    Wonderful Idea!! I am having that exact problem with my weir! Thank you

    I just upgraded mine. I was surprised at how simple it worked and how much more drain flow I have. It's stealing flow from my overflow box. I'm going to upgrade my pump next week.

      +Jay Wilson I need to work seriously on presentation lol just wanted to show the idea... and thanks, bud... coming from a non-DIY-guy, its appreciated! :)

    I found it was easier to just PVC glue the outer pipe to the side of the drain pipe.
    Yes its not centered but it doesn't make a difference to the work ability of the overflow.

    looks like a good idea! Do they make flat caps for the bottom or just rounded?
    thanks for the video!

      Matson20 I have seen less rounded caps... I suppose it depends on the pvc manufacturer.. or you could probably use a plug in the caps place.

      Joey is the king of plagiarism. Typical Canadian. Canada is like a bland Wal-Mart brand version of a real country.

  • @greenthumbaquariums1185

    Wouldn't it work just as well to use Joey's version and just add a weight at the bottom to the keep the weir pipe from floating up? Something like a flat rock or a bag of sand.

      I thought the same, but I believe it could risk blocking flow

  • @TheBrentfleming

    Just drop the outer pipe to the bottom, end cap it let the overflow hang on the top edge of tank, solved.

    • @ChrisLocke1969
      @ChrisLocke1969  Před 5 lety +2

      solved? its already solved without a 30" pipe down the height of my tank.. thanks though

    just cut suction tube at very sharp angle and no changes to original setup....

  • @antonioluism.juliano7704

    Can I get help on the measurements for the pvc's? i have a 75 gallon tank. need advice, any help can do.

    • @ChrisLocke1969
      @ChrisLocke1969  Před 6 lety

      Antonio Juliano length measurements dont really matter, but the longer the better, it'll flow more effectively. Honestly though, i started drilling my tanks 6 months ago, and will avoid suction overflows whenever possible.

    • @antonioluism.juliano7704
      @antonioluism.juliano7704 Před 6 lety

      do you still have the past measurements of your old build? i don't think I can drill my tank, the glass is too thin.

    • @ChrisLocke1969
      @ChrisLocke1969  Před 6 lety

      +Antonio Juliano if you mean the lengths, it's not critical, whatever looks good to you

    What is the result? did it work?

    • @ChrisLocke1969
      @ChrisLocke1969  Před 8 lety

      absolutely... its never floated away and broke suction as the original design did.

    • @walidfadhil4617
      @walidfadhil4617 Před 8 lety +1

      Thank you for your quick response, I will try this version, despite I have no problem with the other version but just in case.

  • @nickidml
    @nickidml Před 6 lety

    Is it noisy? If so, how do you quiet it down?

    • @ChrisLocke1969
      @ChrisLocke1969  Před 6 lety

      nickidml it can be if the flow isnt high / fast enough... basically, if the outer tube isnt almost full, yes, itll gurgle. So if youve not a flow controllable pump, you may want to start with a smaller cutout on that inner pipe, slowing the flow.

    You can buy a end caps for pvc for $1

      Neil Chand and?

    • @A91xK24
      @A91xK24 Před 7 lety

      And? And I dont know why your buying a bunch of extra pieces and making things harder when all you had to do was buy a end cap and glue it onto the bottom www.lowes.com/pd/LASCO-1-in-Dia-PVC-Sch-40-Cap/1067815

    • @ChrisLocke1969
      @ChrisLocke1969  Před 7 lety +1

      Neil Chand cuz that's a hack abd would never hold the inner tube in place correctly, nor be watertight. I use a coupling and reducer bushing, equally as inexpensive... thx for the suggestion though.
