (dont play super removal unless your raindance)
@Alex Nas yeah you can put them in but it would make it less consistent and it's hard enough to search out key cards. Professor oak and computer search discard too many resources and there's no way to get discarded pokemon back in the deck
@@holon_phantom its why you only added 3 profs and 4 bills, you wanna be able to oak turn 1 after the first few turns you slow down your draws, its why you also added gust of winds to get KO's
Jason Klaczynski’s lists for these two decks are tighter than they seem. Both decks run three copies of Switch to stop Haymaker from stranding the supporting stage 2’s in the active with Gust of Wind, which puts a strain on deck space and pushes Energy Removal out. As for Gust of Wind in Rain Dance, the Rain Dance player would rather keep those hard-earned Gyarados alive with Super Potion, since it will only be able to take 2-hit-KOs on Hitmonchan or Electabuzz regardless of whether or not Gust of Wind is in hand. There simply isn’t enough room in Rain Dance to sufficiently tech against both Haymaker and Alakazam.
Maintenance is the shittiest card in the game. "Shuffle two cards in order to draw a card". Maintenance cold have been the card instead, and wouldn't have had to shuffle two into deck. I'm trying to think of a SINGLE case it culd be useful. Oh , right, F* this card, i DO want it in my deck, so thats why im gonna shuffle it back in before i professor ok. so its professor oaks supporter. when ever would you say, i dont want this card now but i MIGHT want it later... shuffle it back in is what i should do. absolutely never
How the Gyarados side didnt flip the table in frustration is beyond me 😂
You didn't see the outtakes haha
The Gyrados player used Rage outside the play!
The Gyrados player is too angry that he fainted!
That Machamp, Chansey, and Alakazam combo is too good.
Man this was amazing! So much nostalgia! I remember when Toys R Us used to hold Pokemon competitions every weekend. This was so good to watch

OMG Machamp and Alakazam deck is so strong😍 I never thought that the childhood cards could be played in such a meta way

Please make more content like this ! It’s a great watch, awesome stuff.
Thank you! We like to bounce around between different years so we'll get back to WOTC eventually
Congrats on hitting 300 subs!

Thanks a lot! I'm hoping to continue growing this channel throughout the following year, I appreciate you tagging along with us!

It's such a fun game! Glad you enjoy it!
Why not using Bubblebeam? You could have paralized Machamp, deactivate the pokebody and win before evolving Abra.
That’s exactly what I would’ve done.
This could have saved the Gyarados player fr
Use the team rocket magikarp with rapid evolution!!
That feeling when you reeeally need a gust! Poor rain dance. Machamp just wouldn't budge.
Lol good times
You never bring an Alakazam/Chansey deck to a friendly match. Lol
This game has been on just the focus of two major Pokemon 😂😂I love it!!
I really love this Machamp+Alakazam deck. What a combo!
This was a fun game to watch, love the retro cards
That Pokémon center play! Wow
It was so annoying!
Was rooting for the Gyarados till the end, GGs to the guy! Really enjoying this kind of content keep it up!
That damage swap ability is soooo broken 😂😂😅
love base set. I think I have a reasonable charizard build
Both strong decks! I used that macchamp with Slowbro from fossil in the Gameboy tcg game it was a similar strategy and worked really well
Nice! Yeah i love this format
I never liked this game in childhood. But now I can see energy cards are not supposed to be discarded every time attack is used ! That makes more sense :P
Doesn't the Raindance deck has any gust of wind?
This Alakazam/Pokemon Center strategy is disgusting. I need the build of this deck right now.
love ex era 2004-2006 pkmtcg i never played at the time but my friend has decks its really fun great video
We've got some ex format battles lined up!
@@holon_phantom i think the people need to see that latias gold star and lugia ex unseen forces =))

Thanks for the video, super nostalgic, do you have decklists?

I'll add some to the list of upcoming battles, thank you!
@@holon_phantom May I know the Deck List of The Gyarados Deck? It just got unlucky in the early rounds. But it looks strong.
Did squirtle not have a gust of wind to switch in the Alakazam?
Alakazam with Pokemon Center is such a toxic combo 😂
If the Alakazam never knocked out, you never loose with this deck.
If I am making a Alakazam deck, my Pokémon are: Chansey (ofcours, Promo Mewto always a good choice and a Mr Mime for surprise, Great against Big strong hitters ( Pokémon power)
OUCH! >_
Ionno why the dude didn’t use bubble beam to paralyze the machamp. Had blastoise to help with all the energies too so he was awful at this game
But what does Bill do? 🤔
Where’s gust of wind when you need it lol?
Thanks X
No gust of wind???
Shouldn't poke power be used by active pokemon only? Pokepower on bench pokemon seems to be broken.
Alakazam isn't that weak also... the Gyarados player needed only a few Gust of Wind in his deck.
Is Gyarados alakazam still good in base-fossil format?
I would say probably not because the movie promo Mewtwo was very popular during that time and could one-hit KO Alakazam, so it wouldn't be doing very much
no, once Jungle was Release Haymaker really started to take over and when Fossil hit, Blastoise was the way to go with Articuno and Lapras.
you can attack on the first turn???
Yeah, in the original format there were no restrictions for first turn player. You can even retreat as many times as you want per turn.
Alakazam should have been emergency banned back in the day that was bullcrap
was energy removal banned?
no, but it's hard to squeeze it into these list because they need so much space to fill with the evolution lines
@@holon_phantom i mean it really wasnt back in the day, i remember back in base set, you can squeeze 4 energy remval (dont play super removal unless your raindance)
