Rocky V has always been considered the black sheep of the Rocky franchise. Rocky Balboa might be the lesser known of the two but it's definitely more respected. Rocky V had the issue of having to follow up Rocky VI, one of the most beloved and classic underdog movies to-date. Instead of once again going bigger and harder, Rocky V opts to tell a smaller story. A story of falling down and getting back up again. The Balboas lose their entire fortune, Rocky can't box anymore and his son is being neglected at the worst time in his life. Rocky V is not the movie fans were looking forward to but I appreciate that it took some risks. They just weren't executed very good.

I'll be honest. It gets way more hate than it deserves.
It's like Halloween Ends. People went in expecting Rocky fighting and training and instead got a story about his kid and Tommy Gun. It's just too jarring for a final entry. This is coming from someone who didn't mind Halloween Ends and have settled down on Rocky V.
It was not the final entry
@@jamesmeechan6983 neither was Return of the Jedi...but like that movie, it was assumed at the time that this was the end.
@@jimbrown5091 ok cool
Sylvester Stallone himself gave the movie a 0. He knew it was shit. czcams.com/video/8uueiOX1Zxc/video.html 5:38
Im still stuck on Rocky's son ageing like 6 years between 4 and 5 when it's only been like a few weeks.
The earring makes him look older than he is
It's annoying but not really a huge deal. The Rocky movies and "time" has always been a problem if you think about it.
Rocky also said in 4 that it had been nine years since they got married, which was true in real life too. 2 takes place immediately after 1, which dropped in 1976, and 4 dropped in '85. Robert was born in 2, so he should be 9 at the oldest in 5.
I will be honest ... Rocky 5 holds a special place in my heart. I think it is the weakest movie in the Rocky series and I don't like how they handled some things. With that said, I was in a major depression when this movie came out. Mickey's speech, the Rocky theme and Rocky saying "I didn't hear no bell" really helped me to start a journey out of how I felt. I still quote to myself "I didn't hear no bell" when I face a major challenge and need to psyche myself up. While I recognize the weaknesses of the movie, I am grateful to the movie for what it did for me.
When i don`t feel getting up to go to work..I hear Mickey saying..Get up you SOB because Mickey loves you.
@@billkelly6292 ... I will quote that to myself as well!
Dude...how can you put Rocky V in the same category as the movies you mentioned in the opening? Rocky V is awesome 🤘
Stalone didn't direct the first Rocky either, it was the same director as Rocky 5
I love this idea of you reviewing classics and random movies. This one was great!
Good in concept, but done better in 6 and Creed
Very true.
6 is the worst
Rocky V should have taken place in space where the stallion fights for all humanity against aliens, what a missed opportunity
You must be thinking Fast and Furious
-No training montage
-No last battle in the ring
-No Apollo
How the f you call this a Rocky movie?!
I think something can be enjoyable without necessarily being good. Rocky V is a good example.
Na, it's good
Actually rocky 5 was directed by John Avildson who directed the very first rocky movie. Stallone only wrote and starred in the first and started directed at the second. Which all makes the failure of 5 that much more odd
Man the early 90s was ROUGH for Stallone. Not only did he have this horrible rocky movie. But remember don’t stop or my mom will shoot? Or Oliver… 😅
He’s lucky that he had demolition Man and cliffhanger a few years later because these were like near career killers
Rocky V grew into a cult classic though.
Top 3 in the franchise.
At least for me.
C'mon, Tommy, C'mon
Rocky V should have Rocky coming out of force retirement to fight Tommy Gunn knocking out Tommy in the second round retiring as world heavyweight champion.
I'll have to add another touching moment with Rocky and Adrian after Tommy drives off and Adrian has to show Rocky how he's different than Tommy and that he should pass things onto his son.
I loved this movie 😆
rocky 5 is a good movie, i think the theme of rocky learning to take care of his family and being a father is great, but i do agree the way rocky got poor was kind of dumb
Beyond the dumb reason for Rocky losing his money, the director's cut is great!
I love the passion and the love to give to every single video amigo, love the channel I hope you get to a million sub
Thanks!
I love this! Just wait until I upgrade my membership and choose a good one for you. It might be the Crow. It might be the Emoji movie. It could be Mask of Zorro, my favorite film. Or it could be a Wild at Heart...
Rocky 5 makes Rocky 4 look like Rocky 1.
Sama as Rocky Balboa does for RockyV
@Steven E The first Rocky was the BEST, but 4 was the most entertaining. And yes, the soundtrack was gold. Admittedly cheesy, but it was the best tasting cheese you’ve ever tasted.
