Agree with you guys 100%. Homes are beautiful and well-built. Neighbors make this place though. Our neighborhood is filled with happy, successful, friendly people [like Linda and Jerry] and we felt right at home the day we moved in.
We’ve been residents of TV for 2 month and I’ve flown back to Ohio for a week during the months of Nov and Dec. I miss the familiarity of home, friends, feeling comfortable and the career I had of being a police officer. Friends say it will take time but often I’ve felt sad being here. TV is wonderful and everything you’ve spoken about has been spot on. One guest of ours called TV a college party town for retirees. I’m sure in time I’ll adjust.
I think there's a thing these days called Neighboritis.... where people are afraid to associate with neighbors too closely because they might either turn out to be annoying, clinging or just plain nuts... :)

I think it is easier to maintain good quality standards when you have tried and proven designers and contractors that know what the ‘finished product’ needs to be. We have built 6 new homes during our married life, and the construction at The Villages appears to be better than average quality with very little wasted space.
Thanks for the videos, Newcomers. I subscribe to a lot of different CZcams channels and yours is the most cheerful. That's particularly noticeable during the Year of COVID. Though I have not (so far) contracted the illness as far as I know, it has affected me via lockdowns and quarantines on two continents. So I appreciate the upbeat tone of your videos. Not many people can be positive even when they're being critical. You also changed my superficial impressions of the Villages.
Listening to your moving and purging stories brought back the bad memories of ours, and I can’t imagine condensing the time frame to 2 weeks! That’s amazing! I think moving when you’re younger is less traumatic..once again more interesting pov’s. Thanks!
Linda, that is why we did it when we did it. We just could not imagine that much hard hard work if we got 10 years older. We rounded up some very good friends and got it done. As we said, our rush job cost us some good stuff that apparently was sent to donation by mistake… but we got it done we're here, we're happy.
My husband and I moved into a condo almost four years ago and purged a lot from the home we lived in for 40 years. Like you I made several trips to the Salvation Army store, and we still brought several boxes of items we haven’t opened in our basement. Downsizing is always a challenge...what to keep...what to save.
My wife Janet and I are planning on moving to the villages after I retire in the spring of 2022. We live in Michigan and cannot wait until we can get out of the snow. We have taken one trip to the villages two years ago for a 3 night stay. It was wonderful and we had a blast. It was a short life styles visit and we stayed in the Atwood Bungalows new Brownwood Paddock. We have been watching you for some time and we find your videos very informative and fun. We have (my wife especially) has been researching homes and other things for months. She has really become and expert in all things villages. We are kind of targeting two locations, one is new homes south and one is pre-owned between 44 and 466 south. We kind of want to be between Lake Sumter and Brownwood. We have a lot to consider and a lot of planning to do. We have another visit scheduled for this upcoming February 20-27 on another lifestyle visit. Again, I think they are putting us up in the same area. So, maybe we will run into you, we would love to meet you. Thanks again for your great videos and keep them coming!!

Linda's current hairdresser did a nice job on the cut, and Linda is doing a nice job styling and working with it. You guys do such a great job on this channel; it's easy to watch. Other channels on The Villages try too hard. They don't stay focused. Anyhow - I've got to tell you that I'm mad. No, I'm jealous. Why? Because I turned two of our friends to this channel (two married couples), and can you believe it? They're calling to arrange a lifestyle visit, or whatever it's called. I said, don't you dare move down there and have all that fun, we will miss you. We've known them all our married life (45 years). It's going to kill me. (Now you know I've mentioned my husband says Florida is out.) So, yeah, thanks Jerry and Linda (sarcasm intended)! I had to tell you. They love your channel. They told my husband he'd change his mind, but he replied "no I won't". I'm still hoping that your line "never say never" might still apply. I just hope it isn't when I'm 80! I have a few compliments for you and a question. You both deserve many compliments. For me your videos are a welcome respite from a world that seems so upside down most days. I love it that you keep politics completely out of your videos. Your cheerfulness and positive attitudes are a delight! Those of us who have been watching from when you first moved could make our own video titled “15 things we like about Jerry and Linda videos!” Ok here is my question. A common bit of advice I have received from current Villages residents is to rent in The Villages for 3 to 6 months prior to buying a house. I can see how that would be beneficial. Do you think that is a good idea? Would renting prior to buying have made any of your decisions easier?
Thanks for your kind words, Brooks. We don't think we would have needed that much time to decide. The lifestyle visit pretty much sealed the deal for us. If you are overly concerned about weather, the longer you stay, the more information you would have to make such a big decision.

