- Over a long relationship, the Dowager Countess and Isobel Crawley have had their fair share of arguments. The ongoing tension between the two strong-willed women has spanned conversations about wounded soldiers, hospital runnings, charity work, and much more. However, despite their disagreements, we can’t help but laugh at their memorable stream of caustic insults, dubious advice and witty comments.
This is the official CZcams channel for Downton Abbey. Immerse yourself in the much-loved British historical drama, relive some of your favourite moments and tragedies, and keep up-to-date with the latest news.
The costume drama series, Downton Abbey, written and created by Oscar-winning writer Julian Fellowes, stars Academy Award-winner Maggie Smith as a Dowager Countess of an Edwardian English country house in 1912. The series portrays the lives of the Crawley family and the servants who work for them, in a time before the last vestige of a century’s old tradition were stripped away by World War and the modern age. The all-star cast also includes Hugh Bonneville and Elizabeth McGovern.

#DowntonAbbey - Zábava
My favorite interaction between Violet and Isobel is when Isobel tells Violet that she hates to be wrong and Violet responds by saying she's not familiar with the sensation.
The refugee manipulation was a masterclass xD
Violet's face after Isobel says, "Now you've struck a chord..." 🤣
She had a lit. Just working her way down the list until she him pay dirt.
One of my favourite moments has to be when Mrs. Crawley likens the Dowager to the sister of Marie Antoinette and how she takes everything as a compliment.
"The Queen of Naples was a stalwart figure."
You're everywhere n I love it
when Isobel said "Queen of Naples" I immediately zoned in on Maria Carolina because who else had such influence & renown even if it's been decades since Napoleon and the Congress of Vienna
@@iffatrizvi9531 Thank you
Violet and Isobel are the very definition of frenemies. Lol
“I don’t criticize either you or her. But I hope you find a way to make friends with the world again.” Whether serving up snark or offering comforting words, Violet always knew just what to say.
The relationship evolved over the series from dislike to friendship as the women aged together and both found themselves alone within the wide family
“How you hate to be wrong.” “I wouldn’t know. I’m not familiar with the sensation.” 💀
"They're defensible to me." Spoken like a True friend and confident.
Feelings are neither right or wrong. They simply are. It is what we DO in relation to those feelings that makes the difference. It doubtless took time, but I have no doubt that Mrs. Crawley found that putting her feelings to words, and then expressing the reality of what she knows must be, assisted her in putting to rest the unjust and unhappy emotions.
“I suppose she has an appropriate costume for every activity”
forever iconic
"Seems a pity to miss such a good pudding." Died!!! 🤣
one of my favourite quotes from her 😀
I love the back-and-forth between the two Crones, and how they are each other's confidants and supporters.
'seems a shame to give up such a good pudding'...that sums it up! Way to go, Dowager
The acting in this TV drama was superb... what casting! ❤😊
I've really got to sit down and watch this entire series. I very much like the way the friendship between these two developed over time.
Downton Abbey should come with a warning... it's addictive! I have re-watched it countless times. The introduction is amazing too.
me too where can one get the full series ? please
@@catherinekibugi1779 It's available right here on CZcams, but you have to but it. I believe it's also streaming on Peacock, Amazon Prime, and Britbox.
One of my favorite gags in this series is related to that last line. Some time later, Isobel gives Violet a nut cracker for Christmas! Its only really funny if you remember this last line.
TBH, the Nutcracker was given as a Christmas gift during the end of Season 1. The line about being a "touch nut cracker" came in season 6 just before Isobel married Lord Merton.
Talk about getting the servant's cart before the horse... Are you sure? Its seemed obvious the writer meant one to compliment the other. But I really didn't know what episodes those bits were from. If you're right, someone wrote the gag but completely executed it wrong; including the punch line in an early episode and the set up in a later one. Because I honestly can't believe the two lines aren't related. @@m.layfette6249
Actually season 2 was the nutcracker gift. Isobel tells the Dowager she can use it to crack her nuts
@@jillianeveritt6804You know what you're right. Unlike the Dowager I can admit it. It was during the same episode when Matthew proposed to Mary in the snow. ❄️ Just beautiful.
It's a nutcracker so you can crack your nuts
The expression on her face slays me
At 5:02. "You've been reading those communist newspapers again." Those words of the Dowager Countess echo in my head as I see Ms. Crawley impudently take charge of a house and property that isn't her own. LOL.
NGL, I wanted MORE. 😅 Please make a part 2 because their dynamic was a pivotal part of the show. There's always something I missed each time I watch Downton Abbey so it never gets old to me. Plus, this channel makes me feel...connected.
This compilation generally, except for the first few samples, contains the least combative of their interactions. It was great to watch as these two women grew, interaction by interaction, so close and so fond of each other.
