I remember in Texas I broke down 50 miles to the closest AutoZone and had to drive my van 10 mph to the AutoZone. I felt so hopeless, I didn't have the money to buy the tool and part I needed, but the couple behind bought it for me. I didn't even make eye contact with them, as I left the store and went outside and just cried didn't know what to do, they came out and bought me the things I needed and they offered to buy me something to eat. I was so overwhelmed with emotion of thankfulness and couldn't control my crying. They also got me a room for the night.
God provides in amazing ways. Beautiful story. Stay safe.

Mateo, just be careful when visiting remote places like the desert unless you prepare a plan b for breakdowns being single. Glad it all worked out just note tires in the best condition can pose a risk so if your mind tells you they are iffy place it safe plus make sure oil and engine fluid is checked every 3500 with a older vehicle. O.M.G. THIS EXACT THING HAPPENED TO ME. I was in the middle of Navajo Nation. My tire was leaking where i could only drive 60 miles on it. The closest tire shop was 150 miles. When i showed up it just closed and when it ipened in the morning the guys were not coming in because It was a holiday weekend so NO tire shops were open. I had to drive 265 mile out of my way to Grand Junction Colorado. There thankfully was a Discount Tire, where i bought my tires from, under warranty. They "fixed" tge leak. Went to get gas and my tire becaume flat again. So went back. The tire was faulty. They did not have my tire in stock ir similar, same size. I was going to have to wait there for three days. The manager ended up giving me 4 new tires, size larger FOR FREE. People are so helpful. I have been showed so much kindness by so many strangers on my journeys.❤ ❤❤❤❤❤❤

I have to admit after just having the other van trouble I was surprised to see you driving around the way you were off road in the last video. I don’t have those guts because all I would think is a tire blow or car breaking down and getting stranded. Yes AAA has a premium package that will tow up to 500 miles. However, they will not cover you even a lock out if you are off the main road. So keep hat in mind with BLM land. Be safe and at least you already have everything with since you live in your vehicle and it didn’t result in an accident and you had that spare tire!

Always check with your insurance carrier. Oftentimes, for just a few dollars, you can add towing or roadside assistance that AAA won't cover.

The gravel will do it every time. I was driving my husbands car alittle to rough over gravel. The next morning he woke up to a flat tire. Of course i didn't tell him it was my fault 😊

I think AAA has a premium membership that costs a little more and will tow you further. Sometimes, you can call the tow trucks in that area wherever you are and the individual owners will come get you.

Colorado sounds like a good place to go. The winters in Colorado Springs is way milder than in the midwest...IMO. Get some good all terrain tires.

What you experienced is definitely one of my fears have a blowout in an unknown or not so frequent area outside of my comfort zone. Cool you did that lake bed! It's on my list now, too. But geeeeez, what a Sunday. You and Madilynn both dealing with major challenges and repairs, changing plans, calmly, and in stride. Having watched this, I feel like I gotta either A) find my spare tire and jack and practice using it, or B) Carry an extra $700 around for a tow truck. :)
Check with your insurance carrier. You can often add roadside assistance or towing for a very reasonable amount. I won't roadtrip anywhere without it, as it's saved me HUNDREDS of dollars in unexpected towing fees.

I love van lifers who cook, relax, and enjoy their food with us. It's akin to sitting across from someone talking at the dinner table. You can sense when some creators are shy about doing that, which is reflected in their subbie numbers. In my humble opinion.

The thing about your van being your home and traveling you always have to have good treads on your tires and that you have a tune up and oil change and tip top shape breaks.. thank God you had a spare tire and the know how to put it on.. Glad you are safe Mataeo❤❤❤
Wow, that shredded tire is impressively frightening. I'm so glad you were able to get to the tire shop on the spare. Les Schwab is the best (I'm from Oregon). As far as next direction, maybe think about going to Quartzsite for the RTR? Snow is pretty close by in Flagstaff, if you like snow. There's good dispersed camping in that area.

Same here. I really want to start solo road tripping/car camping in my van. I'll be doing it in the summer and fall though.

I tested it out a couple of nights and slept fine. That was before I had a bed though. I got a cot that will work but I'm being lazy about building a folding bed out of plywood with storage underneath.

I'm sorry that you were stranded well temporarily 🙏🏿 I have had AAA for over 30 years and the plan I have is AAA plus which inludes 100 miles of towing, because I always plan for the worst case scenario. Also most car insurance includes towing as well. The AAA coverage you selected was for local driving not sufficient for van life travel.

Extra lugnuts.
That's just for this situation.. don't forget extra fan belt, hose repair tape. And fuses.
He'd have needed a lot of patch kits for this one. haha

@mikemurphymagic no.. that was a complete fart feast there.done deal for sure. 🫠. I myself i only carry full size spares on my vans. Even my conversion van trailer has 2 spare tires . Us old school 2%er know a few things about breakdowns... never fun regardless big or small.

@@winterisblulike I tell some people that first AAA deal is not good upgrade to second are third deal, and also buy a little quick air jack to plug in lighter outlet, cause if your spare was flat you would have been in trouble with no road service there

If you had planned to get new tires the next day, why not get new tires first before going into the desert in the middle of nowhere?
At least it happened on a road like that instead of an interstate or busy hiway with no shoulder. Are you going to be ok? Just found your channel and subbed. Praying for you. Make sure to check your brakes, ball joints, and tie rods when you change the tires. The whole wheel assembly and drive train can take a serious beating out on those rough roads.
