Paul power 4
4:00 - That was f*king beautiful to listen to
"The best guitar solos are melodies inside of tunes". That'll stick with me.
Echoing what everyone else has said here in that Tyler really seems to bring Paul not only out of his shell, but reminding him of why he does what he does. Dude is straight music through and through, and having someone like Tyler just be like "What would you play here?" instead of "When is this getting released?" has got to be refreshing for him.
melodies can stand on their own feet, and can walk around on their own while solos need to be carried by a rhythm section. Gilmore was a master at making terrific melodies and playing them as solos, PRS seems to be great at it also.
Agree. I could see Paul being so appreciative of this that he's the type that might give Tyler a new PRS just for having so much fun lol
"I haven't played guitar in so long" -- Guy who makes incredible guitars
Thirsty Fox Leo Fender didn’t even know how to play guitar 😳 he was a radio engineer who decided to start making guitars
When you own such a large company, you forget to eat at times lol
I can relate... I'm better at tuning pianos than playing them.
And then says it was right before xmas. 3 weeks ago. Not terribly long ago
Paul's tone is heavenly!
scabbedw1ngs Santanaish.
Right? Sounds great!
Agreed! It's as if the guitar is crying this beautiful sad song.
The tone kinda sounds similar to Brian May's i think.
Fair play to you for doing this. It's original and you can tell Paul is into it. He gets grief for being awkward and off in interviews but all the ones where he is fine, like this people are doing something different with him. After all if you're getting asked all the same questions for the millionth time you will get kranky. Great job dude.
I agree and it's spelled 'cranky.'
You're the first interviewer that Paul didn't noodle to while interviewing. Also first interview I saw with Paul being genuinely happy
BiGsTaM pretty sure it’s because this interview was more like down time for him. Something he’d do with a friend rather than being hassled about what’s new from PRS for a NAMM 2018.
Larry Taylor true
he did seems really happy there, true
This is how interview of guitarists should be like !
"I love guitar!" -Paul Reed Smith
So.... When can we expect the PRS Tyler Larson SE?
an SC with a green flame top and creme plastics! Can't wait!
PRS doesn't give signature models to artists as small as Tyler. They're no Schecter
I dont think that'll happen because Tyler isnt making his own music or writing it, thus he has no "personal sound" that people would like to go after in a form of a signature guitar. But he may find luck with smaller companies for publicity.
With a Danelectro body shape, and PRS headstock. But we never say the D word. 🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼Devil horn inlays. No birds. But they’ll look like birds.
i think this was. more like a desperate wish we all know the chance of this happening is insanely small
Paul's face when he zoned out to play, then came back to. Tyler you must feel so proud to be able to spark that fire in him! I think you just reminded him why he does what he does! Amazing video, dude! Greetings from New Zealand
For me, that was one of the most enjoyable 13 minutes video I've seen in a while! I loved seeing you two genuinely enjoying to play together, and it was cool to have a little insight on how he perceives the relations between intervals.. Really good stuff man ! I would have gladly watched 2 hours of this. And you could tell that Paul was left wanting more haha! I'm sure he's already looking forward to your next interview together! ;)
is Paul the Steve Jobs of guitars?
No, that should be the founder of Gibson. Totally uselessly expensive guitars, just for the logo.
nah, Elon Musk.
Michael Lastname nah, mate... I'm just probably the very annoyingly talkative dude.
Not probably, surely.
The same idea
jobs wishes he was that cool
i love how knowledgable Paul is! he's not just a master artisan, he's also a genuine music-lover!
You definitely do the best interviews with Paul Reed Smith that I’ve ever seen or heard. You two have a connection both personally and musically that’s cool to see.
we need tyler's signature model right fucking now
God i love seeing him with his guitars and my guitars 😅 but really this man single handedly turned the guitar market on its head in the best ways possible.
A national treasure IMHO
I've seen a ton of interviews with Paul and this is a real gem among them. This is the man behind the guitars. Awesome.
PRS with a PRS
Does he ever play anything else?
If I had access to any PRS I choose (literally ANY! Any pickup combo, Any tone woods, Any hardware and specs) then why play anything else?
This made me smile so hard. Im glad there are still companies,or at least one company, that’s run by a person,or people, that haven’t forgotten the point.Excellent playing Tyler!
