Typing a Letter with a Smith Corona Typewriter for ASMR, Relaxation (and Sleep?)

- I type a 4 page letter to you and whoever else might be watching using a 1940's Smith Corona Silent typewriter to help you relax, maybe experience ASMR, and sleep (if that's possible with this kind of sound). As for the "Silent" in the model name: I believe the typewriter has a noise dampening quality, which I think means you really only hear the sound of the type bars striking the paper and platen (roller), and not so much any other part of the machine. As for what I write about, it's a bit of a rambling letter on a variety of light-hearted topics.
The last time I did this type of video was 10 years ago back in April 2012. Geez, how time flies! I don't even recall what I typed back then. All I know is something bubbled up to the surface telling me it was time to do another one! I would like to do these more frequently, now that I dabble in character performances. Maybe Corvus or Margaret (two of my role-play characters) typing about their typical day at Arkham Sanitarium. Maybe a scientist from the SCP Foundation using or testing a typewriter that is an anomaly itself. Maybe someone in a post-apocalyptic world. Who knows! Maybe all of those ideas! But whatever I do next, it definitely won't be another decade from now!

11:49 the way the apostrophe lined up perfectly with the ding is enough to give me tingles.
It’s the world’s quietest Garand ping, with on-par levels of satisfaction. Noice.
The whole video is really relaxing but imo the most relaxing part is when you get to the end of a line and have to start a new one. Idk I think it’s the sounds the typewriter makes as it goes over to the start again lol. This as well as the correcting of the mistakes are just a great combo throughout. Great video yet again.
🥸
@@ravenitz fair point. My main point was all I had seen in that first 13 minutes or whatever was great. And considering the video style I made an assumption of how the entire video would be. Also all his vids are pretty relaxing so again safe assumption.
@@ravenitz there is a thing called… Making an inference.
@@ravenitz if the whole video is about type writing and they've gotten 13 mins in, it safe to say they're gunna like the rest, it's not like ER is gunna whip out a drum kit and start playing some deathmetal in the send half.

