Dido Harding lost £28 billion quid like she'd lost sixpence. If Labour did this, the British press would have demanded their members of Parliament be hung. But since they are Tories, both the press and the electorate just shrug their shoulders and say Boris tried his best. Just as an aside, what happened to the other £9billion.

I spent the first 3-4 months of the pandemic making PPE (face shields) using a 3D printer that I bought specially. I asked friends and family to nominate a care home and buy the filament. I spent day after day, sometimes 16 hours a day making PPE. The PPE was specifically made to be both reusable and, when it did finally reach the final use, fully recyclable. The cost of the filament increased by more than 50% during this period, showing that companies like Amazon were profiteering from the increased demand. When the homes I supplied received their face shields, the staff were extremely grateful and would tell me that it was the first new PPE they had seen for sometimes weeks. Even then, the cost of the PPE they could order have, on occasion, quadrupled in price. the whole period was a free-for-all. I understand that the Western world likes to promote capitalism as the primary force for market pricing, but every Government has the power to freeze prices in the case of an emergency. Boris et al just chose to make a profit for themselves and their pals.

Great video Michael. We do need to keep reminding people of all the money that’s been siphoned off to Tory donors and mates of those that were in power. The irony of the Conservative Party as being thought of as the one that’s fiscally responsible. When you think of what public services all this would have paid for and, particularly during the pandemic, what lives could have been saved. When greed is king, nothing else matters. I hope there is at least a little justice and at least a little of the public money returned to where it belongs.

When I look back at the hoops companies like mine used to have to jump through, under EU rules, to win ANY government contract worth more than £50k ('OJEC', and later 'OJEU'), I'm staggered at the corner-cutting, lack of scrutiny and nepotism that is coming to light. Yes, there was an emergency, but really. Appalling dereliction, and apparently no consequences.

I am sure there was very little waste. A Scottish estate in the Highlands, a nice villa in Tuscany, with staff of course. Fleet of luxury motors, nice yacht for the weekend, golf course for hubby. Decent designer clothes in the nicest fabrics, expensive perfumes and not forgetting the best accessories your money can buy . Might have a few thousand ISAS , in the cat 's name of course. This kind of corruption will never be prosecuted.

Michael, thank you for another thoughtful video. £28,000,000,000 is a shocking amount of money to have spent with seemingly so little to show for it. When, however, you say "the government were just crewed" I cannot believe they were innocent of deliberate participation in the affair. The tories look as though they participated in the governmental version of the oldest profession in the world, receiving payments before providing the opportunities to 'service' their donors.

I was working the in the diagnostics industry in the UK during covid and I was on several calls with Deloitte consultants who were supposed to be managing things in the NHS that healthcare professionals supposedly did not know how to manage. Each call there was a new crop of consultants whom obviously hadn’t the foggiest clue what they were doing and they probably billed out their time at £1000 a day. Don’t even get me started on the Randox contract.

Another financial disaster (unless you are a shareholder) is the privatisation & profit-squandering of North Sea Oil revenues. When you think Norway’s sovereign wealth fund is over a £trillion (derived from a tax on every barrel). British fields & reserves are larger than Norway so where did all the largesse from our oil industry end up?
You guessed it. If you’re a large share-holder in BP (such as an MP or an aristocrat), you took all that money & didn’t give a glance backwards……
Another, the ‘Golden visas’ given to Russian oligarchs so they could launder money here without any fuss. All those Tory grandees did very well thank you for all ‘services-rendered’.
Yeah, meanwhile the working people get sweet FA. Ironic really when you consider where all the value in society is derived.

Michael, the way I remember it there was a functioning but "home-made" NHS tracing app that was up and running, and this was deactivated in order to clear the way for Dido's massive project of corruption and plunder. The ideology (odiology?) from Downing Street was as much to deliberately, politically sideline the NHS because it was a public service, as it was to give enormous sums to the private sector.
Which means that it cost much more than the 28bn you are rightly incandescent about. It brought about deaths among NHS staff and the general public. It cost lives, directly and deliberately.

The app - Ireland developed a good app and launched it much earlier than the UK's one. They then offered it, for free, to other countries and it was used by Scotland, Northern Ireland and some other countries and several US states. It cost €950,000 so not even £1 million. So why the Tories thought they'd spend £37,000 million is a bit of a mystery. Apart from the opportunity to hoof billions into friends and donors' offshore bank accounts.

I know this was an emergency but it looks like all accountability was chucked out of the window in favour of passing our money onto the tories' donors and friends. It MUST be followed up!

Companies Tax. Forgot to mention that one.
Basically a profits tax on large companies, successive governments chose to ‘ignore’ its existence.
No tax taken from booming profits over decades even though it is British tax law, backed up by statute.
Tens of billions handed over to rich corporates & bloated shareholders, instead of in the treasury where, by law it should’ve been collected.

Stepping back at thinking about this £28 billion and the £30 billion that Truss lost, combined it is greater then the entire UK military budget. Just think about it, the UK military costs less and people are saying we need to cut back on defense spending.
Another perspective is the UK in 2023 spent slightly over £15 billion on foreign aid, which gets entire segments on TV channels/programmes. The public should be horrified at the sheer incompetence of the previous government and their perceived priorities.
