Messing around with the controller deadzones imo is probably the most important changes you can make as newbie.
Agreed!! The defaults are whacky
I think they assume everyone with a controller has stick drift. Which alot do
I've been using default for 100 hours 😭 didn't even know this was a setting
Good video mate. I have been in simracing since 2020, and also play the most "hardcore" sims. In not the fastest by any means, but believe I've got the basics of racing covered. But it's always nice to see ins and outs of every game and how you always have something to learn.
As someone who has no idea about cars and racing, but just got the urge to play and try these type of games: thanks you, this helped me massively to get into the pretty intimidating thing of technical knowledge about racing games
This series is what I was looking for! Thank you! Subscribing and looking forward for tips of how to brake and turn e.t.c.
Great video dude! I'm not a novice in Forza anymore - but this video did a LOT for any newcomer!
Thanks for the tips Devon. The deadzones will def help with my turning.
Hadn't played a FM for a few years. Hadn't played a FH for probably nearly a year.
Stuck new FM today , couple hours in the bag. Super easy to pick up.
No assists, m&c, on controller.
By far and away not the fastest player you will meet for sure but I will give it to the game. Very easy to learn.
Will defo look at those deadzones though, feel like I'm noticing it in slow corners when running a more stock based car.
Keep these coming, personally, will defo be looking at all the tips you bring to the table
Great vid.. this Forza got me good in the sense that I want to become really good at it. So this intro vid was great.
I'm glad to see someone give propper coverage of the assists. As a blind driver, thanks to the blind assists, I'm really struggling pretty hard with steering, so I do the builders cup with steering fully assisted, but I try rivals and free play on normal steering, but honestly, end up frustrated because I can't tell whether I'm using too little or too much input on the steering, or the car doesn't seem to want to turn even when the analog stick is all the way pressed. I do really love the game though, and thanks to the blind driving assists, I can truly say it's me that needs to improve, and not the game. I just wish I knew someone that could give me driving pointers.
Bro you are crazy! The fact that you are fast blind is awesome.
I need this video series so bad! Thanks for doing this!
Thank you very much! I’m new to racing games, last time I touched a forza game was Motorsport 4 and the experience wasn’t great but am enjoying this game. The dead zone adjustment was amazing tysm!
Nice showcase man i understood it all and yes it helps me figure out tactics i love forza driving games all and this sports style makes you learn and drive like tacers do 👍
Great video. Looking forward to the next videos
Great video bro!
There is a small youtuber with a channel called Jonathan Burnham who is a top split driver online on a wheel. Pretty impressive, although I'd imagine the majority of top split are using a controller. Turn 10 did a really good job with balancing controller, wheel.
Very nice explanation that should help newbies on their way!
Very good and unbiased review 👏 💯🏁
Very informative 👍
Thank you very much for this helpful tutorial. Used to play a lot of F1 games. (PC player). But FM is a differnt ball game. It takes a lot of practice without a doubt. Adjusting the dead zones is an excellent start. To date I have about 25 hours of play. Very enjoyable so far. I took a quick peek at the multiplayer, for just one race and was totally annihilated first race lol !. There are some very skilled players over in that area, but I often wonder about the crazy meta tunes that are applied to the cars. It seems unreal for some of the multiplayer cars to drive at impossible speeds. Not sure what is going on with those tunes. Probably me though, lol !. I defintely need more practice so I will follow your upcoming videos. Many thanks.
Thank you thank you.
Lifelong Forza fan, but this one feels different. I want to seriously learn it
A good subject for it can help greatly. Thanks.
Holy Sh*T, JSR in the house!! They’re incredibly fast and all over the leaderboards
Good vid dude for all the newbies. Covers the basics people will need.
Are you from RSA?
Yeah but I live in Western Australia
Lekker, Devon!
Oh lord. It's been forever since I've seen you lmao. I've sent a clip for clip of the week and idiot of the week like forever ago in FM7. Glad you're still around 🎉🎊

I came upon this video after getting annoyed with getting a "Sim Twitch" like effect a good bit, all I play is X999 rivals with the AMR Valkyrie and its pretty dramatic in that car with my tune, I only have ~100 hrs so far and going back to Normal was a life saver, I played sim on FH5, so I just copied it over but it was a silent killer of perfect laps in Rivals thinking IM just trash, have yet to spin out like that since and consistently doing better with Normal, last night tried our VIR Full before switching could barely do a clean lap, broke found this video switched and got #64th within id say 5-10laps, it makes quick adjustments way more stable now and actually an enjoyable game, appreciate the detailed video!