We have been here 6 months and LOVE it more each and every day!!! And St Pete Beach/Treasure Island is 85 miles away (about 1 hour 15 minutes) and we go at least once a month and LOVE IT!!
Just starting catching your videos, you guys are so cute and very relatable. My mother taught HS for 42 yrs and snow birds for several years. My husband and I had a home in Port Charlotte, loved it but sold it until we have more time to spend there. We’ll be sure to stay in WV during the summer to hot down there😅. I love watching the two of you. If I had the money, the Villages would be my place of winter living. This COVID thing has kept us away or we would be checking out places in Florida now. I too got rid of things I wish now I had kept. For instance Christmas tree decorations. I was pressed for time and made some bad decisions. But, I am retired and happily married, can't beat this! Love White Castle!
I love that TV is governed by an elected government and not an HOA!! HOA’s can be crazy! We lived that HOA horror for 13 years 1/2 miles from the Gulf before moving to TV 5 years ago.

I talked with family from the Midwest and it's below 0 wind chill. I will never miss that! So glad we moved to Florida! You are so right when you said life is short, enjoy where you live! Love these videos when you talk about what you miss, what you don't miss. How you like living in The Villages. What to expect. The storage space (there isn't any). And when Linda was talking about having stairs that go up to a 2nd room, but didn't say what style - I was waiting for her to say, but she didn't. There are a few homes here and there that appear to be 2 story and some of those will have actual steps that lead up to what could be rooms, or maybe deluxe attic storage.

Hi Jerry and Linda, I really enjoy your videos even though I could never live there. You seem so very happy so you certainly made the right decision. You have a beautiful home, a quiet neighborhood and you enjoy golf and seem to have a worry-free life. Everyone is different which makes things interesting. We are in our seventies but could’ve imagine leaving our cozy home in the country in central New Hampshire. I have the barn woodworking shop for my small home business,. We have a Wildflower backyard and ‘carefree’ front yard both of which are chemical free to encourage nature. I have a telescope observatory and like to tear down motors and cars, probably not allowed there. We have many bird feeders too. We love the four seasons, yes even winter as we have a wood burning stove and several cords of wood stacked outside. I dread that a time may come when I might become physically incapable of enjoying our small home and we might look for a more controlled living environment. Everyone has a different view of an ideal retirement situation. I really enjoy your channel because you are so at peace with your decision and your life is filled with all the things you love. Well, I guess I should get the Toro out to push back the snow piles (Yes I enjoy such tasks surprisingly).it looks like a rainstorm tomorrow though. Happy New year! I look forward to your upcoming shows in large part because of the obvious love you share and your enthusiasm for living.
Warren, that was a lovely comment. Thank you. It sounds like you and I are brothers from another mother, as I enjoy those things too. We had the daunting task of downsizing and thought it best tackled while we were able. As you said, the move was great for us. We had a wood shop to die for, a Japanese garden, a huge koi pond, and a house in the woods. All behind us now, with new things ahead! 😁😁
My wife and I have been watching your videos since you moved to The Villages and want to say thank you for taking the time and effort to share your experiences! We have been thinking about moving to The Villages prior to retirement since COVID has changed our employment situations to full-time remote which now allows us to live anywhere. After renting in The Villages for several months we have decided that although there is much to offer, it simply does not fit our lifestyle. We love our current home in AL but still wanted to downsize for retirement. We tried to duplicate some of its character in a smaller package while looking at resales in The Villages. However, from a lifestyle/comfort perspective, it was simply impossible. When calculating the cost-of-living and other financial differences between our current home and a home in The Villages, it simply did not make sense to leave a 3,000 sqft home and move into a much smaller home, lesser quality home that would cost more in the long run than what we are spending now.
I agree wholeheartedly with the message "if you are not happy with where you are, move! I spent most of my life in Detroit, Mi. then the East side suburbs and grew up during the wonderful fifties. When I became an adult, working and having to deal with the city traffic, weather, crime and attitudes for "many" years, I made a decision to move to paradise, the west coast of Florida. St. Petersburg, Tampa, the Gulf of Mexico. There I found my dream. Sunshine, warm/hot weather most of the time, the gulf breezes beautiful greenery 99% of the year, great restaurants and generally friendly people. Twenty Six, that's (26) years later that all changed. Yes, most everything remained geographically but now the area became a huge metropolis with all of the worst elements. More crime, more traffic, more visitors (feeling entitled), more accidents and more people moving in bringing all the bad habits that they had learned elsewhere. My paradise had become very uncomfortable at best. My wife and I made a decision to retire to where some of the old good habits still remain. Yes, some sacrifices where necessary. Not all of the great seafood restaurants are here and the weather isn't as warm all of the time that I would like but there is room to breath, the people have remembered how to say hi, open the door for you, not blow their horn when you don't immediately start at a light or show a hand gesture if you don't go 60 in a 45 mile speed zone. I am happy for you if you found the place that makes you feel happy. But, you are indeed in a bubble which is probably a nice departure from where you came from. I sincerely hope that you are just as happy 26 years from now. I do sincerely wish you well. We are now extremely happy that we left, the roaches, allergies, hurricanes, gators, rude entitled visitors and ridiculous traffic situation.

