    I've been a fashion design student for 6 yrs now and I love watching different approaches to garment making, but the way you sewed in the zippper WHAT!!!!!! HOW HAVE I NEVER THOUGHT OF THIS, ITS SO MUCH EASIER, LIKE IT TAKES AWAY SO MUCH STRESS AND HEARTACHE..... GENIUS

  • @KathLady
    @KathLady Před 6 lety +85

    As a tailor it's interesting to see how you get your results. It reminds me of the way I learned to sew before my formal education in the theatre haha. That's actually a good message for everyone who starts with cosplay - you can learn everything by yourself. :)

    • @KamuiCosplay
      @KamuiCosplay  Před 6 lety +13

      +KathLady You can achieve any result. Even if the way to get there probably looks so wrong for someone who knows what they are doing haha :)

    I admire how you watched vids to attempt sewing your skirt for the first time. Of course you succeeded! By the way, my wife, who sews like a maniac (well, I should say 'maniacally' I suppose) always washes the fabric 1st to minimize shrinkage.

    • @KamuiCosplay
      @KamuiCosplay  Před 6 lety +15

      +hughesplanner That's a good tip! Thanks!

    • @ChiiSan09
      @ChiiSan09 Před 6 lety +9

      KamuiCosplay washing or cleaning any fabric you can before a project helps. It reduces shrinkage, it helps leach excess dyes, and it tests the fabrics durability. If it rips, it either was cheap or not meant to be washed. Also with furs it helps reduce shedding. Because a furry butt that isnt part of the costume is no fun.

  • @RegularRaven
    @RegularRaven Před 6 lety +6

    you make it look so easy kamui! when it comes to cosplay construction, i'm always afraid to even start because of the "what ifs" and "well, this could go wrong--"

    • @KamuiCosplay
      @KamuiCosplay  Před 6 lety +4

      And then all those things do happen and go wrong. "Murphy's law" and all that. But what if I told you it doesn't matter? What if I told you that we only get better because we make all those mistakes? :) Failing is just part of succeeding.

    • @RegularRaven

      Why should it be painful to create something?

    • @aring.6307
      @aring.6307 Před 6 lety

      I dunno. I just started cosplaying? and my world has been a mix of trying to sew, stabbing myself with a needle, losing the needle...and hoping my cat didn't eat it :/ It's just! All your cosplays are amazing and incredibly accurate, and the way you create them and talk about them it's like watching a dance or, Something i don't really know what it is. And I KNOW it didn't happen overnight and you worked Really hard for probably Years to get to this level of expertise! I just honestly wish I had your hands that seem like they are from some cosplay wizard. :/ magical wizard hands.

    • @aring.6307
      @aring.6307 Před 6 lety

      I'm still trying to work myself up to creating a "small semi-foam armor" project which was to make a set of abs to go on my cosplay. it's expensive and I'd probably only get one shot at it because of the pricing, I just kinda wish I can go like BAM like Kamui! Like you'd go 'Fake abs? Fuck yeah!' while I'm like 'Oh Shit, fake abs?! ' Kinda thing. I'm not upset or anything like that, I'm just trying to clarify that you're amazing pretty much.

    • @KamuiCosplay
      @KamuiCosplay  Před 6 lety

      I know what you mean. The thing is you only see a supercut of my successes on CZcams. Not the years I spent on honing my skills or even the amount of tries I had to take to make the thing you see in the video. I was exactly like you when I started. Fumbling around with no clue what to do. It get's better with every project however. Just don't expect to be super successful the first time you try it. Nothing worth doing is easy anyway. :) Just hang in there!

    • @aring.6307
      @aring.6307 Před 6 lety

      Hai Senpai! (ง'̀-'́)ง If u say i can then I'll do my fricking best! It's going to look fantastic! And I am projecting to the universe to make it true!
      wait a minute, just to clarify, um, it's possible to make foam abs look, like, okay on the first try? ( '-')

    Lovely costume!❤🐱 I like BOTH sewing and armor making videos! It's good to get the knowledge of how to create different kinds of costumes😁 love your channel! I have one of your books, will most likely get the rest in the future😉

    I can definitely see the appeal of choosing cosplays to suit the season!
    Would you say losing a bunch of weight has impacted your cosplay at all? Costume choices, reactions from others, etc?

      +chrisbinnie Hmm not really. I did a lot of skimpy stuff before too. :) I make costumes because I like them not because I think my body fits.

    I would love to see what you would come up with for Ruby’s crescent rose that can fold up... it seems tricky but I think you would come up with a fantastic job

    Cuddling Midna is the most important step. It would've all been ruined without her!