I think that was the point. Because 4 paves the way for 5
I liked it since back in the day. That fight scene outside of the busses is classic to me.
Tony Burton didn't play George Washington Duke, Richard Gant did.
Talia Shire couldn’t quite shake off her performance in Godfather 3 while making this movie. She’s more calculated Connie Corleone than Adrian in Rocky V.
5:55-5:57 Richard Gant’s character* Tony Burton is Tony “Duke” Evers, Apollo’s trainer
4:59
After defeating Max Schmelig, Joe Louis was an "American hero", but he died destitute; in fact, the country that he was a "hero" to was unnecessarily harsh on him. His "admirers" disappeared when he needed help for the most part.
Yo Adam! I didn’t hear no bell….😂
So what was the cash for? 1# Duke Washington convince Tommy Gunn to take a dive? 2# or to convince the boxing commission to grant Rocky a temporary boxing license?
ROCKY V doesn't even exist. It's so bad I won't even acknowledge its existence. It's the only one I don't have in my collection. "Go For It!" was all over the marketing for it when it came out. It was on the poster, in the song for the movie, and then it opened the same day as HOME ALONE, and it was "Arrivederci, Rocky!" Tommy Gunn was played by Tommy Morrison, the son of John Wayne's brother, Bob Morrison.
I’m glad you hit on Rocky kicking Tommy’s ass. We all love a good comeback in a fight, but seeing Rock get the chance to just throw down was awesome.
The first five minutes, following the recap of Rocky IV, that are very good. The moment when Rocky sits in the locker room and cannot stop his hands from trembling is very moving. It's been a long time since we've seen any sort of humanistic vulnerability in the character. From 3 to 4 he has been a wrecking machine who seemed to show little effects from the brutal pummeling he absorbed over 15 rounds. It's actually the one flaw in the entire series---his fighting method of just allowing his opponent to batter him without offering much in ways of a defense to ward off the blows. But I digress. When he is with Adrian in the locker room and he cannot understand the serious brain damage he most likely sustained in the fight with Drago I was hoping that the film might go off into a more serious direction and away from the cartoon silliness of the last two. But when they return to America he seems all better. But there has always been this inconsistency in the character where his intelligence varies when it best suits the story. Once Tommy Gun is introduced it becomes very predictable and we're just counting the minutes until that big fight between him and Rocky happens. There's no drama because we know Rocky will win. This is what made the first film so unique and I never felt cheated that he didn't win that fight with Apollo Creed. From the sequel onward it followed a pattern and never deviated from it, less it anger the fans who came to expect this outcome. Even if there was some setback you know he'd win in the end. It got tiresome after a while.
Def enjoyed this vid! Good Work
Rocky Balboa aka Rocky 6 is a much better movie.
"It's not about how hard you hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward."
I had a problem with no second opinion for the brain condition, and that Paulie getting duped into signing it all away.
Hey Adam have you've seen the Tulsa king?
"That's So Paulie"
Are you going to review “Thats so Pauly!” season one?
... I would probably watch that, sadly.
@@AdamDoesMovies of course. We all would lol.
I'm 33 and just rewatched them all, I don't think it's as bad as I thought it was for sure
"Up until Rocky 5, these movies have been fire. Complete hits. Everyone one of them upping the ante, upping the odds. Adrenaline firing on all cylinders."
Tell me you haven't seen Rocky 1 and 2 without telling me you haven't seen Rocky 1 and 2.
I'm sorry, what is wrong with that statement?
I just rewatched it on Netflix, it’s not nearly as bad as I remembered and actually quite good.
Love it. Used to watch this as a kid. Don’t know why.
The director of 5 is the original academy award winning director of the original rocky & he did the Karate kid trilogy though part 3 is horrible. He also did one of my favorite movies Lean on me with Morgan Freeman
My Rings in the Streets.
Not a bad movie but the weakest of the series! The “flashback” scene with Micky is the best scene of the movie! The closing song by Elton John is also great.
Maybe i need to rewatch Adam...for now i still have it ranked 8th in the series
It’s still the worst
Whilst I don't think it's quite the 0/10 that Sylvester Stalone claims it is, it still isn't good. The biggest problem I have was that it was just way too dour and depressing in tone. It's not the feel-good movie that all the previous movies were, and it just doesn't make for an enjoyable watch.
I'll take the good dumb fun of Rocky III and IV over this any day.