We have 3 sons in the military, so we have used Amazon pantry before. It is easy and a good way to get things mailed to them. We generally use the online ordering and contact free pickup at Walmart marketplace which is only a mile and a 1/2 from our home. That is perfect for us.

We abandoned dish/cable TV for streaming + antennae. For streaming, with your internet, what kind of upload/download speeds to you get. Plus, if you try to use an antennae in your attic, can you get a good over-the-air HD signal. Ours here in N Texas is a better signal than either cable or dish and for sure, a bit better than streaming.

I would love to know this too since if we move there we’d be moving across the country from all three of our adult children, who all live here in SoCal within 45 minutes to 3 hours by car. I don’t think I would want to live in TV alone if I lost my hubs, and vice versa for him. We are in our late 60s since hubs retired late. Married 43 years last February. 😊

We have been here 6 months and LOVE it more each and every day!!! And St Pete Beach/Treasure Island is 85 miles away (about 1 hour 15 minutes) and we go at least once a month and LOVE IT!!
You must drive fast! We know that people in Southern Oaks can save 20 minutes or more getting there! 😁😁

Just starting catching your videos, you guys are so cute and very relatable. My mother taught HS for 42 yrs and snow birds for several years. My husband and I had a home in Port Charlotte, loved it but sold it until we have more time to spend there. We’ll be sure to stay in WV during the summer to hot down there😅. I love that TV is governed by an elected government and not an HOA!! HOA’s can be crazy! We lived that HOA horror for 13 years 1/2 miles from the Gulf before moving to TV 5 years ago.

I talked with family from the Midwest and it's below 0 wind chill. I will never miss that! So glad we moved to Florida! You are so right when you said life is short, enjoy where you live! Love these videos when you talk about what you miss, what you don't miss. How you like living in The Villages. What to expect. The storage space (there isn't any). And when Linda was talking about having stairs that go up to a 2nd room, but didn't say what style - I was waiting for her to say, but she didn't. There are a few homes here and there that appear to be 2 story and some of those will have actual steps that lead up to what could be rooms, or maybe deluxe attic storage.
The model with an upstairs "bonus room" is called a Sarasota.

