Today's video features the iconic Chanel jacket (2-pocket) from the Spring-Summer 2017 Collection (DataCenter). We are exploring it's 8 main characteristics/secrets of what makes a Chanel jacket, iconic, prestigious and so much sought after.... vintage or new!
The 8 characteristics/secrets of a Chanel jacket are:
1) Round collar / collarless
2) It's braided trim all around in different colors than the jacket itself
3) Buttons have the CC logo (front or back of the button) or leaf, or lion head, or the perfume bottle
4) 4 pockets (2 at the breast area/top and 2 at the lower part of the jacket). Pockets have a button each
5) Panelling construction - Chanel wanted women to wear a functional jacket that fitted each woman's body and measurements perfectly and the option of adjusting it in the future.
6) Silk lining that bears the camelia logo, CC logo and the Chanel name.
7) Fabric can be anything from a combination of tweed, cotton, wool, nylon, silk.
8) Metal chain on the inside hem of the jacket - its color mirrors the color of the buttons (gold with gold/silver with silver). The chain helps weigh the jacket for a perfect straight hanging.

Thank you for the informing video. Does Chanel boutiques do alterations? I have a jacket in the closet for many years, it is a 2005 cruise collection which belonged to an aunt. Would love to bring it out to use it but it needs to be taken down 2 sizes, 38 ton 36.
Hello! Thank you for your kind comments and glad you found the video informative. Yes, the boutiques do alterations as well as the big department stores that have Chanel boutiques/RTW concessions. I would strongly suggest that you give them a call first to ensure the seamstress is available to see you when you take the jacket in. There will be a fee for the alteration but they will tell you how much it will cost once they assess what needs to be done. Good luck! Happy to answer any other questions you may have! How much is it?
Hi, this jacket retailed (in the UK) for circa... GBP £5000! A classic is always worth it...and can also be found in the second hand market at reduced prices. The classic jacket always retains it's value. The more seasonal designs that Chanel makes every year as part of the various collections, are equally expensive but they don't retain their value as much.
