I would rather mount your IFAK on the outside of the kit, so it can be found easily by your battle buddies if you're incapacitated from wounds, especially your CAT 7 tourniquet for arterial bleeding.
I almost went with an FLC before ultimately choosing the TAPS. I might still get one, you can configure it to be more like a chest rig as well. I think they're definitely slept on. A great minuteman setup.
Anything woodland in good to new condition is getting to be real expensive these days. If anyone has the ability to dye the ACU pattern it'll be a real money saver. Glad I'm not the only one rocking the FLC in this world of Gucci gear snobs.
@@michiganoblast I found a medium ACU ruck that was commercially dyed for supposedly a special operations unit but never used them. Hell.... these were brand new rucks selling for less than ones without the dye job.
Luckily my local surplus place has heaps of the USMC stuff in the $5 bin 😬 I really dislike ACU and having to dye it, and for the cost of Woodland stuff it’s not worth it to me.
@@rifleshooterchannel208 You're kidding. The local surplus stores in my area has either very old and used ALICE gear, ACU gear, or the Chineseium Rothco brand which will come apart the first time it gets wet. The best time to get woodland gear was about 9 years ago.
@@ronstryker Not kidding. My understanding of the market was skewed based on how cheap I was seeing this stuff there. Like I couldn’t understand why Eagle 2x2 pouches with the buckles were going for $25 plus shipping on eBay when I see them for $5 a pop 😂 I have maybe 4 coyote FLCs I set up various ways with pouches I got for cheap. Currently my favorite configuration is actually the cheapest to put together (based on eBay prices), I use a coyote FLC set up to hold 6 mags via a 3 mag shingle on each front panel and a USMC buckle med pouch under my left arm and a coyote canteen pouch behind my right hip. Keeps the weight spread well and is flat in the front.
You can easily ditch the inner belt in favor of some elastic or regular nylon webbing, and cross the rear straps in an “X” strap pattern. This will let you streamline the vest a bit without making and real permanent changes. Swap the upper front buckle for a G-Hook, and add another one down low. You can put a couple SAW Drum pouches as do anything GP pouches. Put your maps in the built in mesh map pockets or in the belt sleeve. That will free up space for an IFAK. Unless you plan on mounting grenade, pistol mag, or small GP pouches up high on the chest for a compass, dip/smokes, grenades, flashlight, multi-tool, writing gear, batteries, ear pro, or pistol mags, you can lose some of the excess fabric and unstitch the top 3-4 rows of MOLLE.
That things pretty dope. I also like how u can set up your pouches how u want unlike w the British ops vests how the pouches are all sewn on and u can’t move em around.
I love the idea of a ventilated mesh molle system like this. They can easily be laid over a slick low profile plate armour carrier as well... ;) Plus for my airsoft purposes the German made and manufactured Mil-tec Modular Vest System is actually a pretty interesting concept like this but even further modernized and improved and even came with a bunch of rare French CCE woodland camo pouches made out of 600D nylon and even have a internal PU coating for I think abrasion and weather resistance, durability etc. Very interesting kit, 6 straps in the back, shoulder velcro adjustment, internal emergency holster on the left side pocket (that could easily be modified at your discretion) (right side open zipper pocket). Zipper down the middle for open and close. Has it's same buckles too like the FLC. But the further adjustment, the even more molle space and a lot of other interesting upgrades make this vest something I want to review. Cause theirs literally only 2 reviews on youtube of the Mil-Tec Modular Vest System both in German. I would love to make a informative video on that one and my setup. The massive 2 SAW mag pouches it comes with holds a lot of mags for example, like I could probably cram 4 or at least 3 for sure If i tried I bet. Short vietnam style mags would fit a plenty in these. Mount the pouches to my sides so I can prone and crawl no problem. 2 Mag/Grenade style pouches. 2 small bandage/utility pouches. It's basically like a upgraded modernized German made FLC or OPS vest. Even has Molle backing but I am not mounting anything instead I am using the back to have more rigidity when I throw my assault pack over top very comfortably, low profile, wide but thin shoulder straps which I am sure the end user could add their own extra padding to the shoulders somehow if they pleased but I seem fine with it on first impressions.