Only one thing to say: "GO FOR IT ADAM!"
The original’s Director returned to make V
I actually don't think Rocky V is that bad a movie. It's not as good as 3 and 4, but it's faster paced than the first 2 Rocky movies. The only thing I didn't like was the taking away of Rocky's wealth in order to put him back where he came from, but once you get past that it's a good movie. It's at least just as good as the Creed movies.
The Balboa movie is much better. 5 just seemed like some unnecessary plight for the character. The fight is okay but the only thing that I remember is the Don King guy
I JUST CANT SEE HOW AT ALL… Like i’ve watched it close and i just love it. always have always will, even with its flaws. the micky flashback scene, his after drago brain damage reality, him and his sons struggle, his som kicked a kids ads in the street 🤷🏾♂️ idk i dont see what people are talking about
Excellent Review

Underrated channel… and movie
Hated it the first time I watched it. Gotta say it has grown on me over the years. The street fights were actually happening in real life around this time. Holmes vs berbick, Tyson vs Mitch green. Could be the reason Stallone went that direction.
Cant wait for you to see Rocky Balboa dude!
I've seen all of them several times. My kids will be seeing it for the first time soon though!
I like every Rocky film to varying degrees for various reasons. Rocky V is by far the worst, but I still enjoy it as a guilty pleasure.
I saw it once and will probably never see it again lol. But fun review.
It would be fine if they left Rocky's son side story on the cutting room floor. Still prefer it over anything that came after because it's still old enough to remind me of a different time which still gives it a nostalgia factor. I'll never have the feeling for Rocky 6 or the Creed movies.
John Avildson directed the original Rocky film as well as this one...Stallone directed 2 to 4 and Rocky Balboa...but yeah this film is silly.
Rocky V gave us "RANTLERS!" so its existence is justified.
Good point .👍🏻
My rewrite of Rocky V has Adrian sat on a park bench when Duke Washington sits next to her. Adrian reaches into her hand bag pulling out a envelope full of cash and handed it to Duke Washington. As Adrian is about to leave Duke Washington ask her why she did it? Adrian says Rocky had to get his pride back!
Not great but a guilty pleasure and a good fight at the end. I love Rocky so much that even bad Rocky is enjoyable.
The speech from rocky 4 is terrible it’s like a foreshadow to rocky 5 writing. However, the speech rocky gives in rocky balboa to his son is one of the best speeches ever written in cinema. Also the guy who plays duke is not Tony burton.
NO!!! The mickey scene alone. ...the back to basics story works for me
The concept is solid. The execution not so much. That street fight is still classic though!
Plus Rantlers.
What about Rocky's brain damage cause by his fight with Drago? The boxing commission orders medical tests and the first tests shows he has brain damage a second test shows he hasn't got brain damage. The boxing commission votes and by a narrow majority grants Rocky a boxing license for his up coming fight against Tommy Gunn
So underrated. My only problem are those scenes that are in-between the locker room/shower scene with Adrian and I think up until rocky is in the bedroom with his kids looking at his drawings, there's clearly some overacting in those scenes and I hate it so much. It's mainly during the Duke press conference after they land.
The fans argument is bad, iron mike tyson got flat broke and didn't much from fans
This movie really grew on me..I never liked it before..It never made sense how Rocky could completely lose his fortune..He could of sued his agent for fraud..He could of did commercials..He could of did commentary for boxing matches..It just didn`t make sense that he would live in poverty..That aside..Rocky 5 is a pretty decent movie.
Rocky 5 was the worst but my favorite part thoe at the end when Mickey Tell him to get up but 5 was 🗑️.my favorite 2,3,4 the most
I can't really give an opinion on Rocky V.
I haven't rewatched this movie for ages.
"I didn't hear a bell"
It is not awful. Only dumb thing is him going broke.
I love Rocky V, it the closest to the original of all the sequels
One thing which many seem to overlook is that Paulie did NOT sign the papers, granting Rocky's accountant power of attorney, thus gaining access to his funds, which he lost as a result. When they go to meet his financial advisor the next day, he clearly says "The papers which Paulie had you sign.", meaning Rocky was the one who signed them off of Paulie's bad advice, without really taking much of a hard look at them it seemed. But even then, Rocky surely would have had ways to make back at least some (if not most) of the money he lost. I know he made none off the Drago fight, but he was a national hero after that, and should have been even more so than when he was at the top of his game in Parts III, and IV. Maybe it may not have been not quite enough to live a life of luxury, but surely could have made a decent amount in order to avoid he, and his family having to go back to living in the ghetto though.
