    Hi Amy, I'm glad there is someone else that washes their Chanel jackets😉. I have been doing this for years, I did ruin one jacket 😔(shrunk it, but it was my fault, no more relying on machines). Anyway, I only hand wash them now, and use the spin dry on the machine before hanging them to dry. I buy a lot of second hand Chanel jackets, and I wear all of them very often. I totally agree with you, it really gets rid of smells and the amount of dirt that comes out is scary. The jacket smells new and so much nicer than having tons of chemicals from dry cleaning.
    Another hack for getting rid of odors: My brother in law told me that spraying with vodka helps. He used to work in the opera's, and it was common practice for getting rid of odors on costumes. Thanks for your helpful video, take care🤩By the way I love your jacket 🥰, it looks fantastic on you🤗

      Wow amazing!! Thank you for letting me know I'm not the only one. I also read that vodka helps so that would be something I could try in the future :)

    I cannot believe you washed a Chanel jacket three times with vinegar and lemon juice. This is literally blowing my mind!! 🤯
    Amazing.
    Didn’t you think it would be less risk to consign the jacket and at least get some money back? You took an incredible risk, but obviously paid off 👏

      @FashionablyAMY  Před 8 měsíci

      I agree it would be less risk yes but I would never want to sell something unless it is in tip top shape. Everything I sold in the had always been perfect 😇 Anyway my jacket is almost perfect now (4 times so far)!

    I've washed viscose dry clean only items and wool in the washer the following way: put the garment in a mesh bag, wash in the delicate/handwash cycle (make sure to use the NO SPIN setting) with a delicate soap such as woolite; I repeat: make sure to use the NO SPIN setting). At the end of the cycle, the item will be soaking and really heavy with water so I usually fold a towel and place the item ON the towel to absorb the ocean of water. I then use another towel on a dry clothes rack and gently lay out the garment to dry. It works wonderfully, but I do it only with items that I feel I could risk (and the no spin cycle was a lesson....). Again, if it's a truly, truly expensive and/or very treasured item, take it to the dry cleaners. I do this only with items that "I can risk."

      Thank you for sharing!! Correct, that is why I don’t love fabrics such as the likes of rayon myself and try not to buy it so much 😅

    Amy thanks for this video! I have several Chanel jackets which over the years I steamed cleaned myself twice a year with a professional streamer (no dry cleaning) and that keeps the jackets looking new; but was thinking wow I can wash it to refresh it without chemicals. And I have one preloved with faint but still annoying stale perfume smell. So it did it!! Jackets came out great...colors brighter fresher. My jackets have similar composition as yours. I probably would not do it with mostly wool.

      That is awesome! I'm so glad to hear more people doing this themselves and getting great results, and yes better than getting chemicals and the hassle of bringing to the dry cleaners when it's not always necessary.

    Sometimes it is best to give an item a week in between the vinegar soaks and washing as that will drastically reduce the amount of times you need to wash it. The garment needs time in between treatments to rest and off gas

    How do you find washing the Hermes T-shirts Amy? I have recently added the H pocket T in a brick / rust colour and even hand washing cold in a mild detergent the colour runs. I am so disappointed. I recognise it is dry clean only label but surely it’s not beyond their capability to make a cotton T-shirt that is colourfast… 🤨

    • @FashionablyAMY
      @FashionablyAMY  Před 8 měsíci +1

      I washed my Hermes t-shirts just fine Sarah. But mine are not brighly colored like yours. Sometimes it could be because the detergent is too powerful but I do recognize that this is disappointing and I agree Hermes could totally have made them machine washable esp for the simple cotton tees. Dry-clean only clothes are annoying and you are indeed taking a chance by washing them yourself :(
