  • I talk about the brackets I make to convert late model torsion bar front suspension GM trucks and SUVs to coilovers using my bracket kit. I have been selling these for years and they work great. No welding required and work with factory lower control arms.
    See my website at www.atomicfabandperformance.com, look me up on facebook, or shoot me a message at atomicfandp@gmail.com and I will get you taken care of!
    I said "Transfer case is in the way" in the video, but I meant front diff. You know what I meant ;)

    I just finished mine today. I kind of did it in reverse. Same end result. Torsions come off in the am after a pot of coffee and Dunkin EXTRA EXTRA. Black Acrylic rust oleum. and never dull those bolts. OH MY GOD MAN! I painted the shock mount bolts Spectacular. I did replace a passenger side mount bolt to a 4”. Had more than enough room. It would have haunted me. I just wanted to thank AFP for a product that works. Burnt up 2 25 buck bits and a 1/2 can of blaster. Penny. All because of You Tube and AFP. IM IN Orlando. Don't know if your still active on here. But I've got a 1991 k3500 that I want to put a 2 speed overdrive in..... problem is that I saw today.... the overdrive moves the trans and transfer case back 7 inches.... thus putting the transfer case right in the cross member for the torsion bars.... so after some cussing and head scratching. I had the idea of swapping to coil over suspension in the front...... killing 2 birds with 1 stone... over drive can then go in. And ride will be a little nicer....
    My question is do you have anything that will work with a 91.... as I don't really have the time to fab up a good set of mounts....

    • @atomic178
      @atomic178  Před 3 lety

      The stock UCA is usually fine, but some guys upgrade to the cognito one. The droop stop is a good indicator of where the other front end parts are at their limit, so be careful circumventing that or cutting it off. If you are hitting the droop stop I typically say you need to lower it a bit or install a lift kit that drops the LCA and front diff.

    Can you verify if this kit would be compatible with a 3/4 ton 4x4? I'm looking in to a set of Sway Away or Fox coilovers to complete the set up, as well as utilizing it for a mild lift (think "leveling kit"). Additionally, is there any stability issues or excessive wear introduced to the A arm bushings or ball joints? Thanks in advance for the reply.

    • @atomic178
      @atomic178  Před 7 lety +2

      Kyle, my lower brackets are not compatible with 1500HD or 2500HD trucks as the LCA is much different. However, you can still do this swap on those trucks by bolting the coilover shock directly to the LCA if you trust that factory shock mount. For the top you could use my 2wd mounting upper bracket that locates the the top of the shock and holds it in place while retaining the bearing style top, or use the procomp shock adapter which works but isnt as clean or strong. I have not heard of anyone having increased wear.

    @Atomic178.
    I just purchased the full kit but ran into a problem with a 3 inch leveling! I noticed that the lower brackets are not flush with the Lca and since the arm is at an increased angle, when I turn either direction both brake calipers hit the bracket a lot resulting in no brakes. The only solution was to go to a lower leveling kit, which is very frustrating because I was hoping this kit would work. Any tips help at this point, thanks

    • @atomic178
      @atomic178  Před rokem

      What control arms are you using? If they are the oem ones I have seen the turn stops get worn down such that the calipers may hit. They should not touch under normal circumstances. Easy solution is to weld a washer or 2 to the LCA to make sure it stops it at the proper spot before the caliper hits. Also send me a picture of your setup to atomicfandp@gmail.com and I may see something else.

      Larry Adams the issue is with all of the other front end stuff like tie rods, CVs, ball joints, etc., and not just the suspension. The easiest way is to do a 3" body lift with your current height to get the 9-10" you want.

      I would, but I don't have a 88-98 truck at my disposal to mock off of. From what I have seen their LCA is completely different and I am not sure a adapter bracket like I make would be the way to go.

    • @atomic178

      ultrarare pepe I only recommend up to 3" without a "real" lift because after that all your front end angles get terrible. Things like CVs, ball joints, tie rods, etc.

      @atomic178  Před 2 lety

      Maybe, as long as they use a 1/2" bolt and bearing width fits within the brackets. King/fox generally does not have a great selection of shocks in the length you need depending on your ride height. I use Viking shocks with my kit.

    • @atomic178
      @atomic178  Před 5 lety

      It is to convert the 99-06 torsion bar trucks to coilovers. The 2wd trucks have conventional coil springs with a shock in the middle (not coilovers), which I also make a kit for. If your truck already has real coilovers installed then it is not stock.