I always thought the whole "I'm not a commercial kinda guy" was kind of a lame excuse from Rocky.
@@anthonyjenkins2001 I know really, as he both TRIED to do a commercial in Rocky II, and even did some in the third film! So why couldn't he do that in the fifth Rocky I wonder (despite his criminal past) in order to get his money back too? 🤔
@@freakyfornash I seriously doubt learning that Rocky beat up a few guys would've hurt the man's image or marketability.
@@anthonyjenkins2001 That too was a lame excuse if others were willing to hire him to do so in the second, and third films, but not in the fifth one however!
GO FOR IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I dislike all the sequels to Rocky, because unlike most movies, even blockbusters, that get a sequel, Rocky is in many people's top 5 for best films ever made. It was art AND popular. And the story was specifically about it does not matter if he won, because he turned around his life and found love. The sequels not only are not art and are bad, but kind of undermined the entire point of the great first movie. The sequels turned it into a product and a paycheck for the stars. Yay training montage! Yay fight scene against some "unbeatable guy"! The first film was not about that.
The movie wasn’t the best, but I loved the movie for showing family life and then being at thier lowest
2:24 hahaha
I've been rewatching the Rocky films including V which I haven't seen in over 20 years. Not quite as horrible as I remembered but no question it's the weakest film. Watched Rocky Balboa ( I really like that film) over the weekend and I'm thankful V didn't kill the franchise. I really thought it did.
Being honest, I really did like ROCKY V. It was kind of like the OBI WAN vs ANAKIN scenario. GWD was bad. But he was SO hilarious.
I stopped after 4. never seen any of the others.
I still haven't seen any...
6:34-6:51 LOL
Rocky V suffers from the Star Trek V Final Frontier syndrome. Meaning it was a follow up to a movie everyone loved. Even if you're not a Rocky fan you love Rocky IV
I don't understand the hate for this movie it may be the weakest in the series but I've rewatched it multiple times and enjoy it each time
I thought it was really good until the end
I like all the Rocky movies. Hahahaha even part 5.
Wayyy better than Babylon though.
hey 4 good movies aren't that bad for a franchise, not many franchises have 4 good movies ever
What makes you think Creed 3 will be like Rocky 5? Jonathan Majors looks like he'll be more of a threat than Tommy Gunn
Now the movie is released. The movie above average and really miles ahead of rocky V. Majors was good here as a manipulative villain and tho his career is now over due to the strangling case which reveals that his ex GF started it first. I wish he retires to the future creed project.
Rocky 5 and 6 does not exist in my headcanon
To me it's like a 5.5/10
It's the worst of the franchise sure but i don't get the hate. It's an ok movie
I'll take Rocky 5 over The Godfather 3 any day which came out the same year. 5/10
It’s not THAT bad!
I know a lot of people who like Rocky 5 including me
To me it has some good moments in it, but overall it is the weakest installment in the franchise.
Yes. But Rantlers.
That is hilarious! I have seen every Rocky movie except Rocky V
Don't be such a Fool
Already.
Rocky V is in my top 3 out of all of them.
Easily
Still not as bad as Catwoman
it sucks the first time you watched?
Stallone plays a parody of Rocky. Brain trauma does not make you act like that. LOL! This story also has more plot holes than swiss cheese. Paulie can not assign Power of Attorney to a lawyer. He has no authority to any of that while Adrian and Rocky are alive. And even if we were to accept that as plausible, the excuse for getting that document signed does not match up with the events of Rocky IV, because Adrian was never onboard for Rocky to fight Drago and stayed behind!
All of this was done to cheaply reset the environment that Rocky was in when Avildsen originally directed the first film. It doesn't work because it was not sincere in it's motives to advance the character. This was all done to appease the return of its novelty director. Its really a terrible film and turned Stallone's career upside down when the industry saw he was no longer serious regarding his last prized franchise after Rambo III underperformed.
Blade Trinity is indeed terrible…that said, X-Men 3 is an entertaining film…it’s not perfect…it’s not the best X-Men film, but the action was solid
Like Rocky 5, I’ve forgiven it a bit over the years. It’s just such a terrible follow up to X2
@@AdamDoesMovies
X2 is def better than X3, no argument there! 😂👍
Short answer: Yes. But is it watchable? Absolutely. Rocky Balboa is the greatest apology for a franchise entry ever.
