- I'm Tired of Ugly Futuristic Car Designs...Ohhhh, look how futuristic this is, I tried less, deleted a lot of features, then locked it behind a paywall. Yeah so futuristic. Kiss my effing butt. The Future of Cars…is to go back. Whether it’s Neo-Classic Motorcycles, Remastered Video Games, or Retro Styling, the market has shown time and time again, some of the best appealing products, have already existed and simply need an update in hardware, polish, and repackaged in a manner where the new generation can appreciate it.
Make cars still look like cars. I’m sick of this trend to make the dumbest looking oversized kitchen appliance. You know things are bad when Hyundai of all companies, has got it going. I hate that if you lower an Ioniq, it actually looks pretty cool and if they made a smaller hatchback version, it’d sell like hotcakes. The N-Vision is stunning, passionate, and brings some soul, even if masquerading, like I said. Whisk me away, ease me into the upcoming pain. If we’re going electric, delude me. Delude the already schizophrenic me, more than my abilify can drown, while dopamine can still arrive.

the Ather 450X is a scooter that has that futuristic kinda sound to it but it's only in india
I mean, it's certainly not illegal - the government only requires that there be a sound to warn pedestrians, they never specify WHAT sound.
The hard part would be designing the sound and linking it to the car's power output.

I hate that this is the reality we live in, but many manufacturers are engineering cabin sound in their EVs. BMW has this weird techno hum. Pretty sure Hummer does as well.
If you can't already, I'm almost certain someone will let you load in your own cabin noise. Yes, it'd be better if everyone *else* heard the eldritch screech of your passing, but it's pretty good consolation that you will very likely be able to hear it in the not-too-distant future.
I love the designs of the 1960s because they just let the designers go wild with intricate and unique designs. Now the designers are told to remove as many details as possible and pass it off by saying “but it’s futuristic”.
I think regulations are partly to blame. "pedestrian safety" and all this nonsense
The problem is the beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I find intricate ugly (to my personal experience), and simplicity (especially in terms of the surface shape, but also minimizing the number of colors) to be the apex of beauty. If I find modern stereotyped cars rather ugly due to being overcomplicated, is my idea of what looks good less legitimate than yours?
@@unkarsthug4429 im all for the minimalist design philosophy, unfortunately, most tech companies dont see the spirit behind the art and just think "hmmm, less detail = cheaper production cost" and leave it there instead of creating something people can at least stand to look at on a daily basis
Just look at Peugeot and Citroën cars. They’re so far away from minimalism. I would argue that they have too many lines.

Current regulations wouldn't allow it, even with updates technology. The car industry is being regulated into the ground and is currently on life support.

It actually doesn't bring bring more freedom for designers. Yes they don't need to account for the engine and base the dimensions around that, but eventually most electric cars will need to be as aerodynamic as possible, and will end up looking like soap bars.

Even if that might be the case, at lower speeds the shape of the car doesn't matter as much so, as long as it is not a 2T+ behemoth with the aerodynamics of a brick, a lot of designs will fit the bill and, in the worst case, get a lower efficiency mark like home appliances too. AFAIK there is no legislation to not sell inefficient appliances so why would it be different for EVs?
@@LAndrewsChannel Oh, trust me they'll bring in Empg at some point. Even right now many electric cars are considered very inefficient regarding how much electricity they use. And this will only have a larger effect as more people get conned into buying EV's. Electricity prices are already jumping in many countries, but this is just the start. If the EU's plans become real, and ICE cars get banned from sale, electricity will be at least 20 times as expensive as it is now. Also I find it funny how you're talking about low speeds, when most of these things will be on sale in developed countries where most of the driving is done on highways, at high speed.

Do you really think you will have cheap gas and 20x times the electricity cost? At worst an EV will be on par with a gas car when it comes to "fueling".
A big chunk of the population of a developed country live in cities so the commutes are short and they certainly do not involve highway speeds so saying that "most of the driving is done on highways" is simply wrong and baseless. A lot of cars in these countries mostly see city driving with occasional highway miles.

