And as a woman who has severe pain during her periods, a lot of times I find myself rolling on the floor & crying outta pain with the feeling of puking, pooping, peeing, fainting all at the same time, having period leaves would be really helpful. There have been times when my male colleagues had to escort me to hospital as I was having excruciating pain even after having pain killers.

    • @ranjana240
      @ranjana240 Před 4 měsíci +21

She discussed this, sever pain would be categorised under medical leave and medical leaves are provided for.
Also, discrimination is a thing. Even without men knowing we are in cycle, they judge our behaviour and say we may be PMSing. Imagine the case if they know the actual dates. Imagine the judgement that will come by when you miss periods (which is so common these days due to most women experiencing PCOS).
Also, she’s right on the fact that married women/ mothers don’t experience excruciating pain. It’s the young girls. In which case it’s generally hormonal imbalance, sometimes genetics.
As someone from the Talent community, I know enough corporate managers who hesitate hiring young women assuming they’ll go on maternity break and their teams will not get enough support… there’s so much of discomfort and judgement around hiring women returning from Maternity breaks, there’s judgement and prejudice on promoting women with children as the companies or men above feel that the woman will not give “enough” time to work since she has kids… it’s all too biased and discriminatory even now with all laws.
This leave policy does no good.
If they really want to help any women, or even trans community, it has to be in terms of providing sufficient support in terms of hygiene and security, expulsion of pink tax.

Also severe PMS symptoms like abdominal pain are considered in medical leaves in most of the companies… in current scenario you just don’t have to share that it’s because of menstruation… You can’t even imagine how sometimes people get so comfortable to poke the nose in other people’s life… I remember once I was feeling nauseous at office and hence took a half day and later my colleagues were discussing that I could be pregnant…. Can’t even imagine taking “Period leave” that’ll be first approved by my TL then manager then the HR… thinking about it only makes me feel uncomfortable…. Periods differ from person to person, as well as cycle to cycle. I do agree in the current state of affairs, menstrual leave would definitely lead to more discrimination and resentment. But this is because of the regressive mindset of most men and women who still treat menstruation as a hush hush topic. There is no awareness on the physiology of women, though the menstrual cycle is taught in schools, it is strictly a academic exercise. In many families the men are not aware of the cycles of their mothers, sisters etc. I think not addressing this issue and just accepting that we dont need laws that accomodate womens physiology is not the stand our lawmakers should take.

I dont know man ...being a women I really feel that nature hasn't created us an equal to men from the very beginning. Its better to accept that.. if men got periods this leave policy would already got implemented as majority of men are working in all kinds of sectors. Whenever some problem arises to the minority it was always been a debate. I wish god had created women equally or he wants to show everyone whether periods, pregnancy, pcod etc these strong women can handle every fucking problem. Nowadays the lgbtqi has become a minority so issues are being raised. We should never compare the scenario from the old times when some women who worked never raised this paid leave question bcos talking about periods openly itself was a taboo at that time. Its really stupid to compare things with 19th-20th century times. Slowly issues like sati pratha, girl child education, post partum depression, dowry were raised so in my understanding this is a valid issue In my opinion majority of the workforce has female HR so its not an issue if that women will get to know about the pwriods. Also one company doesnt have always a single HR person. A female Hr who is junior or senior in that organisation,a women should approach her for leave related things rather than a male HR. I am not being biased here I am just trying to find solutions. I just hope our whole country supports this cause and do not create a big deal out of this issue. Moreover, if a women who doesn't experience pain, IS HER CHOICE if she wants a leave or not. Don't create a barrier for other women to have leave who experience severe pain.

Let me put my 2 cents what is wrong with these kind of answers--
    1. She is in a constitutional position thereby question have to be answered in your known intellect capacity without getting offended.
    2. If a woman says she took paid period leave, that ,means society is mature enough to understand from where she is coming from and girls dont need to succumb in embarrassment for saying she wants PERIOD LEAVE which is so natural to women, thereby going with old age shhhh..shhhh.. thing
    3. Mr jha didnt said gay men.. its written LGBTQIA+ communities which includes lesbian, bisexuals, queer which includes women (one identifies with). So, what are the provisions for these people -- is it different or under the same policy crafted for women ? Question is this, simple..!

    • @soosoo599

Well, her response in the parliament wasn't derogatory...it answered Mr Jha's question, Also it was quite dumb for you to justify Mr Jha in your last statement...LGBTQIA+ community has women who identify themselves as men or whatsoever...so just because one identifies themselves as something else won't change his/her basic bodily function...So why exactly sir do we need special provisions? just to linger around such silly questions till eternity passes by?!

