Niether Jeff or any of the Jocks knew the ultimate solution. Strike a reasonable balance between the Music and Commercial advertising. Of course I know thats not the plot of the movie I get it. But all radio stations have to have some commercial advertising. Where does Jeff Dugan's salary come from? You guessed it advertising revenue. Same with all the other jocks and employees.

At the 38:46 mark, the recruitment sing & reaction are hilarious. I wonder if there was a full release. I know it was made for a movie, but it's catchy. 😂😂😂😂😂😅😅😅😅😅

Reminds me of local station,1970s, KDON, and how it was sold out until unrecognizable. RIP, all the great radio stations that represented the community vs Corp. bullshit (yeay you, Sinclair).

I was 10 when this movie came out. My dad was a famous D.J. and then program manager in major markets across the country. Terrible father and husband, but epic at his job of making local radio stations integral to the local communities. We had a very unique life and dad and when this movie came out I felt so validated and special for being a part of the magic of the music. My dad cared so much and helped make some great bands famous because local stations playing songs first or early were recognized for their part in selling gold and platinum albums. The ratings ruled our life. If it was great we reaped the benefit. If they were terrible, my dad might get fired and we were destitute for a time being.I got a lot of perks as a kid, meeting famous musicians. My mother spent her 30th with George Harrison. Of course, the substance abuse, womanizing and the fact that he was never home eventually destroyed our family. Now in my 50's I don't have the same charge over the terrible parts and am lots more inclined to look at the good parts. My first job was as a "board operator" (A DJ that doesn't talk) after school and on the weekends. Being in a studio with such incredible sound equipment, playing the Top 40 off albums that would arrive at the station every Friday afternoon was a really cool job to have in High School. I would sing my heart out the top hits. It is something that doesn't exist any more. A time long past never to return. The soundtrack to this movie is next level. SO much talent. Jimmy Buffet was just a kid! Seeing Tower Records made me cry. It was a whole scene...Waddy Wachtel and his endless guitar talent..just all the things here in this movie.

Great to be in that audience , quiet free form jazz . I love the synthesizer he has on his guitar and the little bit of that echo at the first , everything calmly under stated . Michael Brecker is a monster sax player who unfortunately died way to early , his brother who played trumpet is still with us I think . When they were learning their instruments , they played the hell out those exercise books , because when they played together it was a cutting contest , lots of velocity and both of them equally gifted . I'm sure they had a musical up bringing , their father was a famed pianist . The bass player and the drummer are first class musicians . So much talent and restraint .

This entire concert 🎵 needs to be officially released on vinyl, CD, DVD 📀 Blu Ray. The original vinyl from 1976 only has 6 songs from the entire concert 🎵.

Rest in peace Eileen Brennan and Martin Mull and anybody else involved with the movie who passed away.

If your movie begins with a bespoke song by Steely Dan, there's no where to go but down after that.

Back in '81 I was an extra in a movie with Martin Mull and he was a pretty nice guy. Then later on I played in the last Mark and Brian Celebrity Golf Tournament and partied and closed the bar down with Brian Phelps of Mark & Brian, Kevin Cronin, Ryan Stiles from Who's Line is it? and Christopher McDonald from Happy Gilmore. That was some fun. Being born in the 60's the 70's were the best times for me and music since music is what most people correspond to when they think of the past.

Why is the sound fucked in the beginning

I was in the Air Force when this came out in the theaters so I missed it first time around. The music is the Star here, and how it flows through the movie mostly uninterrupted. Jimmy, Linda and Waddy Wachtel are amazing, and all of the acting, for the most part is pretty good! Enjoyed it!

There's a section at the beginning after first song (FM) at about the 5min mark where all audio is gone for a couple minutes. Maybe a fix is coming?