This is what makes PRS guitars so good/special. The guy whose name is on the door not only still lives but actually uses and totally understands the product he's selling. Paul is a real deal great guitarist. And that is what a lot of the other big companies are missing.
0:15 "... We use bugers to glue the necks to the bodies..."
This is the first time I see him. Paul looks like a big daddy for guitar. Love his work with PRS.
"Save the root".
That'll probably subconsciously stick with me now for the rest of my life.
CPOMendez117 honestly, that's such a simple tip that blew my mind when he said it!
Well now you ruined it by making it conscious
Music Is Win...Dude Your One Of The Greatest Guitars Players This Time...I like The Play When You Go For Blues and Melodies Tune
Thanks Tyler for setting him up perfectly. You pretty much figured out what scale he was comfortable with and played chords that compliment it so he could just jam and literally remember him how much he loves guitar. It made him happy. Life goes full circle ma dude .That’s why you deserve to be one of their artists.
It's nice to hear Paul properly play and enjoy it for once, usually interviews about a new amp or guitar range. Awesome video
Damn!! Paul can play!! Not only is he an great mind behind guitar building but also a great mind behind playing!. This was cool
I got to meet Paul at his factory when my wife surprised me with one of the tours he offers. I had to have one of his guitars after that so I ran out and picked up a brand new CE-24. The man is awesome and his guitars are the best. Watching you play with him is great!
Funny, who would have thought? The founder and owner of a major premier guitar company who plays guitar. Refreshing. Absolutely all power to him.
Man it looks like u were in a dream there! This was one of the coolest thing I've seen in a while on youtube! Paul is a fantastic person! that sort of things that happen in life, you know. You and Paul. I know you very little, I just discovered your channel (and subscribed of course) but I would say that you deserved that moment. The work, the dedication and the will to help and be some inspiration for others. That's about music! Just two pal playing together, a pupil (way of saying) and a master sharing knowledge. Priceless video! I wish you all good things for the future man. And I hope some day I'll be able to play at least an half of how you play! :)
Great job Tyler. It seems like you really enjoyed hanging out with him. Hope he builds a private stock for you one day, that would be pretty sweet.
Damn your playing together around and after 4:00 is heavenly
I watched the new namm video with paul in it and im now on a binge with any video that has paul in it, guy is so full of knowledge and can explain things in the most simple yet spot on way. Such an amazing person on top of all that as well.
Paul, Iv'e been playing electric guitar for many years. You are an amazing guitar player. And, thank you for what you do. Thanks "Music is Win" channel.
Man, this has to be one of the best things I've seen in a long time. Great job. Awesome to see Paul just messing around.
You should be proud of this interview man. Love to see this side of PRS, especially at a place where he is in constant selling mode.
Not only one of your best videos, but I've got a whole new level of respect for Mr. Smith. Also, that MT sounds amazing.
That tone is unbelievable!
I love Paul so much, his passion for his artistry just bleeds out of everything he does
Profoundly interesting comment at minute mark 6:00 !!!
"I throw myself to the wind and just hope that somebody shows up and helps me."
Very, very illuminating!
One of the best interviews I've seen with this amazing gentleman. Awesome job.
I took three months of guitar lessons my instructor was a young dude with a prs and he could play and music theory like these dudes.
3:41 So beautiful! Another great video Tyler! Cheers!
Awesome showing, Tyler! Paul is a hell of a player and a damn great guy. He sat and stayed late at a clinic that he was attending with a few of his artists and shot the shit with me for damn-near a 1/2 hour.
Is it just me or do tyler and paul mesh really well... love the mt15 ...definitely a fan
Improvising guitars with Paul Reed Smith
Paul has to be the nicest genuine dude, I'm about to get my first PRS tomorrow
This has been one of my favorite videos Tyler has done.
PRS is not only a great guitar maker - also really cool player! awesome video!
Please - MORE of these types of discoveries!
Paul is such a humble guy... i just wish i could meet him one day
That was an awesome video! Everyone always asks about building guitars, you never hear PRS talk about playing guitar.
It took a while for paul to see where the young guy was trying to go. Very patient, that one.
Ahh, I always improvise. I'm never satisfied with what I finish with and always think I could do better than what I originally put forth on the table. That's honestly what guitar is a great symbolism with in my opinion. Make with what you know and do.
The best Paul Reed Smith interview I have seen. This was really great!
