O nly a guitarist of Chet's class could play an electric guitar with the Boston Pops Orchestra in the late 1950s and make it work. I, too, have always liked this one. Thank you for sharing!
There was in the earlier years a big band that played this song but I can't remember who but I used to hear it every morning before leaving for school. I love Chet's part when it goes from 4/4 to 3/4 time in the middle with Chet's mastery of the tremolo so sweet. I have found all the notes and harmony but could never master the so sweet use of the tremolo. I have my version also on CZcams under John Menuis. Anyway, thanks Chet.
Yes it is very lively. Thanks also for posting the album names. That drives me crazy when I like a track and I don't remember the album. That makes me head over to Amazon to find out what it is then I get in trouble cause I wind up ordering all this stuff LOL!
Good job, DaffyDoug!! I was wondering when you were going to discover some of the great and beautiful ballads from the Most Popular Guitar album and get them on your site. This is one of the best from that album along with the piece titled "It Ain't Necessarily So."
This is a cover of Hugo Winterhalter's 1953 hit also on RCA Victor. Chet does a good job on it, combining guitar & strings just like Winterhalter's original hit version.
Bernie Wayne was the jazz musician who composed this tune, and named it after actress Vanessa Brown. Hugo Winterhalter had a big hit with a cover of the song, which was recorded by David Rose & British big band leader Ted Heath as well. Chet's version closely resembled Hugo Winterhalter's version.
@daffydoug Sorry to hear about the financial issues and tax issues, but at least you've got a fiance and plans for a life in the mountains. I grew up in the Rocky Mountains in Utah, and would love to move back there have a mountain cabin as a permanent retirement residence.

By big band did you happen to mean Hugo Winterhalter & his Orchestra?
Or did it happen to be Pee Wee Hunt?

Love the fast-slow-fast set-up. It's like using cocaine, then valium & then cocaine again!!!
This is one of my favorite chet atkins songs and I can't download it! :(

all his songs with womens names seem to be the greatest
It's better to work around it somehow and download it- it's easier said than done; I know.
I guess someone got anal about the copyright for most of the rest of this album.
