- Come join me as I tackle painting my Leviathan box set Tyranids! There's a lot of pink, contemplating the design of some of the models, and painting in the span of weeks it takes me to work on them. This is going to be part 1 of many as this is taking me much longer to complete than anticipated. Enjoy!

Do not feel pressured to come out with content on a regular basis. Yes I'm enjoying it and it's very interesting and beautiful however just have fun I was able to watch it when it came out❤
Thank you :) I think I have accepted that one video every two weeks is a good timeline for me without stressing, just had to come to terms with that instead of the one a week so many other creators do
This is a great scheme! Very alien, but also kind of Earthy (makes sense, it’s flowers). Relaxing to watch too
I'm glad you like it!!
Woa! Your orchis mantis color scheme have evolved very nicely. It's like I wanted to hug them^^.
I bet they would give you killer hugs!
Welcome to the Hive Mind! I for one welcome our new Norn Queen
I will try to do the title justice haha
Glad to be along for the ride while you learn how to finish this project (both painting AND filming) ❤
Glad for you to be here!
Looks great so far, looking forward to seeing the rest finished.
Oh my god your command of the brush to put those spots down is so good. Very well done.
When I was theorizing paint/color schemes for my Tyranids I DID just get a picture of them in a photo editor and spray-paint colors on the picture to more easily imagine how it would look irl. I THINK it helped. Not totally sure.
It helped a ton to have the model on the table so I can rest my whole hand and just use my fingers, but thank you :)
Honestly for big projects in the future I might do that just so I can make sure it makes sense!
Nice job! I love the ping orchid sceme, it look amazing. I have the very same Tyranids + 10 more Termagants and one extra riperswarm. I painted 30 termagaunts and 3 riperswarms and man I'm sick of purple right now lol. good luck with your challenge hope to see them finished... wish me luck too lol
oh gosh yeah so many! I swear I close my eyes and only see pink haha. Good luck with yours!
Hive Fleet Orchid is amazing! Great job!
Thank you!
Love the contrast between the pinks and whitres with the darker browns and greens
Thanks! I think it helps break up the model from just all pink
You are doing great!! funny fact, at least for me, 95% of people don't notice the minor tiny details, once they see the army on the board, it looks awesome, keep going, you can do it!!
Thank you! I know... I am my harshest critic. Its hard not to focus on details when I'm so close in and painting. I'm still working on that part!
Thank you for getting me thinking about how much a Brandon Sanderson cosmere minis game would rock.
I'm so sad I missed out on the miniature kickstarter! It really would be so good
@@melsminiloft I really hope they sell them on their own!
Such a unique color scheme. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you like it!
This is a really awesome color scheme. It's beautiful and creepy. Inspiring!
Thank you! It's turning out way better than I would have originally thought, I'm happy I went through with it :)
@@melsminiloft "Trust the process!" I should be a mantra. I've found myself despairing half way through too many times to count.
Yeah for Mistborn. Love those books.
Me too, I am loving his new mystery books too. I'm a big brandosando fan haha
I always love the Psychophage but in this color scheme, it really looks incredible
Thank you so much! His design works really well with a more earthy color palette.
Everything looks great so far!
Thank you :)
Very nice thinking outside the box!! A true artist at work keep the videos coming can not wait to see them all painted and based. Maybe I’ll do the yellow Rose of Tau scheme
Thank you! and that color for Tau sounds amazing, I hope you do!
They look great, what an amazing force they'll look on the tabletop :D
Thank you! I can't wait to see it all finally come together
Ive just found your channel and love your vibe, cant wait to see these nids done :)
Welcome! I can't wait too 😊
The scheme is really creative and looks great! keep it up
Thank you! I can't wait to see them all done.
I like the plant life on the bases. It suits the Tyranids
Thanks! I always think large aliens and jungles ever since Alien vs Predator lol
You continue to grow in your painting skills
Thank you, consistently painting is really helping, which is obvious now haha but its nice to see it regardless
Very cool!
I just bought the Leviathan boxed set and plan on painting my 'Nids in a similar scheme.
ooh awesome! I love the nature looking 'Nids, good luck painting!
Awesome job and I love the theme choice! Was cool to hear your thoughts using the Gaahleri products! I recently picked up a GHAD-39 on another youtuber's recommendation but had never heard of the brand or anyone else really talking about them. Been saving up a generic $100 compressor since I don't own one but I am going to seriously think about getting the one you used instead!