I Iove those 2 together.
They're besties at the end of it though
Soo... In the beginning, Lady Grantham barely considered it a hospital... And then at the last season she is strongly defending it's autonomy
Dame Maggie is world class in put downs.
😂 Love it, as I wouldn't miss a good pudding, either! 12:10
I love how Mrs Crawley and Lady Grantham go from rivals to good friends
I love all the storylines, especially any line involving Maggie smith… ❤
"well of course, these days servants are very hard to find"
"Seems a pity to miss such a good pudding"
The dowager being the diplomat, classic! 😂
Isabel sometimes overstepped - decreeing that Downton stay open as a recovery center was not her choice to make.
You can't possibly want things to go back to the way they were, surely? Dowager: Of course I do, and as quickly as possible.
The dowager is a font of wisdom and so is Mrs Crawley thats why they could be friends
These two are gems and play so well off each other!
Come to think, Penelope Wilton is a Dame herself. I wonder which Order of Chivalry.
This needs to be about 30 minutes longer lol
Yaaas! I always find something I missed in the show with these kind of videos.
My favourite Enemies to besties
Excellent scene in the hospital except that the drainage bottle should have been below the level of the chest. Not above or level with it. (RN for years)
They were draining the area between the heart and the pericardium manually with the valved syringe, not by gravity, so the bottle was fine at that level. If they had depended on gravity it would have taken much longer and there would have been more risk of the syringe needle penetrating the heart itself, not just the pericardium. This procedure is different from draining the entire chest cavity such as occurs with a hemothorax, pleural effusion, or pneumothorax where the trocar is no where near the heart.
This is my cosy tv viewing pleasure
Best relationship !
Dowager Countess must be Aquarius: she drops sudden speeches
quote: It seems a pitty to miss such a pudding 👢
Older people I like how they say whatever they wanted!! Years ago up to the 90s 95 percent of everyone I knew respected the elderly that we let them say what they wanted. Today it is changed!! I like about these two they ended up so close. Dowager said what she wanted to everyone and sometimes directly, subtle and other ways that she got her point across. The hospital scenes the Dowager was used nothing changing but Mrs Crawley slowly changed or evolved the Dowager nicely. Mrs Crawley understood well.
I love all the characters but Maggie Smith made this show
Quiz: The dowager countess has cried once in the course of the series. Do you know when? ❤
The first was during Season 2 at William Mason's wedding/funeral. Covering up to Lady Edith that she has a cold.
In Season 3 upon entering the house after Lady Sybil's death. After speaking to Carson she leans on the wall for console. After a brief moment she walks off lifting her veil to join the family in the drawing room.
In Season 5 when discussing Violet's relationship with Lord Merton in regards to their upcoming nuptials. The Dowager becomes dewey eyed in discussing with Lady Mary how she'll be sad to loose her companion.
@@m.layfette6249Wow, there are experts among us. Thank you.
Wasn't it at William's "wedding"?
@@oneness7866 Sadly, for William Mason it's one in the same. What you need to recall is that the Dowager Countess paid a "special call" to Rev. Travis to "convince" him to perform the wedding ceremony. Thanks for the 💜. I like to think I can quote the script better than Julian Fellowes himself.
Well, I guess my answer was wrong which was Sybil's death. I never thought it was Mason's wedding/death. Violet did say that it was a cold. Right? 😉
@@carmenmonoxide7459Thanks for your thoughts! 🙏
……I’m on my tenth viewing of this wonderful series’. I find the acting, script, costumes’ top notch. I find it very relaxing, & as an equestrienne, love the hunt scenes’, & the point-to-point racing.
There’re too many memorable scenes’ to enumerate, but two outstanding for me were the arrival on Tom, with Sybby, at the Carsons’ Wedding, & Matthew, & William at the Concert.
The sacking of both Nanny West, & Isobel, by Lady Cora Crawley, was superb…………
Julian Fellowes wrote other tv show, ‘The Gilded Sge’, & it, too, is magnificent! And the costumes’, oh heavens’, just SO beautiful………
Dame maggie smith 😂
At once!
Fancy your mother picking pudding over you 🤔🫢😂
Hehe, your remark just made my morning!
Ahh yes. The days where surgery was carried out without any nod to sterility
No one is a better counterpoint for Violet than Isobel. Penelope Wlton is the best.

Yigh.
I love all the characters, but Carson to me was always insufferable.
Carson is all ways a stick in the mud.and a stick up his but.
Love his deep voice and utter pomposity.
……Jim Carter has a beautiful bass voice. Listen to his reading at the soldier memorial...... wonderfully done!
The Dowager Countess is wonderful, but she has such awful faults.