For a second, I thought I was listening to a lecturer in tech school. A amazing video and explanation. Wonderful. Thanks
nice video, cheers
I've been playing Forza since the original Forza Motorsport back in the day & because I'm avarage at best driving, I appreciate these driving tips Guides, cheers dude, 😎👍👍
Thanks pal, exactly what I needed
More coming soon
@JustDevon brillo. Would love to see how you utilize the clutch manual gearing. Cant seem to get to grips with it
I just started forza, I understood what settings I was adjusting but was struggling to find the tune for controller, the 0-100 helped tremendously.
Glad to hear it!
About the same myself maybe a hair less in some areas but the defaults are whacky
I subscribed. Love this. I won a couple of games with my setting a BUT i need to get faster with a controller
Lol. Whaaat? I made the exact same oversteer-understeer joke just the other day and thought I was quite clever. Great minds, ne, great minds. Hahaha. Thanks for the comprehensive info, dude! I'm going to making use of it as soon as Turn 10 fixes the damn game
These settings are great. On the last Xbox I abandoned forza for GT due to the carnage online. I even got a wheel and everything, which I loved.
I thought this time around forza could be a good consolation prize with the safety ratings now that I only have an Xbox this gen. I just thought that playing on control could never be like using a wheel. That you can’t have those smooth inputs with a stick or a trigger. Turns out I was wrong, all those small inputs you can use to race smoothly now work on controller and this is almost rivalling using a wheel on GT, or has at least opened the door to the possibility of driving as smoothly as with a wheel.
Also, I always used to play with the traction control off, but this time I’ve had it on sport until today. Suddenly the game feels like it has that life back in it that I remember.
Hi, do you use a controller to play or were you only just showing us for this video?
I use a controller but am really struggling with my braking in this game. I have ABS on and traction control and Stability control both on Sport. So you think it would help more to turn all these off?
Pleasant surprise to find a South African 💪instant sub
Thank you for the insight! I'm trying to get used to manual shift.
going from automatic to manual is a big game changer, it can be a lot to get used to, but it pays off in the end
Yeah like the other reply said, its worth getting used to. Nothing will make a bigger difference to your times.
I was using clutch at first, but all lower classes have an insane clutch release time, so you redline unless you wait like a whole second to accelerate. It's too automated. Let me grind a gear if I want.
I also wish they'd program haptic feedback for the PS5 remote. It's the single greatest addition to a controller in my lifetime.
The issue I have with zero for throttle deadzone is the human nature aspect of pulling on that trigger, lol. I mean at zero, you breathe on the trigger and a high powered car is causing mayhem on every start and turn due to the need to over concentrate on the trigger itself. I upped it quite a bit just to compensate for that compulsion and it’s helped a lot.
Always been a shooter or ball sports gamer. This is first forza and i need this series because i feel like a grandma.
I come here as a sports gamer primarily and I also feel like a Grandma 😂 I bought a wheel to play it aswell such a steep learning curve
Can you make a tutorial on manual shifting with and without clutch? I've only ever used automatic in racing games but I want to learn manual. I just don't know what gears I should be in or when I should be changing gears
I got the same situation with steering mode
I think I am faster with simulation mode in practice and qualifying. However, in the race, usually with congestion and unexpected correction, I lose the car, and it is very hard to correct it
I think I need to stick with normal mode for consistency
Did you change FoV of chase cam or left it at default? Any recommended settings to get used to chase cam? Steering always felt heavier with chase cam compared to hood cam. I am trying to switch to chase for online because of the better view around you but having a hard time getting used to it. It feels "disconnected" somehow.
you may be better off sticking to the camera you're used to and just switching proximity markers on, they'll give you basically the same info as if you were looking straight at your opponent(s)
as for FOV, there are a few free online calculators you can use. You're supposed to measure your distance from the monitor, then input that and the screen size- which will then provide you the correct number for everything to be where it should/would be in real life, if you were looking from the POV of the camera
Forza is back Devon! When is the first idiots of the week coming out? Good to see you on the new game. PPS Lucky
I wish I learned about the a clutch button but I have learned the roll the finger trick for the clutch
thanks m8
I can think of one: The Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86 is in fact FR. The Lancia Delta HF Integrale Group B rally car had its engine in the rear.
Great video! I was wondering if you can or had gone over gear changing, especially with the 'new' clutch. Been using manual w/ clutch (controller) since fm3 but something feels off with this game.
I thought the same thing.. after messing around a bit with the clutch, i found engaging the clutch (off throttle), switching gear, letting off clutch and back on throttle. You have to do it in that order. It over rev if you try to do it all in one motion like previous forza games.
