  • Just how "alpha" is the Hori Fighting Stick α? In this vid, I review the Hori Fighting Stick Alpha arcade stick for the PlayStation 5. It has a few drawbacks as well as some pretty cool features. Watch to see the final score and let me know if you agree with my assessment.

    I have gotten this stick around my birthday and even got to customize it based on one of my favorite divisions from Hypnosis Mic, and plus with the Functions options, I was able to assign different buttons for me to use on games such as Blazblue and even for the Pop’n Music titles. The only issue I had was how you sound on the mic through the headphone jack since it will make your voice a bit low and have some sort crackling sound going on whenever you use it on, but it was still pretty good to use nonetheless. This was a brilliant review, I’m glad you got to try this out and I hope you keep on helping people out on Fightstick customizing and fighting games in general, have a good one

    This was a lovely video. I have been enjoying your content all day, and it really does not warrant this stupid short essay I wrote, but you touched on a personal axe I feel the need to grind. Between the Mayflash elites, the Victrix, the Qanba sticks, the Madcatz return, and the dragonslay/ego clones, there are a plethora of Sanwa Vewlix options, which are the default on account of the original TE. That’s fine. What’s disappointing is that how limited non-Sanwa retail stick options are. Outside of Hori, you can import an IST or an Etokki for a lot of shipping, or you can get the Qanba mechanical switch stick. There is only 1 Sanwa Noir option you can buy without importing. There is little to no diversity within the retail stick market. Hori has been doing great work by offering an alternative with Hayabusa Noir sticks. If Hayabusa parts are “questionable parts” then literally any retail stick parts that aren’t Sanwa parts are questionable parts. I know you added the caveat that a new player might not mind, but the way it’s presented in this video is as if only someone who hadn’t tried Sanwas would enjoy Hayas, and that’s just not true. Hayas, Seimitsus, and Sanwas are all things a new player ought to try and are in a clear league above parts like Zippys, Mayflashes, or Suzo Happs(please just buy iLs), which are real budget questionable parts that only a new player would enjoy.
    TLDR: Seimitsus are the best you Sanwa sheep, I’m going to go play Ikaruga. 😈

    • @HushMySweet1
      @HushMySweet1  Před rokem +2

      I actually think the parts are fine and very comparable to their Sanwa counterparts, so hopefully it didn't read like I hated them. A lot of people just sort of look for Sanwa as the default because it's the main brand and probably one of the only ones they have experience with, so I wanted to make it clear those weren't the parts in this stick. I also didn't mean questionable like they were cheap; I meant questionable as in they were not Sanwa and also were not what I'd normally choose to put in my own sticks if given the option (but neither is Sanwa at this point). Everything circles back to a feel issue, I suppose, and this is just my opinion. The lever feels a touch sloppier to me and the buttons feel a bit lower with a lower actuation force (which aren't things I typically look for in components), but at the end of the day, they play just fine (and there are some people who prefer them as noted in other comments). I do like really like the Noir layout and them moving the industry away from Vewlix which has been so standard for so long, so they did get that right. I'm with you in regard to Seimitsu buttons. Most of my sticks are either Seimitsu or Crown 202s. I can play longer and more comfortably if the buttons have a bit higher actuation force threshold and I can rest my fingers on them without a press. Thanks for your essay comment though! I'm still dialing in my review process and I can try to make things like this more clear in the future.

    Wow dude, you really did a number on this one! You thought about everything. I really liked the fact that the case comes with a lot of quality of life features. The only QoL feature that I did not see and I really like is the removable (quick release) joystick. That makes it really easy to get it in a bag. Now that I think about it, my first joystick was I think one of the first really cheap hori fightsticks (before the f100?) and it had membrane buttons. below the buttons there was a pcb! The joystick itself had the exact same sound as this one, and it had a square gate too. The instant I heard the joystick switches, that old thing came to mind. It took a nice beating for a couple years and it still performed okay! For me the thing to consider is the options in the market for the price tag. Very nice review dude. P.S. *whispers* duuuuuude open up a referal store for the reviewed items!

