  • Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell tells "Face the Nation" that he's "completely recovered" and he's "back on the job" after his health came into focus this summer. The Senate GOP leader also said it is "a mistake" for his Republican counterparts in the House to separate Israel aid from Ukraine aid.

@@Treelakesun This is very true - It's a very good point to make!! I'm glad you said it. 🙂
I am afraid that the whole arrangement (the multiple conflicts) is one of the main reasons why people find it difficult to believe anything that a politician (D or R) says. I don't think it is necessary for politicians to share their personal thoughts with their voters 100% of the time. They are allowed to keep some things to themselves, just like the rest of us. However, working politicians are rather incentivized to lie or to omit the truth (even in those times when it's necessary for them to speak up) in order to remain in office.
I'm not sure what the answer is to address this issue. I'm just pointing out that it explains why some people get burnt out with politics. They get sick of all of the smoke and mirrors.

As much as I detest this man I have to acknowledge his political prowess and traditional GOP methodology. He is clearly in decline and if this interview was the best face he could put forward, he has not got long. My greatest worry is that someone from the new GOP, who takes greater inspiration from fascist ideology than the Constitution, will step into his position soon and the House's disfunction begins to take root in the Senate.

I agree. As a Republican myself - those who are on the alt-right fringe are frankly some of my greatest concerns for our country. Just as those on the alt left tend to do - the alt right continuously tars and feathers any and all opposition when it comes to it being their way or the highway. Respectful disagreement and the ability to compromise is one of the hallmarks of a democratic and free society, and politicians who are alt right / alt left hinder that process mercilessly. Unfortunately, the alt-right often labels Republicans that believe that our country is best served when different perspectives are considered, when our legislatures are willing to put the needs of the country first instead of their parties, and are capable of cooperating with each other in finding solutions - as
RINO's (which means, republican in name only). It's very frustrating and it's what is keeping our nation so helplessly divided and utterly gridlocked.

No one should be running our government at 80.
They should be playing with grandkids.
I get it….they have experience…it’s all they know…they dedicated their lives to this blah blah blah.
    Sometimes enough is enough.
Why not have like a “grandfather/grandmother” type system so that a new senator can be elected but is “shadowed” by an elder? Keep them around a year or so after they retire so they can acclimate to a life outside of government, still be able to “help” but not have the same obligations so they can care for their health. It’s almost cruel to see them still working or feeling they “have to” when it comes to one side or the other fearing what their absence would bring. Sigh. How did we get to this point folks.

He has behaved like a fool. I remember back in the day when he said his main objective was to make PBO a one term president. I don't like MoscowMitch.

I was at my folks house a few weeks ago & got subjected to broadcast tv for the first time in years. It was all ads for drugs. Every commercial break was drugs drugs drugs pickup trucks and then more drugs.
And then the news folks came back on and suddenly nobody wanted to talk about drugs. I want to know what drugs these politicos are on. Everybody i know over 70 is on some kind of painkiller regimen, what drugs are you on Mitch? Do they have a warning that you shouldnt operate heavy equipment?
If the drug alters your judgement so much that you shouldnt operate heavy equipment, you shouldnt be making political decisions either.

Rather than quit, I would like to see Mitt Romney offer Mitch McConnell a bottle of water and pledge clear solidarity. If moral clarity is the imperative, Romney is our guy.