@@kingcobra_gaming Ill try that out. Its just so engrained in my head to basically press them at the same time. Even when i slow it down, i still get hit with the revs. its been maybe my biggest issues with the same lol
The video from Yann Larriau is explaining it easily
I'd like to add abit, granted I have no experience with Forza other then a store kiosk for the first game (*Cries in Old*) but I feel my suggestion could apply here as well: One good way to start weaning yourself away from the racing line for braking points is to use land marks. A braking marker, a pole, a Marshall's post, a piece of fence, whatever is the most visible to you when you arrive in that corner would be a good way to get a memorization for braking. It'll obviously vary for every track, but in a way its good because that then makes it easier to remember what corner to use what landmark for.
Also, I completely agree about the camera angle. As someone who is currently using a wheel, I usually stay the hell away from cockpit view because it usually never feels right for me. Use what you want because its what you want, not what some wack ass pack of weirdos wants you to use.
Great point! I'm using brake line only right now but instinctively have started to rely on objects on the side of the track to determine when to brake/start coasting because I get distracted by the line sometimes. I'm new to FM tho, but enjoying the hell out of it so far coming from fh4 and fh5
Great chris eubank impression
I shall be removing the pop filter.
Edit: this made me laugh, good comment, even if it's at my expense
Subscribed because of this video but also your response to this comment is pure human and humble.😂 We gotta laugh at ourselves sometimes. Keep up with the vids mate.
Im a noob so feel free to disregard or correct me on this but in my experience if you tune your brake pressure to anything under 100% your breaks will never lock on you idk if thats genuinely good or bad but it has helped me not lock up as much you just cant have the deceleration deadzone set to 100 in the controller settings because that will still lock your brakes up.
why my tires don't wear out in single race mode?
I adjusted my deadzones, turned off steering and braking assist and cut 4 seconds off my pb lap in the first grand oak multiplayer race
can you steer with the d-pad?
Description of tracks and what type of car is best would be rad
Are the cars much harder to control with traction and stability off? As a newcomer to racing games i took them off earlier and the car was spinning out like mad to the point where i thought surely there cant be this much diffiwith the assists off?
You have to spend some time getting used to being more controlled with the throttle, it won't be something you get used to immediately. If you just smash it down instead of doing it gradually, you'll not have a great time. I'd recommend just finding a track you like and maybe a GT car you feel comfortable in and just doing some laps in test drive. Also keep in mind the balance of the car, newer players tend to unsettle the car by coming off the brakes too quickly, or turning too erratically and this causes the car to not have it's weight over all 4 wheels, which is where you will have the most grip. A balanced car is a happy car
Manual with clutch in this game is now contingent on upgrading your transmission and clutch.
I disagree. Each gear change and nailed downshift now feel like and position gained. To me atleast. Seeing a 10% damaged transmission at races end means I sucked and need work on technique finger wise. However having
@@drunkpunk5393 He literally just released another video stating to upgrade transmission. Whether you agree or not, your findings are incorrect and my original statement stands.

I played forza horizon 3 when I was younger, then 5, now Motorsport but this is the first time I’ve played online and I suck need some advice
Same comment as 5 other comments:
I was hoping that you'd explain Manual with Clutch. I'm coming from FH5 where I'm simply pushing both at the same time and I've got a really hard time in Forza Motorsport understand how to handle the clutch here.
I just wanna know why all the red paint in my game shows up pink. I have messed with every brightness setting, color blindness mode isn’t on idk wtf to do. But it’s annoying.
traction on sport helps me be 3 sec faster on some tracks on forza gt class, but on froth wheel cars i just turn it off
Make a video for wheel settings please. I don’t play on a controller and I hate using controller in racing games like this.
Tuning help?
Anyone got an idea on how to fix 100% throttle and brake input on a Xbox controller??
Is that the old Forza 4 menu music in the background at 8:57? 😅
You’ll be slower if you keep using the suggest line. You need to be looking into the corners not the suggested line
You'll be surprised how many top guys use it, but I agree that becoming reliant on it is something to be cautious of
I can vouch for this, I find I go faster when I ignore it but i do recommend using braking line only entell you get use to how the car Handles and you can push harder then the line says then start ignoring or turn it off...but I highly recommend using brake line only the first time you drive a new car and only use the line for a idea of the speed to take into a turn
Common misconception. You should be on the line but not from steering. For example on exit you don’t drive up the line to the outside. Accelerating out of the apex correctly throws you to the outside.
@@badkermit180 that's true.......I use it more to gauge my speed around a turn rather then were to be around the turn
I have to rely on the braking lines too but if you combine it with looking at the corners more too, this will up your game a lot.
Yesssss teach me
are you from SA? or do you got an aus accent
i wish this game could implement geometric/ideal lines without breaking markers. so we could learn it on our own
thanks for the info. just a little question. Controller vs wheel, are the times per turn similar?
