One of the things I like best about Mateo (hope I spelled that right) is that he’s so people friendly.
He’s just able to meet up with people of all walks of life, and interact with them like he’s known them forever.
In my opinion, that’s a beautiful gift because a lot people can’t do that. His soul and energy is amazing and that’s just one of the reasons why I like this channel so much.

As someone who has been eyeing Oregon for their next home, where would you recommend for someone to move to?
@moqa_186 What's your personality like? Each region/town is a bit different. You can literally find a little bit of everything here. Finances also play a role, unfortunately, due to cost of living. Also, what is important to you culture-wise? Is being close to the city important to you? Education or specialized study? Healthcare? Technology? Are politics important to you? Coast? Dunes? Desert? Mountains? Skiing? Paragliding? Sailing? Foodie? Have a particular subculture or genere that you're into? What kind of forest? Rainforest, old growth forest, super tall trees, Sasquatch country? Oregon has it all. If you want to let me know more about what you're looking for, I can give you the right location.

@willow3306 Be prepared for hardcore weather shock! It rains a solid 9 months here, no exaggeration. If you aren't prepared for the "doom & gloom" it can be really hard on transplants to the area. If you're used to sunny blue skies and lots of heat, you need to know going in that here it is foggy, drizzly, overcast, cold and grey, beginning in Sept/October and lasting until ~June. Need lots of layers here: under-armor, cotton shirts, long sleeves, flannels, fleece, hoodies, gore-tex, and beanies. It's not a mere style here, it's so you don't get pneumonia. 😅 A lot of people have a really hard time with the transition to "No Sun" and depression is a big reality that a lot are shocked by if you aren't prepared for the change. (One of my friends has a whole office of SAD lamps to try and help with the adjustment and seasonal depression.) Oregon is amazing, but you have to be prepared for it, or the shock will send you packing within the first year. Really do your research on where you want to move to. You can't just say, "I want to move to Oregon. I'll go to Portland without a plan and it will all be fine." It's NOT like it was in the 90's when you *could* do that. Cost of living is really high. Rents are unbelievable. Housing in general almost doesn't exist. Homelessness is rampant. Jobs are surprisingly hard to come by unless you're a specialist with experience in your field. I'm not trying to sound discouraging, I just want people to be successful in their transition, and a big part of that is being realistic and KNOWING what you're getting into, and HAVING A PLAN. This beautiful land of forests, waterfalls, and volcanoes isn't for everyone. Make sure you have plans, gear, and finances ready. When you do, it's AMAZING here! 🌲💚🌲

Hooray, finally a van lifer actually cooking great food! I live in a tiny shack and just cook with a single gas burner and I get so sick of seeing van lifers just make boxed mac and cheese. You can totally cook great from scratch food with just one burner. Thank you for the inspiration, those wings looked amazing!

I’m sure someone has mentioned it but there is an older book out there called” hot springs of the great north west”. It really helped me do an off grid hotsprings tour before it was called any fancy names. I made it all through the great north west in the late 80s early 90s with its help
