    Great vid, as a footnote for anyone with a new trek that has creaking sounds on suspension, start with a little grease on the cable routing through the rear triangle and also make sure the cable ties are tight on the brake and shifter cables where applicable. These do give the impression of creaking bearings.

    No. I sold mine. Tired of the chain dropping off the idler pulley even after the recall fix. Last straw was when the chain dropped (again) causing me to crash and injure myself. Keep in mind, my bike was looked over multiple times by the Trek shop that I bought it from and they said the bike was fine. They also installed the new idler pulley that was supposed to fix the issue. First ride in after the new part and it drops the chain again. Bring it back to the shop, they looked it over and said it was fine. Next day I go for a ride and it drops again. Bring it back to the shop, they replace the idler pulley (AGAIN) saying that should fix it. Go out for a ride the next day and the chain drops causing me to crash and injure myself. Worst bike I have ever been on. Keep in mind I have been mountain biking for over 30 years. Raced XC, Downhill and Enduro. Stay away from Trek.

    • @BlueSkyBoys
      @BlueSkyBoys  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Hey mate thanks for your comment! That really sucks, such a frustrating situation! Hope you are doing ok after the crash. We hadn’t heard of those issues but that’s pretty severe. We didn’t run into chain issues on our very short time with the bike but that’s possibly because of the softer dirt here. Hope you found a new bike that’s more reliable!

    • @NicholasBatten-cl7qw
      @NicholasBatten-cl7qw Před 3 měsíci +3

      From what I’ve seen, the redesigned idler is not available yet so idk what idler you were given. I’m a trek employee with the gen 6 slash and I’m still waiting for my new idler. If you were given a “new” idler and not a replacement of the same one, I would like to know what it is and how you got it so I could get one. I experienced a few chain drops at killington from big drops. After fixing via the service bulletin, I’ve yet to have a single chain drop after the fix. Even with the chain drops, I’ve enjoyed the gen 6 more than the gen 5 slash.

      Why so much hate bro I understand the frustration, but You kinda cant say " stay away from Trek " if sometimes only one thing doesnt work. And yes the fked up big time but It deosnt mean its a bad company. I Broke 2 two new Topfuel carbon frames last year. Got a new one still. Cheets

    How long was the ride? Did it feel like it was a challenge to pedal up things or is it ok to take it on long rides?

    • @BlueSkyBoys
      @BlueSkyBoys  Před 2 měsíci

      The ride was probably only 5 hours or so. Not noticeably hard to pedal but once the drivetrain gets a bit of dirt in it, that might change. There are probably better bikes for really long rides though!

  • @ashkonsenaati8530
    @ashkonsenaati8530 Před 3 měsíci +1

    How does it compare to the commencal sx?

    • @BlueSkyBoys
      @BlueSkyBoys  Před 3 měsíci

      We’ve not tried the SX. But compared to the Meta AM, it definitely rides like there’s a lot more travel. The rearward axle path makes it feel very different in the corners which you have to adjust to. I’ve heard that from a few people the first time they ride a high pivot. We would want to try a higher spec model to really compare it with James’ Commencal

  • @Gee-1979
    @Gee-1979 Před 3 měsíci +1

    I will say, the suspension and brake spec does seem a bit entry level. Given my 2021 Slash 8 has a Lyrik Select+ fork (one step down from Ultimate), and a Super Deluxe Ultimate in the rear. Plus the Code R brakes are killer as far as SRAM brakes go. They've been largely maintenance free since I did a good, proper bleed on them two years ago. Definitely gone down a couple levels on spec this year to offset the frame price I'm guessing.

    • @BlueSkyBoys
      @BlueSkyBoys  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Yeah compared to the previous years 8 models it’s quite disappointing. That’s a pretty nice spec aye. But yes you’re right it probably was to avoid it going up hugely in price with this new frame.

    • @BlueSkyBoys

    terrible Value in NZ, was on sale almost instantly - chain drop issues plus the poor value is such a shame. - updated idler is coming march i believe.
    I've ridden a friends 8, While it was pretty good, chain drops were an issue, He ended up being able to return the bike.
    He's glad he got to return as paid full price straight away and the value was extremely poor.
    the Fork warranty is interesting, I've had 2 of my last fox made forks make terrible noise(in last 6 months) blue shark NZ is also terrible to deal with, argue with everything.