    Had the opportunity to pick this up for less than 200 when this came out. Was well worth it, it is currently my only joystick controller right now when I feel like playing on one. Joystick and button mods aside, the only criticisms I really have are the way the cable wraps, never seems to want to stay tightly wound so there's a bit that always sticks out that the clamp shell gets stuck on when closing so I have to still tuck it in to fully close. I don't mind the plastic case considering the price point, though I feel the shape of it is a bit boxy, does make me want to bring my legs closer to balance it better. Otherwise, awesome stick.

      Just like any other fightstick: You'll want to grip around the crimp and ease them up off the button prong (you may need to push the little gasket stuff up a bit to make it easier). If they are really on there, then I'd suggest using a little precision screwdriver (flathead) and working it up and off the prong that way. can i put real arcade parts in this? I don't like the stick. I want to put the same exact bat stick street fighter 2 arcade machines had in the 90s.

      What would that be? Like a Wico Perfect 360 optical joystick? I don't have this arcade stick any longer to test on or take measurements from, but I would say that lever might be too large. I believe it comes down beyond the mounting plate something like 7 cm. Is there room for 7 cm in this enclosure? My gut says no.

    My gripes with the stick is that the way you wrap the wire in the stick is kinda terrible, the overall design is kinda ugly and it's kinda expensive considering how much plastic it uses.
    It still serves its purpose as a ps5 stick though.

    • @HushMySweet1
      @HushMySweet1  Před rokem +6

      I actually didn't mind the design too much (good wrist room and plenty of space for some custom art), but I agree with your points. Too much plastic made it too light and loose feeling for how big it seemed to be and for how much it cost. And the cord wrap was interesting and novel, but seemed situated too close to the buttons or something. But yeah, at least we're getting some true PS5 sticks. Thanks for watching!

      I absolutely have to agree, I was impressed by the comfort level the wrist room and noir button layout provided.
      The inside wiring of the buttons looks ugly, but every wire is securely attached and needs extra punctual pressure with a pin or srewdriver to be released.
      So the usb cable storage is painful, but does not interfere with the wiring.
      In the end the inside storage option of the usb cable compliments the outerior look of the fightstick.
      As a pc only user there are two minor points I disliked:
      - The touchpad is completely unusuable, not even as a simple (extra) button to press for stage reset (as an example)
      - The headphone jack is listed as unsupported in the instruction handbook, but there were some mute moments where windows directed the audio output to the fightstick.
      Finally I just decided to send the stick back because in germany the Hori Device Manager was not working properly.
      Always asking for confirmation of an update without really initialising it afterwards. And the changes made to button functions in the profiles were not saved.
      It was a hard choice to return the stick, because I primarly use the stick for fighting games with directional pad, but I also want the option for "Left Stick" usage in 2D games like Dead Cells and Hollow Knight. There was no solution to be found online and I got the impression the Device Manager is kind of not working properly in many cases.
      Now I realise, there are almost no other options with the button layout.

      @@michelgiacobino2577 Thanks for the comment! I think you highlighted some valid concerns. I guess people are going to have to weigh those against the positives (ample wrist room, fairly simple art swaps, and a noir layout). I'm a huge custom guy at heart, so TBH this stick probably only has an additional couple hours on it since I released this vid. It's not a bad little stick at all, but I just seem to find fewer reasons to play on ones I haven't put my own spin on, and I haven't done anything to this one yet. Anyway, I hope you find the best stick for you. I've got another review or two hopefully coming in the near future, so stay tuned and thanks for watching.

    I feel this stick is a bit of a let down. It wish the stick was about 7 lbs and less plastics, it has too much of it and the stick doesn’t feel as sturdy due to
    Not
    Enough metal panels

      I've since changed my tune slightly on this one since the price is so much cheaper than a lot of other Qanba and Razer offerings. But yeah, a little more heft would have been nice. Thanks for watching!

      @@HushMySweet1 it's because TE2+ at the time of release was around $200 or so, yet it's hell of a lot more sturdy and solid feeling than this stick, which came out much later and surely could have taken some notes from the TE2, which is still one of the GOATs when it comes to tournament level sticks. This stick could have been even better than the TE2+ but it was a let down....

      You can get octagonal replacements for Hori levers if that's your speed. (Or just sub it out entirely for something with more options)