I tested it. Was faster with the Controller. And i normally Just Drive on Wheel. But overall i think If i take my time and get to know how i need to Drive with the wheel similar times should be possible. With wheel there is much more you can do wrong. In my eyes playing with controller ist much to easy and the game support the driver to much. On one hand i think its oK to make it easy and concentrate on the fun on the other hand i am afraid this designe decission create many PaceRambos.
@@sebastianberger746 Sorry man, thanks for your answer, I won't translate everything since I speak another language, but I can understand that your times are similar in wheel and control. Do you know if the people in the event at the ribals circuit (maply valley raceeay) use tuning as they do in the multiplayer? my time is 1:38.6
@@goldentimes7379 No Idea mate
@@sebastianberger746 ok Bro thanks
I don't actually think manual with clutch is faster this time around even when you're doing it right. I've always preferred having the clutch but this one just doesn't feel fun which is unfortunate because I like that it requires timing now.
Can you also cover meta tuning?
If I knew anything worthwhile about tuning, I could
Fyi, the mr2, or at least the last generation, is a fwd mid engine car. Had toyota made m it rwd, it might have sold alot more
I use a mini wheel on my controller, not perfect but I get a more smoother steering experience, on Amazon
Forza's chase cam overemphasizes the car's rotation and it sometimes induces me to counter steer mid-corner. I wish chase cam had an option to disable horizontal sway (like GT7).
I like hood cam, but without a zommed-in mini-map of players around me, it's very difficult to gauge space in first person cams.
It could be a nice option to have for those who like it, but I've always really enjoyed the sway, for me, it's just enough that the car doesn't feel stiff and not too much that it's comical
Where do you see where the cars engine is located? Lol I looked everywhere 😂
Oh boy it's "X-track" from Forza 3
how do i know if i’m using the clutch?
Go into assist and change it to manual with clutch. But Manual seems to be the better option to go fast.
I’m pretty quick (lots of top 50-100 times) and use far out third person and braking line. Don’t need either it’s just what I’m fastest and most comfortable with. Though I’d love to be a no line cockpit Chad 😂
I think people would be surprised how many of the elite players run the braking line
When it comes to cockpit or driver view, it all about practice and experience.....I find it's easier in this game then past games and the roads seem to be wider which also makes it easier
Some cars need Stability control in sport, otherwise off yea
A rear-mid engined hatchback would be the Renault Clio V6!
And the Renault 5 Maxi Turbo if I'm not mistaken.
Renault Clio 3l v6 was a mid engine, rwd beast.
I was just about to comment this! It’s a mid engine hot hatch that’s super rare
I'm. pretty sure the top-tier players are using wheels.
I use chase cam so I can see who’s behind me and so that I don’t bump into people.
That's the only thing I am loathing about the game. Actually really like hood cam but the radar in this game is ass so im forced to play chase cam ro not get penalties.
The hood cam is amazing though always lap faster with it in rivals

How can controller be as good as wheel? In f1 games they have good controller play but wheel dominates. Why is forza any different? I was big into sim racing but sold all my gear so ive been playing new forza with controller but can bet if i got a wheel id be 2 seconds faster. Its so much easier to be acurate and carve out a racing line
controller has normally been much better than wheel so FM8 having the wheel as decent is a relatively new thing
It's ashame Microsoft have no options for their top tier controller! I use an Elite2, yet can't map gear changes to the paddles! 😢
I have mapped it on my elite 2! You just change it in the Xbox settings rather than game settings. I use paddles for clutch and gear shifts!
🤦♂️never thought of that, thanks👍☺️

How do I make it not sound like a ps2 game? Also damn the graphics are horrible on xss. Doesn't make sense because FH5 looks amazing on xss and that's open world
Playing on Series X myself, and find myself playing in performance mode rather than performance RT due to dynamic Res softening the picture a bit too much, and introducing some nasty shimmering, plus RT is pretty basic here does not warrant the lower Res for me, especially since I'm playing on an 83" oled. As for the sound I actually think it's the best sounding Forza to date, there's a crisp in the sound that's not present in any other racing game. Also, playing on a Dolby Atmos system really bumps the immersion, thunder and rain sound coming from top channels really puts you on the track.
@andreasbone602 on the S we only have performance and quality mode, no rt. And both look like complete ass. Especially compared to fh4 and 5. For the sounds the only thing I don't like is the engine audio, it sounds extremely synthetic to me and I have Dolby sub n headset plus TV also supports Dolby so I'm definitely hearing it the best it can be. Everything else sounds great tho but then engines genuinely sound like a old racing game to me but with more complexity
For some reason my ps5 controller wont work on the microsoft version of this game. Any idea?