Thank you! Honestly for the price point, it was a really good airbrush and compressor kit. The whole compressor fit in the palm of my hand and it was really quiet, its great for people with small workspaces! I haven't tried their dual compressor one yet but so far I am very happy with their stuff.
That is one siiiiick scheme. Would also work well on Eldar or drukhari I think.
oh I agree! They are meant for bright colors
Liking the vibrant colours and contrast. Will definitely stand out on the battlefield. Only suggestion i would make is to use an actual primer, rather than standard acrylic pain. Vallejo has a good range of airbrush primers called Surface Primer in a range of colours, which will add more tooth and adherence for the later coats.
I... never really realized there was a distinction between the paints in terms of priming 😅 I thought it was just the term. I will for sure look for primers in the future. Thank you!
Hate use Adams Sandler's favorite saying "you can do it"! In this case a completed army is a relief you will not forget.
Cool colour scheme
Thank you :)
Man, I love this paint scheme. It's so great the way you vary placement on each of the models, but create that unified look throughout with the controlled pallette. Don't know the names of all the Tyranids I'm afraid, but Mr Big Butt Vine Mouth is looking ex-cel-lent!
Thank you so much! Seeing them come together is so rewarding, I can't wait. Also, I have to look up their names all the time, theres so many phages and gaunts they get mixed up in my head lol
I will always remember the Psychophage as Mr Big Butt Vine Mouth! 🤣😂
Simplify hard decision making by using one of the figures to repeat the same scheme. You are doing great and yes, it is hard to complete an army, but you will be glad you did.
For the smaller units like the Termagants I am for sure going to do as you said. Thank you! The hard work will pay off when I get to see them on the battlefield!
It was intresting to hear you chat about making the videos... do I dare suggest a Q&A in Mel's loft?
:O If others are interested I could I guess haha
Hello. Keep up the good work! 2 things. 1st. do not listen to those who tells you to base your minis before painting. that is just the worst idea. all the stuff what you put on the base just in the way of your brush. its like you making your life harder for no reason. i usually never put any of the models on the base just right afeter i finihshed the painting. i super glue them on or bluetack them on old paint cup or wine plugs. when im done with the painting i do the base separatly. and when the base is done, i glue the modell on to it. lot easier. also if you batch painting is a lot faster to do the bases togeather with no mini glued on .
2nd. you have a biiiiig gap on the screamingkiller all the way at the joints. use putty/filler or just a normal plastic glue. plastic glue melts the plastic and fills the gaps. have a good hobby time! keep it up!!
gosh I know the big gap feels so bad! I didn't know what I was doing when I started assembling these guys. My Tyranid Prime has an even worse one unfortunately. I still need to learn how to patch up gaps, the next army I work on I will for sure.
Thank you for the tips! I have never really painted a mini that wasn't on the base first but that's probably a better idea haha.
Never feel bad asking questions from more experienced gamers painters :) this is a big(ver big. World wide) community. And it is full with helpfull and good people :) keep it up! Also, you can finde tons and tons of modelling videos. Gap filling and stuff :)
When it comes to airbrush + compressor, what other bits n bobs would you suggest well worth grabbing too?
I definitely recommend a paint pot, where you can put the airbrush in and remove any excess paint and some airbrush cleaner! I don't think I would be doing as well without those two main things. Good luck if you start out airbrushing!
@@melsminiloft appreciate it, thanks
I was chatting to the stumpy tail dude, he said he got into a battle and the other guy bit his tail off!
Ouch!!!
Ha! Clearly he has an evolutionary advantage 😂
I just stuck to the basic Leviathan scheme, way simpler though nowhere near as vibrant as this.
Good work.
The Leviathan scheme is honestly really nice, the purples give it a really alien look.
Thank you :)
amazing work i subbed maybe some texture paints on the bases to finish them off/?
I plan to do all the basing together when I finish them all, it should be texture paint with some moss/lichen!
fantastic

Coooooooooooooooooooooooool!
yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!
what are your favorite brushes?
I don't know if I have a favorite, I am still so new to it all. I just got as a gift a Windsor and Newton brush and I am in love with it so far, but I've never had anything better lol
