If Rick ran the distance from the RV to Alexandria he really should've been able to outrun the walkers. He was probably sprinting and they just kinda hobble. We all remember in like Season 5 when the group was between terminus and alexandria and there were all those walkers behind them. They didn't think anything of it. They knew they were at a good distance so decided just to keep moving. It should've been the same thing here

I mean like they didn't do (at least enough) at the prison. I didn't understand the rush to open the gates. They opened at least 2 sets of gates while there were walkers at fences. That should never happen except for a ludicrous storyline. If anyone is or can be lured to the fence, take care of them, saving bullets. But, then there would be no unnecessary danger to force them through. I don't know the exact when it occurred, but if Maggie's sister and Carol are rattling the fences to lure walkers away from Rick and the gang, that is the indication Rick and the gang shouldn't be entering in the first place, and should be waiting and rattling the fences with them, until almost all walkers have been disposed of, and the backup is largely unnecessary. But no real life is at stake, so just throw them in for the drama.

+stalk8r probably didn't sprint the entire way, we aren't sure how far away he was from Alexandria in that RV scene, I don't know about you but I'd pass out if I had to sprint more than a mile straight, he most likely had to slow down a couple times.

Zombies in the show are not very fast, but after running a certain distance for a certain amount of time you tend to get tired and more slow. It is completely possible and makes 100% complete sense.
