    This is a perfect example of how experience doesn't just show as precise brushstrokes, but also as planing and decision making. Anyone can move their brush like you do on this video, but the steps and their order are very well thought and sometimes may seem conterintuitive. Amazing job as always, not only on the mini, but also on how you explain your process.

      By the way, I'm trying to paint a white shirt on a big miniature (Rosie by Fer Miniatures) and I struggle to keep it visually interesting and with enough contrast but still reading as white. I watched you painting white before but in armour, not in clothes. Can you refer me to a video where you do it, if you have one?

    Ive never had the balls to paint any of my Space Hulk. Watching this, the genestealers seem very achievable. I brought 10 x termigants for £9 on ebay this week and some cheap makeup brushes for xenos practice. I don't own any contrast paints but they seem the way to go here for sure! I love that Broodloard model!

    That looks awesome and fast. Just what I need for my Leviathan Box of bugs! I really appreciate your speed painting videos -- highly approachable and the use of washes/inks/contrast paints makes them very noob friendly. I find a lot of techniques can require careful precision and my bad eyes and unsteady hands mess them up.

    So great to see you doing some 'nids Vince - after assembling some 2003 'nid infantry (with the heads that come in 2 halves....seam line through the face is absolutely brutal and sucks a lot of fun out of the whole activity) I'd lost a lot of willpower to paint them up - now I'm all psyched to try this approach out and keen to paint again. Thanks for all your excellent videos. S.

      @@VinceVenturella speaking of Daler Rowney inks and paynes grey.
      If you could only have a limited selection of inks to start off with, what would your suggestion be for say 6 inks to build from?
      I assume white and paynes grey would certainly make their way into the mix.
      Also how is the variance between those inks and say GW's old ink line, as I still have a few sitting around from those days (black, flesh, chestnut, blue, thst sort of thing)

    Before I even watch this episode I just want to say I loved seeing your highlight on the Warhammer community page.
    Even against other such impressive artists your Sigvald made a statement.
    The mirror shield with showing its shape through the altered reflection still stands out against the others such as Sam's which displays amazing freehand work but fails to capture the nature of the shields curved surface.

    Hey really, REALLY appreciate all your videos! One quick question! I tried following your technique for the purple carapace but I’m not getting as nice of a result. Roughly what are your ratios for thinning the purple lake ink or these Daler Rowney inks in general?

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  Před 2 lety

      It varies, but quite a bit of water and a few drops of flow improver. One thing, make sure you are wicking off the excess into a paper towel and then moving your brush in the same direction as you want the "texture" to move.

    Showing up to this late with the news of Tyrranids dropping in 10th. Interested to see if maybe you could show any other color schemes? It seems like the bone / grey / white underskin is by far the easiest to speed paint but would be interested in seeing how you could possibly speed paint some darker skin tones. I realize changing the chitin color is just swapping out the purple for another, however you'd likely want to feather in less pinks etc on the muscles for say... a green chitin or something like this? Either way great stuff and thank you!

      It's a great idea for a video. My best advice is that eventually, you have to just settle on a scheme and accept that it won't be perfect. The best advice I can offer is to accept that this project, like any other will not be the best project you'll ever do, but it also won't be your last. Your next project will be another chance. You will always learn more and grow more from deciding and doing rather than thinking and planning. :)

    tl;dw: drybrush => contrast paints.

    I was avoiding those Citadel contrast paints, because I did't want to fall into the lazinaess of painting everything with them, but that red you used is such a beautiful tone I'll have to buy it now.

    I know it's been a while, but my DW white ink just gets wiped out by whatever I put over it, even after a full day drying. Any ideas, other than varnish, ot just using Bold Titanium White?

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  Před rokem +1

      Yeah, it's just not setting, because of your humidity, thinner or something else. So it's either switch to paint or primer, or give a good varnish after priming.

    what brand of brushes do you use, brother?

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  Před 3 lety

      That's a big question, the answer is lots of them, my nice detail bruses are Raphael 8404, but most of my work and what you saw here was with a generic synthetic brush, this video has the full story - czcams.com/video/YTm_LgpOA0Y/video.html
