I've heard people say over the years in this scene that you cannot extract anymore HP out of X car but I feel like there is always meat left on the table, even in some of the most efficient factory engines. What do you guys think? How would you modify an RX-8?
The Slip Angle IMO cooling and aero mods are the best bang for the buck. Flow more air though engine bay and keep air from getting under the body.

My girlfriend decided to blow my 8 up, bless her......(she made up for it,wink), had the engine rebuilt at a local independent builder here in the UK and for a little extra I had the racing beat template porting done ,inlet and outlet and this combined with a high flow cat, catback exhaust and K&N panel filter and revision C Mazda coils and I can't begin to tell you how hard it pulls.
It's work in progress with more tuning to come such as a header, flowed throttle body and ignition amplifier/ booster that currently reside in my garage as well as suspension work , but even if the engine was low on compression before it's still night and day faster with the porting work.
ChambersRotary in the UK if anybody interested, may have changed to Limited company last year.

Considering all the mods you have made, do you know how many Lbs did the 8 lost? Is possible to lose more weight without sacraficing confort? I know the 8 has quite a few speakers, maybe taking 2 or 3 could help or what could you recomend? Hope you can help me.

@@acbartolo the head unit must be a couple of kg's at least ,i dumped mine and fitted a tablet in place of the sat nav screen .
RX-8s are underrated.
They really are. I say all the time they are the unsung hero out there.

For me, the RX8 gives a champagne car for the ginger beer life of the working man......they are unique, different cars that give 'real' world satisfaction of owning and driving a 'proper' engineerd machine like the pin up cars on our garage walls we can't reach. Sometimes less really is more.

Those exhaust differences are everything on these cars. The header and catback differences between the two are almost entirely the reason your car pulled on him (assuming the engines themselves are putting out identical numbers, which they usually don't). Great side by side video!

Nice, I totally need to get a header, intake and tune lol. If the header really does free up some ponies then I'ma do that after the cooling system upgrade. I always kinda feel like my rx8 doesn't quite pull like it should though.. nice video guys, keep the content coming!

You can always squeeze a little bit more out of an engine.
Could the difference in preformance be a difference in engine compression or porting/ Apex seals/ etc. Seems like a huge difference for just header and wheel size? . Great video btw 👌 makes me excited to drive my rx8 later! And btw the music choice is great, most car channels use obnoxious music lol

Alright I’m starting to change my mind on a project car now. First I was thinking NC Miata but now I’m leaning towards the RX-8🤓

@@TheBb6prelude no, not at all. Miatas are tiny. RX8's are pretty normal sized as far as cars go

I plan to buy one if those easy drain oil pan bolts for my S2 RX8. So far all I’ve done are window visors and FCM Bilstein dampers which handle nice and feels sorta like a bmw. Really itching to swap out the exhaust system but gonna focus more on getting my Miata back on the road. The other night I was playing with a 911 turbo on the highway. Pushed it to red line in fifth gear so I was surprised the car went that fast but you already know the beetle was a few car lengths away, lol.
Your car looks like it gained torque thanks to the exotic speed header. I wonder how The BHR longtube piece compares.
Funny enough I just rolled 40k miles on my car as well. The whole time you were beating on it in this video my wallet was cringing knowing just how much the fuel meter moves when I do the same, lol!

How old is your transmission fluid? Maybe worn synchro?

When I bought the 8 on 2017 aug I replaced the fluid trans and diff. I replaced my fluid with redline at the end of dec last year.
The car is 10 plus years old and the dude who has the 8 did use it for baunderant (spell check) racing. I think the synchros are are degraded or defective due to abuse..
I just want to rule out all possibilities before installing a newer transmission..
That being said I have bled the clutch and brake fluid, the gears do respond slightly better but no where near racing spec..

Your exhaust doesn't sound raspy at all, mine does that at high rpms

With a few mods, the rx8 is a beast. Faster then most cars, some even with turbo. by the way, the AEM style pipe is garbage man. It slows your r8 down. It has to drag air from all the way at the front of the bumper. Like no man. Get the Racing beat type one. It's just like the oem one, but better. It sucks a lot more air then stock. Your car will fly.
So what’s the realistic life span on the Renesis in terms of a rebuild mileage? Same for actual mpg?
I love the concept and have driven them, it just seems like the real world running cost and longevity would be significantly higher comparatively.
I think you can do 200k miles with proper maintenance.
The problem is unless you bought it new you never know how well one has been looked after. The majority of them have been run low on oil by previous owners who never knew how to look after a rotary. To get a good one you need to buy from an enthusiast who has maintained it from new and has driven it hard!!! You dont want to buy one thats been owned by Maureen the careful lady driver! Trying to get good mpg figures by short shifting all the time kills them!
You can usually see red flags for neglect. If you buy one from an owner who understands the basic needs and the example is clean and well taken care of I don't think you will have any issues. I bought mine from a 54 year old woman who was the original owner with 22k miles on the clock. I now have 43k miles all of them very enthusiastically driven and have not had any issues whatsoever other than having to replace ignition coils and a cat that may have been starting to clog. Those are necessity items anyways, so it should be assumed that you will have to replace them.
The Slip Angle you got lucky lol. Theres a lady down the street from me with one for sale. 28k on the clock and low compression on the first rotor. I tested it for her and she couldn’t believe it! She took it to her Mazda dealer for a second opinion. Its now for sale in our local classifieds for 1200. I’d have bought it but I already have 2 one if which I already bought as a rebuild project. I love them. They are great fun cars 👍

Do a compression check on the engines
It's possible Ilia's car is a little lower compression. He tested the motor when he bought it, but hasn't tested it since.
Wait now i'm confused; garage Tein Flex Z?! As many sets as you own I thought you liked them.
I have old school Flex on the Miata's and FD and Monosports on my S2000. I'm happy with the Miata's and the S2000 with them, but I am getting rid of them on the FD and the RX-8. The Flex Zs rates are too soft for the RX-8 and it's easy to bottom out the rears over hard bumps.

I like it but painfully slow. They arent really good at digs. Compared with each other its educational seeing what mods yield better results. People in the Rx8 Club fb group always ask if the coils, wires and cat back are worth it.

We've been pretty lucky with snow so far this year. If it means I can drive some of the cars, I'll take it :)

The 255/35/18 tires I run are 5% smaller diameter than stock. Effectively it's almost the same as if I added a 4.77 to the car. I wouldn't mind the bump in gearing for the lower gears, but I don't want any shorter cruise speeds than where I am at now with this wheel and tire setup.
Your videos are so much nicer when you shut your mouth and we can hear the exhaust. I can just play this in the headphones while I go to work.
