    That breaker MUST!!! have been connected /linked to another Outlet that is being used already. When i Do big productions like this, i always Distribute the power. There outlets under the benches and on the side of them . I use every single outlet in the gym. I use Lots and LOTS of extension cords. and ive never Tripe a breaker. But hey it could also be the wiring of the building.

    Awesome gig log! I remember seeing this setup on your snap a couple weeks ago, and I was so excited to see this video uploaded today. Such a shame you couldn't use haze/fog. The majority of high school events I have done won't allow it either. Hope to see you doing more of these big production gigs they're quite interesting. I hope to reach that level of production someday soon!

  • @SonidoWAF
    @SonidoWAF Před 6 lety +1

    been watching your gig logs, and it´s really nice to see your progress thru no time practically. I also heard you saying wanting to start on big production set ups and shows, we´ll from my own experience I can tell you it´s way different from what you´re used to do, but totally worth it, for example, firts off you need to secure your power connection, and separate sound, lights and wahtaever else, say FX each on a single output, you use special equipment for that, what you experience on this gig with the amp was a too low ampere circuit breaker, that amp (crown 9000) should be connected to a 40amp (using 110v) circuit breaker minimun. But, you just need to learn this type of things and then lots of hands on work. Again, totally worth it! Great videos, & keep the record spini´n

  • @ThomasGrillo
    @ThomasGrillo Před 7 lety +4

    Thanks for sharing this. By the way, you really need to pay a visit to a production theater, and talk to their engineer about what they use to provide power for mega consumption rigs like this. I'm pretty sure you'll need to be going into a 27, or 30 amp, 240 supply, and then into a portable circuit breaker box, into a step down to 110 for the lighting, with appropriate outlets. You'll need at least a dozen dedicated breakers, some of which being for the high amp/voltage. That was an amazing setup. Well done! :)

    • @ninja1inblack105
      @ninja1inblack105 Před 6 lety +1

      ThomasGrillo I have always wondered how DJs and other bands power their speakers. There was this festival in our town, they had 4 line-arrays and 9 subwoofers that were at least 2000 Watts each. So that’s over 18,000 watts for the subwoofers alone. I looked around back, turns out they had two 9,500 gallon gas trailers with generators that could power a small town. But I have always been amazed how smaller gigs can power over 4,000 watts of speakers off one or two outlets at 90+ dB.

    • @jooelewis
      @jooelewis Před 7 lety +2

      The DDJ SZ has a standalone mixer in the unit. The SSJ SB does not have a mixer built into the unit. It only has a sound card. You really don't need powered mixers unless your controller does not have external mixer in the unit.
      DDJ-SZ, SZ2, SX, SX2 are all controllers that have standalone mixing capabilities.

  • @DJSHaKa
    @DJSHaKa Před 3 lety +1

    Welcome to the big leagues. Those Crown amps were made to push MASSIVE speakers in stadiums with line arrays and subs. Unrelentless power only managed by a audio engineers limiters and mixer settings. The amps on powered speakers are a joke compared to raw amps as we like to call them. A "powered" speakers amp is precisely made for that application knowing that they are going to be used to play YMCA at a wedding or the occasional DJ who thinks he is at Creamfields thinking he is Tiesto. Extreme Limiters and compression are built in to "try" to prevent blowing - preventing a warranty claim. Passive is the way to go when you learn to set it up right! You can crush a venue (sound wise) with a passive system and in my opinion easier to setup.

    On your sub issue, I have the same problem. I run two 18 from on amp, and the two 18s of of an other amp which is tied into another power conditioner. The voltage draw on the amp and power condition from four 18s is to much. This will aloow your sub amps to work more efficiently and you'll get more volume to boot! Hope that helps.

  • @grafxnrg
    @grafxnrg Před 7 lety

    You did it the right way. Most DJs attempt to use Powered speakers to handle a gym. You get more control and better sound from passive sound reinforcement system than PA. Next time separate the amplifiers to different outlets with extension cords or reduce the volume from the amplifier so it will not draw too much power. Good job!

    with that amp rack and Macrotech 9000i they should have brought a power distro, it effiecient but you need a 30amp circuit on dual jbl srx 700 subs at 4ohms. thats a professional touring amplifier when you get into big productions with sound and lighting, always use a power distro and external diesel generator. most schools dont have breakouts camlocks for distros you have to have a licenced electrician go in and hard wire it. let me know if you have any questions

    Hey bud, I know this is late response, but I been running 2 macro tech 9000i amps and 4 srx 738 and 4 srx 718s for about 8 years.
    I can power 1 ma9000i, 2 srx738, 2 srx718s and my entire dj table in one 15 amp line. I never clipped the breaker.
    The trick is to connect the amps to audio architecture software and set output limiters and voltage limiters in the amp.
    So you must not have had a dedicated 15 amp line and/or the limiters need to be more aggressive set to kick in.

    Its always wise to check power requirements, most of those sockets are probably there for the cleaning of the auditorium, a rig of that size will require a 3 phase distribution rack. if in doubt ask an electrician or events co-coordinator for there advice. i'm an electrician from the UK so our socket/power arrangement is slightly different from the US, however its basically the same rules.
    Bear in mind, each time the breaker trips it slightly de-rates, so that 15 amp breaker may trip at 14..13...12 maybe. If it trips 12 times it probably is no longer the amperage that it says it is.

