He was the reason why I started playing bass back in 1975 and that shaped my whole life. Thank you Paul, I owe you!
I play guitar and this may be the reason I pick up a bass too 😭
10:55 the section on time feel is so great! This changed my life when I first saw this on VHS in college!
This upload is a gem. I knew Paul Jackson played upright growing up, but never heard him play straight ahead like this before. Him and Mike are absolutely slaying it!
Never heard his upright playing, but I also didn't know he cooked playing swing. Too: never heard Mike Clark playing swing.
@@rawdonwaller Mike is a straightahead swing cat first and foremost 😎
fucking incredible now i feel like the whole world needs to watch this... beautiful
This is wonderful - one of the most important and underappreciated drum and bass partnerships ever. Half of the things I know about bass were stolen from listening to Jackson with Clarke.
......and this time I'm stealing the groove at 27:50.
My goodness.. Mike's drums sound glorious!
I remember getting the VHS video of this in the early 90's. I wore that thing out, watching it almost every night after practicing earlier in the evening. Such an awesome rhythm section. I still throw Thrush on all the time.
Thrush

The main thing about swing is, .....It's got to swing, yeah

Pure funk expertise. Fit for gods.
I loved when I seen you guys play when your endings were a surprise even to both of you both fed and the audience super well plus other concerns that only privately only you would know but you made it work than dropped the mike with class and dignity and style politely! Funky all the way home we went! Great lesson thks forever!

Wow, check out that Yamaha CP-70! You don't see (or hear) those very often, and I'm not sure I've ever seen one in a jazz setting. Absolutely fascinating. Thanks for this upload.
Does any body know if that's Geraldine????
These cats groove
Paul Jackson never moves his right thumb. Not even putting it on the E string. Interesting.
probably due to his upright bass background
The rhythm section of GOD!!
