Please Like, Comment and Subscribe. I am a professional landscape photographer with over 40 years experience, but I'm new to video so please leave a comment if you like or dislike what you see.
It was the photo of the dolman, that's what we call them here in Northern Ireland, and the gray skies that attracted me to your channel. We have plenty of them in this area. Along with gray skies! 150 gray days? I wish!
I've a feeling that I might be in good company here in terms of age. I'm 68 and now I've all this time to take more photos. I would like to sell a few prints and think that I can learn a lot from you. You need to relax more in front of the camera and be yourself. It's like taking photos, more you do it, the easier it'll be. Good luck with the channel.
Thank you John, you mean you get more than 150 days of grey in N.I?! Yes, we call them Dolmen too. Thank you for your comments; much appreciated!
IMHO (very humble) the color edits are on the “vibrant” side, like the computational algorithm in an iPhone. The black and whites are spot on tho
Thanks Outtathyme, it's not easy getting them right when it comes to different displays etc. I expect my website would show them in more accurate colours. But I do like vibrant, having come from years of Fuji Velvia film!
Grey is OK! Thanks
Thanks Dave, yes but don't paint your house that colour.
Always prefer colour personally, but love all of the photographs just the same! Top tips as well, thanks Tony!
Thank you Phil, your comments are much appreciated!
Grey Skies... So what! So agree with you on that! A good dancer does not complain about uneven crooked floor 😊
Thank you Interlapse, your comments are much appreciated!
@@tonyhowellcouk 😊Happy weekend.
Cheers. Your New sub.
Thank you In motion!
great tips and images! also helps when you've got a great subject like this
Thank you Brian, yes I agree. Your comments are much appreciated!
Brilliant subject and beautiful photos!
Thank you Lorelei, I'm not sure about the colour photos though!
Those images definitely look better in black and white, the textures just spring to life don’t they!😊
Yes Jess, think I might even delete the colour ones!
I enjoyed this video! I too am getting along in years and have been a photographer for 60+ years. Your images are great and your explanations are quite good. It’s nice to see a video that’s not a high production and all about enjoying the art of photography! Well done!
Thank you HarleyDoc, I'm trying to keep it real! Your comments are much appreciated.
Brilliant video. Thank you.
Thank you ManBike; much appreciated!
Great video and tips. thank you and love the images
Thank you Jim, glad you found it useful. Your comments are much appreciated!
I like the way you explain things.
Yeah, around here I have to learn how to make those grey days work too.
Thanks Rune, that's kind of you. Where are you from?
I am from an island in Northern Norway 😀@@tonyhowellcouk
@@PhotographyByRune Wow, bet it's good there Rune!
Yeah except right now I we are getting hit by one storm after another. We had orcano force winds for 2 days, and the bridge is closed, the roads are cut by avalanches, etc.
But hoping to get some good photage tomorrow. Only for the duration it s been dead calm during daylight hours, so no joy for a landscape
photographer....
hehe

@@PhotographyByRune I wish you luck for today then Rune, hope you get something good!
I like the moody black and white shots
Thank you Smooth, I prefer those too!
Thanks ....great video 🙂👍
Thank you Raimo, your feedback is much appreciated!
The thing about weather and skies is that there is usually always something you can shoot regardless of the whether (sunny, gray/rainy/overcast, or snowy). The key is to know WHAT you "can" shoot in various conditions. So for example, cloudy skies may be a great time to photograph streams and waterfalls, but obviously not great for sunrise/sunset (although it can sometimes be beneficial if the light is reflecting off clouds for example, but probably not totally overcast weather where the clouds are basically flat and there is no real detail, and it obstructs most/all of the golden hour sunlight). But again, knowing what subjects work best in what conditions (lighting conditions and even weather conditions) is the key, and why I think some people find great compositions and others maybe not so much (or it's harder for them).
Thank you H, yes I couldn't agree more!
Love this video. Sir, what is your ball head?
Thank you very much M Bailey, it's a Benro GD3WH Geared Head. All my gear is shown on this page - www.tonyhowell.co.uk/gear
More suggestions, stop doing this I won’t have time to try everything soon. Not tried Photoshop properly but really like the idea of blending images
Sorry Ian, I can't seem to slow down! Yes, I blend images quite frequently, it helps to get the best quality possible.
What head is being used on your tripod?
Hello WIlliam, it's a Benro GD3WH Geared Head. All my gear is shown on this page - www.tonyhowell.co.uk/gear 🙂
not that it is required to follow a color theory every time but greens and blues don't go well together .. it's just how it really works for the very most of people ... your shots are already "well baked" in postprocess (relatively far from natural look) so why not to shift a hue a bit for greens to yellow in this case or blues to magenta ..
Thanks for your comment Sigsegv. Will look into it; however I do like blue and green together normally.
Have you had any success doing a sky replacement in PS?
It's not something I believe in Ian. I did it on a Stonehenge image but declared it as a composite.
I knew you would say that! @@tonyhowellcouk