    Love the setup! Only thing though is there doesn't seem to be much hype with the music or crowd. I know high schoolers all like hip hop the most nowadays but I find if you combine hip hop with EDM and top-40 remixes it really helps build the hype especially if you incorporate Co2 cannons or confetti cannons at drops with good MCing. To me I feel like I'm not doing a good job unless peoples hands are in the air at least 50% of the time. What we do is bring in 1 or 2 big name local DJs for proms and homecomings. I usually play hip-hop and throwbacks the first hour or two while people are coming in and eating and then have a headliner destroy it once the lights go out :)

Michael nice job with the lights looked sharp. couple questions how are you liking Serato over virtual dj? i also have a vms4 that I am using now. how are u liking your new board? maybe a video on the differences between the vms4? just a idea for future video. last who came up with the x design? again thanks for the video always cool to see!

      @DJRickWeb  Před 7 lety +1

      +Tyler Traeger its like a 50 50 for me between the 2 softwares. Mixing / blending is easier in serato but thats about it. The board is way bigger but has way more options the the vms. The x pattern was what the head of the dance wanted.

      Serato is great on Macs buts not so much on Windows machines. If you want to delve deeper into Serato DJs features you are going to run into problems.
      Vitural DJ is more stable on Windows machines which is why you see a lot of mobile guys use it. Its also cheaper to buy VDJ and a Windows machine. You get better features from windows devices but with Mac and Serato you get better stability across the board. I would use Virtual DJ is I had a windows machine, Mac for Serato. Serato also is better at customer service since Serato was built on a Mac.

    When doing schools, gyms etc asked the maintenance individual for the gym electrical room and see if you or they can get you a 50a circuit. Run the system on that. Obtain a spider box for additional lighting power. I run direct service power min 50a and above for 78k in watts.

    • @DJRickWeb
      @DJRickWeb  Před 7 lety

      +Nigel Wheeler that woukd have been a good idea. Except the electrical room was on the other side of the school..... the gym was a new add on they put into the school and they had no 220 outlets.... the biggest issue was that amp had never been used before and no one looked into the power draw. Just assumed it could run on a 20 amp 120 circuit.

    great gig - I hate active because if not used correctly it can cause internal damage as i have seen in the past - yes its easy to set up but your running 2 cables to the speaker but where passive your running 1 but yet again it all depends on how it was built

    • @DJRickWeb
      @DJRickWeb  Před 7 lety

      +mikesmusic1000 very true. And passive you really need to know what your doing.

    • @jooelewis
      @jooelewis Před 7 lety

      The same issues of damage can happen with passive and active. If you take care of their active or passive you won't run into issues. People don't know how to gain stage. I've seen that damage powered speakers over anything else.

    sorry to hear your breaker tripping. use a 100 amp 220V power distro next time. the MA 9000 needs to be on a 20amp 120v circuit all by itself.

    • @DJRickWeb
      @DJRickWeb  Před 7 lety

      +Kevin McClure yeah we would have needed to rent a geny to do that. There was no 220 ports in the gym. And it was on its own 120 20amp. The 9000 can pull up to 27 amps when extremely over peaking. It broke 18 to 20 amps on the power conditioner reading when it just barely started to peaking out on big bass hits.

  • @bobborn2197
    @bobborn2197 Před 6 lety

    Hello,Could you check the high pass filter setting on your drive rack so it will not send the bass so low. Extremely low bass will use more current from the line, circuit breaker.

    • @DJRickWeb
      @DJRickWeb  Před 6 lety

      Low crossover is set at 35hz to 100hz

    • @bobborn2197
      @bobborn2197 Před 6 lety

      On your first report you said something fast about needing more gain, so you had a small mixer. The driverack
      has a 2 position button on the back for a high gain and a lower gain. make sure it is set for high gain. Also
      when you showed the subs that were behind the curtain, dual 18",they would have a higher output
      if they were lying down instead of standing up. They would couple to the floor better. I realize as used they
      were supporting the top boxes so no tripod was needed. So about the subwoofer circuit tripping, If there
      is a way an electrician could tie in a circuit for this event. If there are places you go to on a regular basis,
      an external fuse box for ( road show ) installed permanently.Do you rent LED moving lights to hold down current ? Bob Born

    Power distro needed. Motors 3 phase? A venue like that should have power out the wazoo! 100 amp should have easily did this. Feel free to contact me for further information. Love your work, and keep it up!

    • @DJRickWeb
      @DJRickWeb  Před 5 lety

      There is no tap for a distro. Theres 100amps between the two breaker panels but there are no 220 plugs. It's all broke out on 110 - 20 amp circuits.

      @@DJRickWeb good morning! Well the next solution is bringing your own power. There's a company called Whisperwatt that makes diesel generators. I've used them regularly. The 120k generators for lighting and sound. You don't need that beast, however they make smaller gensets as well as larger. From a "legal" standpoint...make sure a CDL Driver's license is not required to move it (weight is definitely a factor) unless they deliver and set it up. Then there's the copper... also may I suggest a certified electrician. There's little things like how you coil your excess feeder in figure 8's, placement of fire extinguishers and required extinguisher size...so fourth and so on...if you do large events regularly, it could be a wise move to buy your own. For example, I've had tech riders specify 105 db at FOH (100 ft) with a whopping 48 db of headroom and that's several racks (4 way) then monitor world....12 bi-amped mixes on wedges with tri-amped drum and sidefills not to mention the lights... 120k of par 64's, ACL's, 4 follow spots then another 80k for intelligent lighting plus video walls. definitely a power hungry system. But at that point you're in multi 3 phase world and arena sized shows!