the errors in the video made it 10x better, it gives your work a raw, realistic feel that no one else seems to get.
thanks for everything!
I love that you can hear the “how did I just mess that up???” With every pause 😂
Love this channel, this video and this dude ❤
I named my typewriter, "The Silent Smith Corona," because the bell doesn't work.
That’s a great sound I ever heard, your video make me miss my grandma was serving our country as a letter man (I’m bad at english sorry), since 1943.
I can confirm, ER can actually read my mind, man i wanted a typewrite video for so long now, and the man himself has delivered!
I have one of these! I actually got it for my Birthday after watching a Documentry about Typewriters called "California Typewriter." It's a great watch and just very enthralling when you learn about the history and the impact it's had on people.
A fun fact for those who may not know: Electric Typewriters exist!
They’re basically what you get when you cross a typewriter with a modern computer keyboard, then motorize the typing bits! And yes, it had an exclamation point, along with just about every other symbol a computer keyboard had!
Everything on it is automated, the line reset to even being able to just hit an enter key! Of course you can still manually adjust using knobs if you want a more precise adjustment! Some models have a cute little “boot-up sequence” where the typing bits center themselves!
Of course, unfortunately it doesn’t have the classic bell ring when you reach the end of a line, instead replaced by an electronic beep.
And making mistakes on one is even more annoying, since it’ll beep at you every time you make an error. Probably tracks your key presses or something. Although given it’s so old, it’s built in dictionary is outdated and will yell at you when you type words it doesn’t know.
But in the bright side, and the coolest thing about it, it comes with a dedicated erase key! Can’t say for sure how it works, the one I inherited’s erase function doesn’t seem to work, but I think it would have automatically covered up the last thing you typed with something akin to whiteout.
Although it does seem a tad redundant since most would have came out when the PC was around, although my guess would be that it may have been cheaper to purchase one as opposed to a PC. Plus it’d be a mobile option, so I suppose it’d kind of be a precursor to laptops in a sense!
Watch Technology Connections' video on typewriters with a correcting feature. Very informative and it's really surprising how their erase feature works
This brings me back! My first ever ASMR video I watched was actually your typewriting video YEARS ago, it’s amazing seeing you make another typewriting video. This knocks me out 🥱😴
I love this! It’s so fun watching and listening too the paper zoom back to the start of the next line. I watched a video where someone wrote out a letter recently, and there were a lot of cuts to keep the camera frame on the right spot, but this must have been easier on you since the typewriter moves everything for you while you can stay zoomed into one place.
It's nice to see (and hear) the return of the typewriter. Gives me a warm feeling and helps me to drift at this late hour. I'd support more videos like these in future, especially with weird results.
This is so incredibly relaxing, and the visuals of watching the dialogue be typed out throughout the video just adds to the vibe😇😴
Typewriter ASMR is the best! Genius as usual 🤓
Eye relaxation too!!! AWESOME work man. I looove typewriters, thank you for doing this. 🥺
I have a collection of seven total typewriters that I use regularly, I just love everything that's mechanical lol
Your typewriter video from like 9-10 years ago is how I first found you. The asmr feel is till there.
10 years after your first typewriter vid u finally make another one god bless
This was such a relaxing watch! Especially loved the end, how it felt like watching a live stream, where the live streamer doesn't want to end the stream just yet, and kinda go off on one more ramble before saying their final goodbyes for the night. Until next time!
It's so surreal how the way you write things is the way you talk. I could hear your voice saying this. The way I type and the way I communicate with my tongue are completely different in tone. The errors were the best part :)
The sound of the typewriter is so beautiful!
Thank you for posting the video!
Always will remember watching your first typewriter video years back. Amazing to see what content you've made since then!
its actually insane i was literally thinking of some type of typewriter asmr the other night and here ER us with another perfectly timed upload
It's absolutely amazing and relaxing thanks for your work
This left me speechless, good video and idea I loved it so much!
I just love every single mistakes left shown in the idea. It has characters poured into it, as we're enjoying this presumably single-take long format video.
Thanks, ER
Also important to note that, in addition to the exclamation mark and the number one keys being missing, there was also no Prnt Scrn key in those typewriters. Not sure why that's the case...
That is a strange one for sure.
i have waited oh so patiently for this video
Oh... This really brings back memories of the good old days, were back to where it all started.
YESSSS. Saw the video 6 or 7years baack . Nice refresher
Wow this really unique and relaxing I love this
You da man, Paul! Love you, bro. Thanks for everything. I’m so grateful 😊
Such a fascinating video and your teaching of the typewriter.
I’m just here to relax and enjoy the beauty in front of my eyes
A few years ago, I saw a video where a professor giving a lecture had told students not to use laptops to take notes, as it made it too easy to write almost verbatim and not internalize the material. Someone decide to use a typewriter instead for giggles.
Always good to know how to setup your typewriter
Wow, this isn't loud at all! Those little metal "bzz" and noizes after each click sounds good
I love the sound of type writers this was awesome
The ideas in your description sound fantastic already.
Aaaah nostalgia at its best❤️💕❤️ awesome square!! 🇮🇹
Well, it is possible to sleep with this sound. I haven't made it to 5 minutes in and I'm already asleep. This is the 3rd time I'm sleeping with this video.
I love the sound it makes when you’re loading the paper in
I remember your Olivetti video from a long while ago, always nice to listen to some more typewriter.
This is probably the best audio you've ever published, in my opinion.
WOAH, THIS MACHINE IS BEAUTIFUL!!
Most creatives ASMRartist of all time. Every video is completely different and unique
I like how this goes back to one of his earlier videos with the Olivetti typewriter
This is by far the best type writer/typing video I have listened to so far, the sounds from this model are soooo relaxing, and the camera position really captures well the satisfying type impressions.
Wonderfully filmed
Oooo I love a good typewriter Asmr! Hope your day is goin well E!
ultimate throwback
I gotta say, you keep things really safely
Enjoyed the sound of it hitting the paper.
THIS man never ceases to amaze me ummmm imy laptop finished witing out what i was going to say WEIRD!!!
its strange how i watched your olivetti videos just yesterday and wondered if youd make another typewriter video, and here we are
it comes full circle
my first ephemeral video was in 2012 and now in 2023 my life is completely different yet there he is whacking away at a typewriter again
I probably wouldn't be here without all the relaxation and mental support offered for free for all these years, so I can safely say my success in life is also yours
thank you for everything, old friend.
Another God like video from a god like creator
Going back to your roots I see 😂
It’s been a damn long time since I first saw a typewriter on this channel
I just watched your older type writer vid a day ago, Im fucking stoked theres another one!
Is this like Goosebumps though, where everything he types comes true?…
You finally found the right one! Nice!
Nice TypeWriter!! 🔥
Hi. Just wanted to say that your videos cure my anxiety & depression more than any therapist ever could. 🌹
I also have a question: Is it possible for u to write a short story or something like that on a typewriter?
Much love 💖
Buddy, the typewriter is just like a keyboard. you can easily write a story on it
@@generic_tough_guy.4830 yes i know that. I wanted to ask him if he could do it in a video sometime
Really like this video. Never saw this thing IRL.
The subtotales in this vídeo are just awesome
I mean If you do something enough times your get really good at it but it still amazes me that people could fire away at these with little to no errors back then.
When will he run out of ideas?! This is brilliant
This is good!
Honestly doing a Letters from Arkham type deal would be a good way to go to introduce smaller day by day type lore it also saves you time as your would just need hand coverings unique to each character.
After 10 years he finally did it
Thank you for making this lovely master piece
So first the drink then the thing i got like 8 weeks ago AND NOW THIS
This helped cure my headache
Amazing video😮😮
Perfection Uncle E
*perfection*
Could you also re-do the video of brushing on the typewriter and your hands? That's honestly one of my favorite videos you've ever done.
Ah this sound always takes me back to resident evil 4, when I was in a peaceful safe zone.. hopefully with a merchant just round the corner. What are ya buyin?!
can't wait for the remake :)
I love resident evil 4
@@SemperFine me neither :)
@@isaacg4511 me too!
That’s pretty good
Is it weird that I've listened to E long enough that I knew this was one of his videos without even needing to check just by the sound of the way he taps?