How cool is that! Playing guitar with Paul Reed Smith.
finally a good video from NAMM
yes those are cool , and many other channels have good stuff. but Tyler please, to go there and clown around like a 5 year old acting dumb around people is not cool. this one is music related great reason to be at NAMM
Geez I love these guitars
Great video Tyler. Very nice to see you and Paul having such a great time.
God I wish I could play with the master...
Tristan I was mostly talking about Paul but Tyler would be just as good
I met him last year, what an awesome man
I wish too, but first I need to learn how to play guitar!!! The time I learn, he surely be dead... But it's ok... then I'll play with the old Tyler lolllllllllllllll
Much respect for Paul, such a genuine person besides his "fame". Humble... awesome.
4:06 that was so Buckethead-ish. Perhaps that chord progression is used by him a lot.
Ameen Singh Yes man! Seriously.
Those bends sound the same...
Its really cool seeing you and your dad play together Tyler!
No matter who he's talking to, Paul never forgets to plug whatever he's selling at the time. Fair play too. He is a business man. However, this is one of the few videos where I've seen him genuinely having fun as well. Kudos Tyler for playing that chord game with him. He seemed to love it...
Well done! Tamed the beast with guitar. Best PRS interview I’ve ever seen.
This is a picture I always love to see: the Veteran and the Youngster talking shop :)
#givetylerhissignaturePRS
PLEASE PAUL
Yeeeahhhhhhh
Brilliant back and forth jam session...
This is so awesome. Paul seems extremely happy here
Paul has amazing tone.
Cool! I think this is the 1st time we can see your father
The man makes my kind of guitars and my kind of jokes. Tyler, this experience makes you one of the luckiest dudes in guitar.
i liked almost everything in this video but, Paul Reed Smiths bends is something that he need to practice, but he's old and he's a legend, so we can forgive everything for him
Best PRS interview I've seen Tyler.
I commented like only once, and I've been following you for a long time,I gotta tell you this video made me genuinely happy, like really, really happy, thanks for that
Saw the thumbnail for this video enough damn times finally clicked on it, really regret not having watched it sooner haha..Paul's a great player, great feel, hearing a lot of Jeff Beck vibes from both of you in this
Very nice playing by Paul Reed Smith!
Great playing and Paul is a versatile person.
Woe thats such a great video with such an unique concept - love it! Paul seems to dig it too - such a cool guy!
That was really cool. I like to see Paul geek out about playing too.
Paul is a great guitar player... Awesome.
That was amazing!
Definitely could much much more of this
How can someone so good forget that he can play guitar?
Man, you get to hang out with some of the coolest people.
Paul's guitar sounded amazing!
I really want to get into PRS guitars, because I like their tone, but their shapes never really did it for me.
Ever got to try one out? The feel of one may pull ya over :P Could maybe learn to love the shape haha. I love my two SE's
Dude got an 2017 SE Tremonti and I just can't put it down buy one just do it you'll fall in love with it the moment you play the first note
GoodGuyJamie I tried them out multiple times, but they just didn't feel good enough in my hands. I guess they're just not for me.
Someguy528 same goes my ibanez jem 555!
Just been loving it since I've put my hands on it.
Have you tried both neck shapes ?? I found the Wide-FAT on my SE245 to be a little bit uncomfortable for me. I've got small hands. But I tried a CE22 with a wide-THIN neck and I fell in love with it. Can't put it down.
Paul seems like such a awesome guy.
they sound great together paul tone is amazing
You lucky Son of a gun. You get to play with one of the best! Cheers to you Paul. Awesome playing! See you at Sweetwater Fest 2018!
That's just freaking awesome Tyler!
never been a fan of Paul, the old first impression thing, I almost didn't watch, this then thought "let me watch this and give it a chance to change my mind about Paul". The jury is still out but now at least I can start looking at Paul and the PRS brand with a little more of an open mind. Thanks
Such a Nerd, I love it, that’s why I like PRS more and more
man! you and Paul looks very comfortable together!
What a beautiful prs
I absolutely loved this. Thanks for making it.
Hey Tyler, does Paul Reed badass Smith have perfect pitch? Or just super badass relative?
if he had perfect pitch he wouldn't have to hunt for the root note of chords, he'd be able to pick it immediately. So I'm pretty sure it's just good relative pitch.
This was absolutley fantastic.
I didn't know Paul could play like that. That was a great video
made me smile, great job
A Guy that makes the best guitars and knows his music theory very well. Wow!