I want retro car aesthetics to come back. I want a hybrid that looks like it came from the 50s. I legit despise these oversized flat-faced/hyper-smoothed hunks of metal that are just one welded mass that only come in white or black.

This is my main gripe about the upcoming Mustangs: those big ass screens on the dash stick out like a sore thumb. If they used the digital gauge cluster instead of a big ass screen, the car's interior would look amazing. If they want to put a large screen on the dash, they should put it in the middle and keep the digital gauge cluster to make it look retro and futuristic at the same time.
I feel like the Ipad screen is an acquired preference but its wrong to say there was no effort put into it, the lack of features on the outside is in the screen

Finally someone speaks out about this. Oversimplified/minimalist or whatever they call it now designs are absolutely awful in my opinion. At least the way they are implemented right now in the car industry and beyond as well
Yeah it sucks in almost every industry ngl. Since it's actually LESS SIMPLE when something goes wrong. The lack of lines, angles, exposed bolts, etc. Make them a nightmare to take apart. Like those overly simplistic trailer trucks, tiny homes, or even Gaming Computers are way more annoying to maintain/expensive to deal with than a normal "Conventional" design.

The funny thing about anything trying to look "futuristic" is that in a mere 10 or 20 years, it'll just look even more dated than something that was just designed to reflect the current time.
I’ve been saying this for a looonng time. Way back since we started seeing this “futuristic” trash in movies that we’re trying to depict “the future”. Unfortunately there are politics behind this. They absolutely want to destroy the notion of a Car. They eventually want us all in an egg shaped “conveyance” that we don’t own and call like an Uber.

Hell, a recently unveiled cyberpunk-themed Camaro for Hot Wheels seems more appealing than a good handful of what was soon in the video.

I like futuristic designs, Like the Challenger EV, It’s when They take it too far when it hurts, So in short, I completely agree with this
The problem is the state of design education. As an aspiring car designer, and someone who's looked into car design schools, most of the students seem like they have zero clue what the real world is like. They're all rich basically, that's the only way they can afford to spend 300k to go to these design schools. So they're out of touch with the 99%.
Then it's engrained it them by their design teachers to make things weird for the sake of weird. Which isn't good design. Good design takes chances, but it shouldn't make people grimace in revulsion like a lot of these futuristic concepts do. It's not hard at all to create a unique and futuristic looking car. It is hard to make a unique and futuristic looking car that looks good.
Went to check out Art Center about 5 years ago, and it was simultaneously one of the most exciting and depressing experiences of my life. It was like I was among my peers for the first time. People who were just as passionate about cars and design as I was. Yet there was this overwhelming feeling that I was somewhere I didn't belong. These people were like me, and they were about as far away from me as one could get.
I remember thinking on the flight home how I genuinely wanted the plane to crash. That's how dark of a mindset I was in. It felt like I had been given the tour of some kingdom, had someone dangle the keys in front of me, and then throw me back out onto the street. I hope that makes sense.

I hate the excuse for these modern designs being that "People will come to accept them as they have come to accept many ideas in the past that have once been considered controversial" but this is not true. There are many designs that people universally hate especially in the car industry.

Edit: The fact that the "futuristic" designs look like what cartoons THINK the future is like makes the cars look unrealistic as all hell, which makes people feel that the designs are "cursed". What did the design teams expect tbh?
tbh we are actually getting close to simulating car engine sounds properly, I know some guy managed to do it, and an ev bike company got in contact with him about it. I'd say it'd be a nice addition to some EVs, its like how the keyboard layout is still the exact same as old typewriters.
Even though this is completely off topic.. it's the same with architecture and design of not just cars. I'm tired of people making barebone glass buildings that look like boxes or curvy shapes with no soul. It's sad how especially as someone from Vegas for example, we used to have resorts full of theme and soul. And now the new ones are stripping all that away. You can still add a ton of new technology but it's sad that everything is turning so bland.
This is why I love companies like Morgan they still make cars by hand

For me as an artist, a futuristic car (electric or not) should be still look like a car that is good looking and fun to drive (even tho I can't afford a car and driven one)
It's okay to be simplistic, but it still should look like a car that has that class and majestic feeling on it. Classic designs are everywhere, and I like them that they still looks modern and futuristic.