It was a non-sensical, non-utilitarian, nothing-burger question that leads to no progress other than earning some participatory brownie points in international leftist yaas queen circles, and so it was dealt with the dismissal it deserved. She clarified that (a) the desired legislature was counterproductive to women's progress in the workforce, and (b) was discussing issues already accounted for by current law - do you want her to add "aww lele bacha mera, mera babu" to her answer to make it more palatable? You saying that her direct response was her getting "offended" sounds an awful lot like sexist views on "unwomanly conduct" that expect women to be docile, non-confrontational and submissive at all times - just saying.

I personally have heavy periods and severe cramps where I can't even walk properly, but I am ready to take leave on my expense because I don't expect the society to understand or sympathise with my pain or problems!
But the rising prices of period products are just pathetic!!! Women are already considered a burden in society! Those 5 pads will only be used for two days in heavy periods, so we have to buy atleat 4 packets of those pads every month!!! Now you can calculate how expensive being a woman is, and it a BASIC NECESSITY!!!
You say beti bachao beti padhao!!
Raising a girl child itself is becoming so expensive because of such high prices! How is a girl who is considered a burden for her family and is not yet capable of earning for herself will be able to buy these products??
You have no idea about the humiliation and taunts that we recieve!!!
This is not even half of the problem that pink tax causes us!! Okay increasing prices on things that are a luxury is understandable but it's BASIC NECESSITY!!!

I am a man and not here to comment on the topic discussed but why we men atleast not everybody forget about their dignity either by commiting sexual assaults or some other violence. We say men are strong but a simple glimpse of a woman and in few cases men also makes some men to be out of control and commit dirty acts like rape equating yourself to a stray dog. There is no point in blaming others when we have limited ourselves to sex, unnecessary fights and dominance. Heroes don't have any weakness and are those who forgive others irrespective of how provoked they are. Everybody can fight but only heroes forgive making them unique. New definition to masculinity should be the warriors of help, hope and kindness. Thank you

Is there any other option ?
Can women pay other when they don't work ?
    All we need is management,

Now this in my opinion is toxic feminism. Why are we trying to be equal to men? Biologically we are different than men. Also, each woman has a different experience with their cycles, so some actually do need period leaves! And let’s not forget the discrimination felt when a woman takes a period leave as a medical leave in the office. It’s actually held against them. (Speaking from my personal experience) . So it’s the system that needs to be changed. The system needs to be designed to cater to women’s strengths. And no this will not bring disparity, but a rather work inclusive environment.

Smriti brutally trolled Brut for its conscious bias against certain govts. First the undying devotion to Mahua , then to promote Jha without providing context of his question because in no critique it was mentioned that the question was not intended for women but for gay men who don’t have a uterus to have a mestrual cycle. And then when they picked this Clip up which is a good 7 minute video and no one has the brain cells or patience to watch the full thing , they cut the video in such a way where Jha is seen in the Clíp first instead of them cutting it so that the first few seconds address that women do have a provision for medical leave because heavy flow and severe pain beyond teen years is a medical condition. You don’t need a work from home because it contradicts a “leave” and work from home is not productive at all .

Lack of knowledge about gender and sexuality, diversity inclusive mandate and appropriate sensitisation programs were asked to be formulated by superme courts and High court of Madras in various cases relating to gender and Sexuality, LGBTqia+ community inclusion in the society at various levels. This minister is lacking basic knowledge about this and blabbering nonsense. Unfit to be a minister for child and women empowerment and minority affairs ministry. She utterly Lacks of subject knowledge to address to questions pertaining to her department.

What’s the point of having women leader, if they themselves submits to ways of working created by men suitable only for men?
What’s the point you having a leader position in the name of representing women society and their basic needs?

It is shameful to see that administration in power doesnt speak on :
1.Rape laws , flaws in policies of women safety , what are they doing to make indian women safety better ?
2.child trafficking issue , pending cases on missing children
    3.pending cases on women rape
    4.wrestlers women issue
    5. New workplace and diversity laws , progress , how many women are working , how do we increase the women participation in workforce in both public and private sector
Any new laws , reforms , vision , results Vs promises in last 10 yrs in this direction
Layoffs impact on pushing more women than men jobless while all she is bothered about is bitching about the people who are not in power rather than being any truthful and answerable to public ...such shame on poor public administration in india

LGBTQ doesn't just have gay men to begin with and if you are so worried abt more discrimination for women why not educate men more rather than over explaining and justifying urself