I’m starting to think that it’s not ER never running out of ideas that we have to worry about, but instead never running out of things to use!
wowowow i adore the sounds of this sm
like you could have just slapped random keys and called it a day but because u typed out a whole letter it sounds much better and more realistic
the errors are also very relatable and i can feel ur pain with each pause lmaoooo
Dang, ten years?! I've always gone back to that original typewriter video here and there: The tingles are still fantastic from it!
Stoked to see a modern take on it, and (as per the description) imagining Corvus using this is already making me relaxed. His voice plus the typewriter sounds seem like a perfect match!
Leon has been saving for a while
Different and good 🖤
This makes me want to get a typewriter of my own. I've always wanted to start writing because I feel like its one of the very few skills I have, but never really put any effort into trying. Being ADHD I am pretty easily distracted, so whenever I've tried to write on my computer my focus is always taken away by one thing or another. An alert for a new article, a ding for a new email, a notification for a new youtube video to watch. Or porn. Porn's been a big distraction in my life that I'm trying very hard to part from. I have an accountability program that keeps me away from it, but even being near the computer can make bad thoughts come up. It's like being near the gates of Disneyland. Sure I have the gate and the watchmen to keep me from getting inside the park, but its hard to keep your mind off Disneyland when you constantly keep coming back to the gates.
Perhaps having a typewriter somewhere away from the computer will be good for me. A manual one like like this, too. No power, no distractions, just me, the clunky, clickety keys, and the page, far away from the gates of Pornland. I've no idea what kinds of keyboards are good though. Guess there's only one way to find out. Time to start looking!
Reminds me of the one ten years ago
I used to have a typewriter when I was younger.
I wonder where it is.
I hope someday i get my typewriter and spend my last days writing about the past and the good days gone where i was thinking about get a typewriter to write my thoughts in my last days. Greetings from Chile
I saw the title and thought : "Great idea my man !"
This is so relaxing tbh *clack clack clack clack clack*
wow
real cool

Lego typewriter asmr: my dream video
Hey ER, since your a king diamond fan, what are your thoughts on the mercyful fate tour that’s coming through the US?
This one's good
26:00 to 26:30 is amazing
Oh so THAT'S why you use an ink ribbon in Resident Evil.
the "wtf" at 38:00 is so damn funny for some reason lmao
I wish he would make an asmr vid with a fully suppressed .22 rifle with subsonic ammo and a variety of metal “gong” targets. The click clack of the bolt sliding back and forth, the hollow patter of empty brass bouncing around and rolling on a hard concrete floor, the subtle pings and bongs of the small and large steel targets being struck and swinging to and fro, the plasticky snaps of magazines being inserted and released, the satisfying cachunk when the charging handle is pulled rearward and the cathunk of the spring driving it forward to lock in battery, and the all important snickety snap of the safety being activated and deactivated. All viewed thru a pair of yellow safety goggles on the camera lens, the sunlight is flickering brilliantly off of the glittering golden brass. He could call is the AsmR-15 video. Dang; i love me some manly ASMR.💪🏼
