    Great info!
My mom has a benjamina that started in a pot when I was a baby. It's now in the ground of her front yard, and 20 feet tall.
Whenever shoots grow from the lower trunk, I take them for cuttings.

I’m watching this now. I love this sharing information on ficus. It’s all the necessary info one needs. I personally would love to see many more like this.

You know what would be a super cool Ficus bonsai project? In India they have bridges that are made of woven aerial roots, as you may know. How cool would it be to put two Ficus on either end of the pot and make a bridge of aerial roots between them? It would obviously be a rather long term project but it sure would be something.

That would be pretty cool! Michael, will you be the first to try?

I would also recommend Ficus natalensis. It as also called the Dwarf African Strangler as it often starts life growing on the trunk.of another tree, much like several other ficus. It tolerates somewhat lower light and somewhat lower humidity indoors. It's leaves van reduce in size quite a bit as well. Might not be as easy to find as some other ficus but well worth looking for one.

Hey Jerome I have a tigerbark with some uneven taper in the trunk, do you think I could air layer a small tigerbark ficus in mid spring and once I see some roots go for the trunktop/air layer in early summer?

This is so helpful. There is alot of info on styling but so little on the best way to care for your tree. You mentioned there are exceptions on how you care for your ficus benjamina. Could you explain what those exceptions are?

Do you have any Austrian ficus species? Macrophylla, rubiginosa, obliqua are great to work with!

Here is a great question imo.
When using bonsai soil and a granular insecticide. The instructions say to put “x” amount in soil, then Lightly water for next 10 days. Of course, the instructions are NOT written for bonsai soil but rather actual soil. So what’s the solution here. If you can overwater standard black soil and wash out r get granular insecticide then what’s the solution for bonsai soil?
Especially, what’s the solution for mid-summer on a species such as this that you are needing to water twice a day?

    • @WeareTheBonsaiSupply

That is a great question Spencer.
Use tea bags, or fertilizer baskets to avoid the washout of the insecticide.

    • @SirSpinser

@@WeareTheBonsaiSupply Great idea.... I was specifically asking about Systemic Insecticide (Bonide Insect Control Systemic Granules) because the granules are so tiny. I don't think they would work in the baskets, but I never even thought about using tea bags for anything other than fertilizer. I will for sure try that asap with both the insecticide and fertilizer.
I actually did use fert baskets for the fertilizer, but the squirrels had other ideas. I tried at first using baskets the first few months. I actually purchased your Fertilizer a couple months ago and put it in the last 30 baskets I had. I probably have about 10 baskets left. So I went ahead and just sprinkled it.

Love the genus, but I don't like the trunk of the tree with you. 🤮 It reminds me of those god-awful S shaped trunks on pre-bonsai you see everywhere at the shopping malls.
