    You inspire me. Plan on doing a 20x35 patio on the other side of my pool. I will leave a 6” gravel gap between pool concrete and pavers for drainage.
    Thanks for your work!

      That's very cool, the 6" gap in between is a very good idea. You won't have any water issues at that point. Thanks for the feedback and good luck with your project! ✌

    • @TheChristianHardscaper
      @TheChristianHardscaper  Před rokem

      Just because it would not do much. With this 3/8 inch crushed stone, compacting before screeding is pretty much pointless. Hard to explain why other than it is a loose aggregate with no binder material. You can compact loose materials over and over, it will still be loose after.

    Thank you for all your amazing videos! I've watched dozens of other pavers on YT but you clearly have the BEST techniques!!! I've learned so much for my own patio project. Please tell me the name of the black landscape cloth you use. Also how can I adjust your aggregate technique for height variations laying flagstone rather than pavers. None of your videos cover flagstone.

    • @TheChristianHardscaper
      @TheChristianHardscaper  Před 2 lety

      Thank you very much for the support, I appreciate it! With Flagstone I would screed based on the thickest stones and add chip stone where necessary for the thinner pieces to bring them up to correct grade. I hope that makes sense… ✌🏻

    Love your videos and the in-depth explanations of why you do specific things. I'm getting ready to lay a 400 sq ft Bluestone patio at our house and my plan was 8-10 of base rock (#57). I was going to incorporate your method of an inch or so right on the soil then fabric, then backfill. With bluestone though since the thickness varies and the surface of the stone isn't the same across all of them would 3/4" stone for screed still be the best bet? It also seems that sand or something finer would be better to contour those irregular shapes? Curious your thoughts. Thanks!!

    • @TheChristianHardscaper
      @TheChristianHardscaper  Před rokem +1

      Thank you, glad you enjoy them! I would still recommend the same method as I use for pavers. The chip stone will always be better than sand, especially for natural stone. ✌

    Subscribed and enjoying your videos on pavers for my big project. In my area we have 3/4 clean and 1/4 clean. How many inches base of 3/4 clean as the first base? How many inches of 1/4 clean as the second layer? Sorry if i missed it.

    • @TheChristianHardscaper
      @TheChristianHardscaper  Před rokem +1

      That's awesome, I appreciate the support! I use 5-8 inches of 3/4 clean depending on the situation, and 1-1.5 inches of 1/4 clean stone. So with the paver height, we excavate 8-10 inches below top of grade. Good luck! ✌

  • @joemccabe3250
    @joemccabe3250 Před 2 lety +1

    Have you ever done pavers around a pool? The first piece is on top the lip of the foberglass pool so it will never settle . Was curious if you would set the rest 1/8-1/4 inch high for future settlement? Or before the plate tamp

    • @TheChristianHardscaper
      @TheChristianHardscaper  Před 2 lety

      I would definitely recommend setting them higher and tamping / hammering into place. You do that to force the settlement of what years of nature would do. Other than that, make sure you have a minimum of a strong 1/8 pitch - 1/4 pitch of slope away from pool in all directions. ✌🏻

  • @AH-up8zh
    @AH-up8zh Před 2 lety +3

    Question?... Why don't you run the pattern that goes with these pavers?... That way you don't get joint lines that go so long or multiple sizes next to one another...

    • @TheChristianHardscaper
      @TheChristianHardscaper  Před 2 lety +3

      I actually prefer randomly laid pavers compared to a pattern. I don’t like to look at a patio that has the same pattern repeated over and over again… just personal preference though. I think the longest line 6 pavers… which really isn’t bad on a patio this size ✌🏻

    Hi, in the video you mentioned that you "try not to poly-sand against the wall".. and judging by the distance between the paver & wall, there's no space for concrete edging, righ? So just leave them with no edging like that?

    • @TheChristianHardscaper
      @TheChristianHardscaper  Před rokem +1

      We fill the gap with the same crushed stone that we lay our pavers on ( 3/8 inch ). That locks the pavers in but allows for water from the siding to freely travel through and down into the subsoil rathe than traveling over the patio. ✌

    And you do or dont tamp the 57 stone base below the chip stone?

    • @TheChristianHardscaper
      @TheChristianHardscaper  Před 2 lety +1

      On patios and walkways with just foot traffic, I only compact the first layer into the subsoil. Then I lay geotextile fabric over the compacted stone and backfill to height with the 3/4 clean (no need to compact). Then spread and screed the chip stone. I compact the pavers into the chip during the polymeric sand stage. I tell people that if they want to compact the 3/4, you certainly can, but it comes 98% compacted once raked out. For driveways however, I would compact as well as lay geogrid in between the backfill layers to account for vehicular traffic.

    How come you don’t use or install permeable paving despite going to all that effort of having a free draining sub-base and free draining bedding layer and still rely on having a slope to carry the run-off away from the property (nothing wrong with a slight fall away from property regardless of whether permeable or non permeable patio) even though all the work for a permeable patio or walkway has already been done, my question is are these exact same design pavers not available as permeable pavers, how different could they be from each other, sorry about the long post but am just a little confused, thanks and your work is always beautiful as always.

    • @TheChristianHardscaper
      @TheChristianHardscaper  Před 10 měsíci

      A permeable system would require small crushed stone in the joints that could possibly get all over the patio down the road. This is called a (Hybrid) method because you get the benefits of a well draining base and the nice finish look of a non permeable install. Any paver can be permeable but if the joints are too small, you have to space them out farther. I go through all the effort of a permeable base so that the pavers I lay down will last for decades. Thanks for the support! ✌