I'm so sorry your generation will never get to feel and experience the pleasure😢"

I hope we get to see an electric roadster with 60’s-70’s styling. A modern take on the likes of the Honda S600, triumph spitfire, MG Midget, even going into something like a 240z. Tiny cars that have basically no practical use, but are super fun to drive. An electric one of those could be surprisingly fun, if they kept the spirit of what a roadster is meant to be. A tiny, hopelessly underpowered car that you can drive the hell out of through a corner.
the best part is that most electrics have way more torque than gas cars, AND they have a completely flat torque curve, so even if it's terribly underpowered you could still absolutely shoot that thing out of a corner like a rocket

Electric motors are a blast in a tiny car without traction control, believe me. I still wanna drive with an ICE, but electric cars CAN be really cool

Also Thank you! This is literally my biggest gripe with vehicles. There’s a reason why so many people, like myself, Resto-mod vehicles, as well as have an appreciation for new but actual car designs. Sometimes certain designs, and characteristics come along and are timeless. I appreciate all car companies that have brought back retro designs but tastefully modernized them. Lately I’ve had a deep appreciation for Toyota/Lexus, their cars are interesting and cool, they get it.

I thought I was the only one who always hated the futuristic concepts & i've been hatin them since like forever.
we are moving further and further away from what made us fall in love with these machines. Soon enough, there won't be anyone who remembers the combustion engine. The way it rumbles beneath you, like a caged beast. The way that when you step on the throttle, that beast runs free into the distance, dragging you along with it.
I'm going to miss working on engines; on cars in general. These next few years will be our final hurrah to the motor vehicle we fell in love with.

classic cars (those from previous century), actually every “electronic” between 1700’s and 1990’s looked fancy
they made the product look classy in order to sell more
if the thing broke down it could be used as nice decoration (I have a coffee bean grinder as ornament but it still works)
modern stuff however can easily be thrown away and forgotten once they broke down or lose their function
You know what would really get people somewhat accepting of EV’s: some sort of “transmission.” Even if it is just programming into the motor, at least fool us with the ability to drive a manual car. It would also add some tuneability to the acceleration of the car.

The other day I saw a video about a guy showing off some kind of futuristic Audi, and it could go from an SUV to a pickup and when the guy sat into the car, he was required to use a special pair of AR glasses, while the dashboard appeared before him, like WADDAHEEEEEEL, if this is the future, I'm building that time machine and going back to the "good old days"
I agree wholeheartedly although the thing is something tell’s me to keep an eye out in the future for something big… I have his feeling sometime in 20-50 years time a company won’t give a F and try to bring back the “old school” stuff in a big way.

Yeah, I havent really been fussed on cars until the last year or so simply from not needing 1, but now I am looking more and more into it I just dont see why so many seem to want to abandon the more classical looks beyond knowing its cost saving for profit margins (paint choices, shape, no buttons only a touch screen saving money).
I can 100% understand how companies like Morgan and Caterham here are still going strong and have even gotten new competition from others like Pembleton and a bunch of other small startups taking inspiration from old designs or outright buying and renovating them for the modern day/EV market like the Morris JE Van, Citron 2CV in electric, etc.
I think every Manufacturer needs to watch this video. Remind them of all the car guys out there. Maybe even make them think of a really cool car in their past that they think might sell.
i agree with most of what you said. the most concept cars are getting too much “fUtuRIsTiC” indeed. some concepts are just gonna end up on some meme goofy ahh car lists. they look like bull💩. some i think do look cool, but i sure hope we keep car design how it should be, for instance: the Mclaren 750S. I do like me some crazy-@$$ concept cars. I miss those from the 1980s and 90s. And you could tell if a car maker was serious about making the car because it looks like it would actually work on normal streets. I tend to ignore the crazier concepts because I KNOW those are not going to make it to production.