At this point im + size my new FLC fits just fine. As i keep droping wait ill have to adjust. Comparing this to my U.S.A.F SF LCS H- Harness its quit comfortable. With a more heavy load out my H- Harness can carry it much more supported. I haven't tried a TAP setup yet but looking forward to one.
Fumbling mag pulls is 'JV' man! The 'FLiC' is legit gear if you set it up right and 'train' in it. Keep the front 'free' - use buckles not zipper and start pouches above the pant pocket position and work 'back' around the waist - reality may require a 'prone' position. The military came up with this for troops in 'armored vehicle transport' missions! Idea was to keep a 'fighting load' on your ribs/chest while 'buckled in' to the rolling IED detectors. Adjustable for wearing over the smooth body armor of the time. PCs have made the FLC obsolete but it still has underrated versatility and function.
For civilian outdoors recreation there's (hopefully) no need for a plate carrier and it still has a role. Could work well for boaters too, especially over a type I PFD for offshore types
Dont have much time to dedicate to a video on it right now with running my new surp shop on ebay (oblast militaria). What I would say is dont over think it, just find what feels comfortable and cinch it snug to your body
Can it be worn in conjunction with an ALICE belt? I haven't come up with a good way to add a pistol setup to my FLC so a belt is the only thing I can think of.
With the FLC, no. The LBV-88 had straps to attach an ALICE belt. I have an early MOLLE medic vest that has about the same real estate as a FLC but with thick shoulder pads and has straps for a belt but I don't know the availability of those on the market.
Maybe with belt keepers in the lowest molle row you could connect it to as belt. That woui ld open up a whole new terrace for gear and it wohi ld probably wear well if done right
Get a pistol belt extender/hanger that you can MOLLE onto the bottom of the vest and strap onto your leg. Works with the USGI M-12 flap holster for the M-92 Baretta or the M-1911 .45 ACP.
What Gerber knife is that? Is it one of the ASEK ones? Love the kit too, just set one up the day you posted it, might change around what I have to be like yours a bit, I like the Ifak turned admin pouch
I would rather mount your IFAK on the outside of the kit, so it can be found easily by your battle buddies if you're incapacitated from wounds, especially your CAT 7 tourniquet for arterial bleeding.
^ This. Medical trumps Map gear every time. Maps can easily be carried in so many other places.
Unit S.O.P. doesn't matter here. BUT, even if solo, hell, especially if solo, your IFAK should be accessible and clearly marked.
for the bottles, you can hang them a bit lower on the sides so they're easier to take out and put back in.
That's probably the most comfortable, practical FLC setup I've seen. I have 4 of them lol, still figuring my dayhike loadout lol
I almost went with an FLC before ultimately choosing the TAPS. I might still get one, you can configure it to be more like a chest rig as well. I think they're definitely slept on. A great minuteman setup.
That Filbe pouch can be replaced with either a molle II sustainment pouch or a molle II waist pack. Those 2 have more room than that filbe pack.
FLC, and most other modern LBE is high because it's meant to ride in. In a vehicle. For ground pounding, get a belt and H harness.

I actually use a dyed ACU Molle 2 ruck

I just bought 1 in DCU. Really looking forward to it and running it as a split rig. Don't know why I spent a fortune on 2 spiritus load outs

I would switch that admin gear to the inside pockets and move the medical to the IFAK pouch.
But you do you.
Picked up a TAP and an FLC at the flea market, $25 for both!
Nice job keep up the good work!
Very informative video thanks for sharing!
How is your knife attached? That looks very clever and I've had that same knife for years and never carried it.

Nifty
These are sold at my local surplus store for 25$ pretty cheap but good

There's tons of video out there. There's one by NATICK labs.

@ Imperial Bricks Depending on what pistol you plan on running, you can use the Eagle Industries Double Mag Pouch as a good “Field Pistol” Holster.

Gerber prodigy. Thanks man! Hope your enjoying the flc as much as i am.
Do you... period
Who made the nalgene pouches?
Eagle industries
