Q&A (I will keep adding to this list)
    Missing buttons
    - If there is a broken or missing button, Chanel can try to help you find a replacement from their archive. The price varies and they cannot guarantee that they will find one.
    Missing tags
    - If the size/material tag is missing, they most probably won’t accept your alteration request even though the piece is authentic. So take that into consideration before you buy. I have taken a jacket in with faded tags and they were okay with that.
    Missing chains
    - They don’t pay too much attention to the chains when authenticating the jackets. But they will not add the chain to the hem for customers.

Oh Winnie, I wish I could go to Hong Kong for alterations! Great video and so glad you share your experiences.
In Sydney they quoted me a minimum of $300 AUD ea to take in the side seams of 3 skirts - that’s $900! The seamstress said she couldn’t go to Paris to be trained by Chanel. She also said that the vintage construction techniques were too complex.
Two were not that complex I feel and aged 1995, 1998 & 2006. One was a heavy tweed which may have been a bit tricked. Not worth it in Sydney I must say.

I had the sleeves shortened on a jacket from 02 and it was $80. I also had them reinforce the buttons on some other jackets and it was $20 each. All were over 5 years old. I’m in the US. No garment bag given but hangers were given.

Here in Paris, they’ve never charged me anything. I don’t know if it is because I have been a long time loyal customer. I remember once the SA was debating with the manager whether they should charge me sth or not but eventually said it was ok.
There was even a pea coat from 2017 I took for alterations 4 times, since I’ve been constantly losing weight over the past few years, and they never charged me a penny and always seemed so happy to help me. It also usually takes no more than a week and sometimes you can take back ur garnement the following day. The only exception was during Fashion weeks. The seamstresses usually get so busy at those times that the waiting time will be between 10 days to 2 weeks.
Oh yes, last but important detail I forgot to mention, once I took back an old cashmere cardigan from 2007 for repair and the waiting period was much longer, around 3 weeks, but still free of charges. Reason: all the made in Uk or made in Italy cashmere garnements that need to be fixed have to be sent to the production units there. The seamstresses over there are the only ones qualified to alter or repair those type of fabrics.

Toronto store charged alternation, mini$150, size down could be$500. But if you buy from regular price, then alternation is free for loyal vip customer.

Hi Winnie, thanks for the informative video. If I need to get a button sewed back on my Chanel jacket, is this something that Chanel alterations can do? One of my jacket's button has falled off and I'm debating whether to take it to a normal alterations or to Chanel to get it sewed back on.

Yep, last time I got my jacket altered in HK Chanel shop and they gave me the hanger but however it didn’t work for my body frame and I ended up selling it in Japan.😕😕Winnie, you always have nice Chanel jackets😍😍

New subscriber, love your content and how you present it.
Burberry in Singapore asked for receipt when my sister needed to get a button fixed. Her expression must have surprised the SA as he apologised and took the jacket in. It was rather funny and that was many years ago, hopefully it is no longer the case now. đŸ€Ł

Do you have any idea how much it would cost if they charge for jacket alterations? Eg size up or shoulder pad change? Buy less is also my 2021 resolution.

    • @winniey3407
      @winniey3407  Pƙed 3 lety

I’m not sure. You may have to call them and ask 😊 I’m thinking around HK$500-800 for sizing up or down and $300-400 for shoulder pads.

I wanted to share my most recent experience at the flag ship Manhattan Chanel store to further help and ladies State side.
I brought in two skirt suits and dress so five total pieces.
I was told they will only do three pieces at a time so I chose the dress and one skirt suit as both the jacket and skirt needed work. The were sure to tell me that they would happily do the other pieces when I come to pick up the first 3 pieces I brought to them.
The one suit is a vintage set from 1991 so it’s 30 years old and they happily took it!
I was told I would have to prepay for the alterations which totaled $400 for the following:
The dress fit me beautifully but the shoulder pads were too big for my liking so I’m having them removed and thinner ones put in. Additionally the back will be pulled in at the waist a little to add to the shape as it’s a strait up and down shift style dress but I have a small top compared to my bottom so this nipping at the waist gives me more shape.
The skirt suit had to have the waist pulled in and about half way down my thigh tucked in.
The jacket is having the shoulders made smaller (bringing the arm up a bit, making the sleeves thinner and the body of the jacket smaller. The skirt suit was a size 44 and I’m a 36/38 on top and a38/40 on bottom so they took each piece in at least two sizes no problem!
I was asked as I was lead to the dressing room where I got the pieces and I told them honestly that they were second hand.
I just dropped these garments off today and will update my comment when I either go pick up my goodies or have them shipped to me as getting to Manhattan from Bay Ridge Brooklyn is a hassle at best. (The TRAFFIC is insane!)

      An update:
Chanel didn’t call me at the time limit when they said the items were due. I followed up and was told the items would take another month

They ended up shipping the items back to me once they were “ready”. The dress was altered perfectly but the suit was still waaay too big and clearly the work wasn’t done. I called and asked for a refund as the item didn’t fit. I was told to come back in and they would make everything right. So I tracked it back into Manhattan and they seamstress pinned everything again. I had to wait another month and again I wasn’t contacted when the items were ready. I had to call and follow up, which I didn’t appreciate.
Also they didn’t have me try on the items when I was at the boutique which I would next time ask to do just to avoid this issue again. It was like they wanted me in and out and gone. They did provide a hanger for each item and a garment bag.
I would be hesitant to do this again. My regular tailor is very competent and has worked magic on my entire closet.
