  • This is one of the trees I have worked on the longest in my relatively short time as a Bonsai practitioner. This video will show you the development the tree has made since early 2020.
    It has made nice progress and though it is still not a mature Bonsai tree the primary branch structure has been set nicely. The next step will be to let the tree grow and thicken.
    This tree cost 15 € when I got it. After what I have seen at Bonsai nurseries in Germany I am guessing it would sell for about 80-100 € now. (Just a thought)
    If you have any thoughts leave them in the comments. I hope you enjoy the video :)
    Make sure to follow me on my other social media accounts.
    I am happy about everyone who gets in touch with me over this most beautiful art form :)

      Thank you Alex! I think it’s cool that this was just a regular Bonsai from a hardware store and is now on its way to something real. Let’s see how far I can take it :)

      Thanks dude :) it still needs a lot of thickening up imo (most of my trees do actually). I have been drawing a lot of inspiration for this Ficus Bonsai from Bonsai artist Nacho Marin. I think his Ficus Bonsais are among the best in the world. It’s also cool to see how a 15€ (more or less 15$) tree can develop over 2 years

    Got to learn alot of things from your channel! Hope to learn more😄 as I just started learning about bonsai
    Can you please tell me why did you washed the soil and if i cut a branch will i get two new branches from the buds like a y shape?

    • @Bonsaifly
      @Bonsaifly  Před 2 lety +1

      Glad to have you :)
      I got all the black soil out by washing - free draining (non-organic) soil is better for root development.
      Generally you will get back bidding after cutting - if there are dormant buds :)

      @@Bonsaifly thankyou for replying 😁
      Btw I heard that if bonsai is in growing/developing phase like, if you want to grow a thicker trunk or branch and need lots of foliage, you should grow in garden soil as that will give thicker tap root and upper part of the tree kinda mimic the root system and when development phase is complete and you need thinner tertiary or secondary branches then you should use inorganic soil as it will develop finer root system and finer branches
      Idk how much its true as I just started out😅

    • @Bonsaifly
      @Bonsaifly  Před 2 lety +1

      @@maazansari6143 i would go for free draining soil from the start. It will develop finer roots, which then will feed the tree better

    Nice job David! You put a lot of work in this tree and the video as well. The tree should get a nice full canopy this summer.
    Did you also change something about the lighting?

    • @Bonsaifly
      @Bonsaifly  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks Stefan! This tree is one that I am particularly proud of. Not because it is very spectacular yet but because I can strongly see my own doing on it. I have already removed the wire since the last point of filming because it bites in very quickly on tropicals. I think it might not get another styling/repotting for at least 2 years (other than basic shaping). I am going to focus on thickening it now.
      I have not :) I just played around with color grading a bit. Some of my old videos were a bit "grey" so I am going to experiment a bit from now on to get the perfect lighting :)

    Why not use the bottom branch as apex and cut the top and make a much better tree. Ugly to begin with, but great beginning for taper. I do like your branch placement and may have used this as inspiration on my own tree 😁

    • @Bonsaifly
      @Bonsaifly  Před rokem

      Not making that cut, I don’t think it would improve the tree. However it does need to thicken, which is what I am working on right now :) glad it inspired you some!

      Hello Alain!
      Although I understand french good enough to have understood your message in the original language, I cannot write back in french language so bear with me in english :)
      I do not live in Southern Hemisphere. Actually, I live in western Germany, close to the Dutch border. I have learned how to keep tropical Bonsai trees in a temperate climate. I have put out a video called „how to keep bonsai indoors successfully“, where I explain my method.
      This tree just happened to grow really well in December 2020/January 2021, so I took the opportunity to create ramification :)