Hi Jerry and Linda, I really enjoy your videos even though I could never live there. You seem so very happy so you certainly made the right decision. You have a beautiful home, a quiet neighborhood and you enjoy golf and seem to have a worry-free life. Everyone is different which makes things interesting. We are in our seventies but could’ve imagine leaving our cozy home in the country in central New Hampshire. I have the barn woodworking shop for my small home business,. We have a Wildflower backyard and ‘carefree’ front yard both of which are chemical free to encourage nature. I have a telescope observatory and like to tear down motors and cars, probably not allowed there. We have many bird feeders too. We love the four seasons, yes even winter as we have a wood burning stove and several cords of wood stacked outside. I dread that a time may come when I might become physically incapable of enjoying our small home and we might look for a more controlled living environment. Everyone has a different view of an ideal retirement situation. I really enjoy your channel because you are so at peace with your decision and your life is filled with all the things you love. Well, I guess I should get the Toro out to push back the snow piles (Yes I enjoy such tasks surprisingly).it looks like a rainstorm tomorrow though.

We had the daunting task of downsizing and thought it best tackled while we were able. As you said, the move was great for us. We had a wood shop to die for, a Japanese garden, a huge koi pond, and a house in the woods. All behind us now, with new things ahead! 😁😁
My wife and I have been watching your videos since you moved to The Villages and want to say thank you for taking the time and effort to share your experiences! We have been thinking about moving to The Villages prior to retirement since COVID has changed our employment situations to full-time remote which now allows us to live anywhere. After renting in The Villages for several months we have decided that although there is much to offer, it simply does not fit our lifestyle. We love our current home in AL but still wanted to downsize for retirement. We tried to duplicate some of its character in a smaller package while looking at resales in The Villages. However, from a lifestyle/comfort perspective, it was simply impossible. When calculating the cost-of-living and other financial differences between our current home and a home in The Villages, it simply did not make sense to leave a 3,000 sqft home and move into a much smaller home, lesser quality home that would cost more in the long run than what we are spending now.

I agree wholeheartedly with the message "if you are not happy with where you are, move! I spent most of my life in Detroit, Mi. then the East side suburbs and grew up during the wonderful fifties. When I became an adult, working and having to deal with the city traffic, weather, crime and attitudes for "many" years, I made a decision to move to paradise, the west coast of Florida. St. Petersburg, Tampa, the Gulf of Mexico. There I found my dream. Sunshine, warm/hot weather most of the time, the gulf breezes beautiful greenery 99% of the year, great restaurants and generally friendly people. Twenty Six, that's (26) years later that all changed. Yes, most everything remained geographically but now the area became a huge metropolis with all of the worst elements. More crime, more traffic, more visitors (feeling entitled), more accidents and more people moving in bringing all the bad habits that they had learned elsewhere. My paradise had become very uncomfortable at best. My wife and I made a decision to retire to where some of the old good habits still remain. Yes, some sacrifices where necessary. Not all of the great seafood restaurants are here and the weather isn't as warm all of the time that I would like but there is room to breath, the people have remembered how to say hi, open the door for you, not blow their horn when you don't immediately start at a light or show a hand gesture if you don't go 60 in a 45 mile speed zone. I am happy for you if you found the place that makes you feel happy. But, you are indeed in a bubble which is probably a nice departure from where you came from. I sincerely hope that you are just as happy 26 years from now. I do sincerely wish you well. We are now extremely happy that we left, the roaches, allergies, hurricanes, gators, rude entitled visitors and ridiculous traffic situation.

You might want to try ordering food from Amazon Pantry, I find them super good and cheap;) Love you guys and your videos, Happy Holidays and Happy and Healthy New Year!
We have 3 sons in the military, so we have used Amazon pantry before. It is easy and a good way to get things mailed to them. We generally use the online ordering and contact free pickup at Walmart marketplace which is only a mile and a 1/2 from our home. That is perfect for us.

We abandoned dish/cable TV for streaming + antennae. For streaming, with your internet, what kind of upload/download speeds to you get. Plus, if you try to use an antennae in your attic, can you get a good over-the-air HD signal. Ours here in N Texas is a better signal than either cable or dish and for sure, a bit better than streaming.

I would love to know this too since if we move there we’d be moving across the country from all three of our adult children, who all live here in SoCal within 45 minutes to 3 hours by car. I don’t think I would want to live in TV alone if I lost my hubs, and vice versa for him. We are in our late 60s since hubs retired late. Married 43 years last February. 😊
