    I've had a lot of trouble working with that first foam you used (the really soft one). I bought like 4 different knives, and even tried a surgical knife and I still couldn't cut it well. This video helped me so much! Thanks :)

      The softer the foam the harder it is to cut for sure!! We also struggle with soft foam sometimes XD i'm really glad that this helped a bit! :3

    So, these "tips" go far beyond cosplay, these are helpful in engineering foam solutions, shoe manufacturing, toys, building products, other consumer products so on. This is huge, because this has a tremendous amount of knowledge in a short 5 minute video. Like seriously... engineers and manufacturing facilities would pay good money to learn this stuff. THANK YOU!!!

    1:10 I thought this was going to be the dull cut at first. A little tip I can provide here is when starting the cut don't just drag it through like it's shown here. You're damaging the beginning of the cut. Instead saw into the very edge to get it started then pull it through.

  • @harmonyqueue
    @harmonyqueue Před 2 lety +71

    I have been using EVA for custom shelving in my cube organizers. One tip I can offer if you mess up a cut and end up with jagged lines or angles on your edges is to use a combination of soft sanding brushes (not the drum sanders!) and rubber or wool polishing tips with a Dremel at 15000rpm. The sanding brush will cleanly sand the edge with much better precision than the drum sanders since it's a mesh fiber. And the rubber polishing tip will friction melt large abnormalities, while the wool polishing tip will friction melt smaller ones. This takes a few seconds, but it allows you to fix messed up cuts and conserve materials.

    also, with contact cement glue, heating your seam can weaken the seam and even make it fail.
    for me, living in AZ, hot glue is a no no anyway as it will often fail over time in the heat.

    Hi Taylor! I really admire your work! I wanted to ask you, I primed Eva foam with glue and painted it and didn't like the result. Now I bought a heatgun and plastidip to make the results better BUT I don't know how to smooth the surface that was already primed. I don't wanna waste all the work I did cutting and gluing. Can I sand it? Is there a way to disolve it? Will the heat gun and plastidip all over the paint cover everything again so I can paint?
    Thank you so much for this tutorial and your beautiful cosplays

    3:18 use a stone bit for sanding and it will be much cleaner. If you need to remove a lot of material quickly, cut it off with a blade then refine it with a stone sanding bit, not a sand paper one.
