- The new HyperX Alloy Origins Core TKL keyboard with Aqua mechanical switches is an awesome keyboard for the price. However, there is 1 major flaw that can't be overlooked. Is it a dealbreaker? Check it out in this review!

the HyperX NGENUITY is now updated so that you can save your rgb, macros etc to your keyboard- meaning that you can now close down the software with your custom setings

The USB placement is actually rather common for TKLs. Most custom boards you will come across will feature the connector in between F12 and Print Screen. Both my Matrix 1.2og and KBD8X MKII have the connector there.

The cable on the right side makes sense to me. Seeing as more and more people have temperated glass sides on their case and RGB lighting so they will have the PC on the desk to show it off that largely means placing it on the right hand side of desk and the cable being on the right of the keyboard then means its closer to the case

Not quite different to what hundreds or thousands of CZcamsrs do.
You actually don't have to have the software open to sync the lighting effects. Once you have your custom lighting effect made, all you have to do is click on the Presets option and then choose which key (F1, F2 or F3) you want to sync the effect to. Once its synced, you can close the app!
This literally what i have been waiting for!!
You were killing it with the shots in this video man.
Wow, what a coincidence. I purchased this keyboard last Sunday (April 19) not even knowing it was a new release from HyperX, and now I see a Frankp video on it!
Thank you Frankp for reassuring me on this keyboard purchase! Can't wait for this bad boy to arrive on Monday.
I love where this "Gaming" keyboards going
people who love custom keyboards will still appreciate this keyboard
I still feel like the GMMK is a better deal, as for me it is the perfect clash of Gamer and Keyboard enthusiast. If you don't like the switches, swap in new ones. Hotswappable switches are the new gen of keyboards.

I picked this keyboard up about a month ago, and I have to say that its the best one I have gotten. Everything about it for the price its amazing, It's very solid all around the switches feel great for gaming, and sounds good too. The RGB lighting is very nice and bright and clean also, I really do recommend this board.
Have they added any new Lightning effects?
@@rasmusstigh8032 Effects are breathing, confetti, swipe, twilight, wave and sun.
There is also triggered effects which are flame, explosion and fade. You can set the color of everything. You can choose every single key's own color. I really think that this is the best keyboard ever. It's weight etc. everything about this keyboard is amazing. Only downside is the NGENUITY. I mean it's not THAT bad but definietly could have been better.
I got mine for $35 at a pawn shop, it was DEFINITELY worth it for the price I paid
Great content man, very helpful to me right now.
Editing is on point 👌
I have recently done a review on this same keyboard but with the Red switches and they are also very smooth with a bit heavier force to actuate than the Cherry MX Reds, in general a really solid keyboard for 90USD and the build quality is extremely well done, it feels like a premium keyboard in the hand.
I was recently deciding between the huntsman TE and this hyperx TKL with aqua switches (I''ve tried the hyperx reds, too, and honestly they are one of my favorite reds on the market). Just as a heads up, my Huntsman also reverts to default lighting when I close Razer Synapse, which is a bummer. Although Razer has some lighting profiles stored that you can access without synapse by using Fn + Ctrl + (1-7), which is nice when I travel with the keyboard - I still wish you could store your own lighting profiles on the board (your custom profiles that go into onboard memory only store macros and keybindings). Ultimately, even for the price difference, I went with the Hunstman because of the doubleshot pbt keycaps (The hyperx keycaps are very low quality/flimsy even for ABS keycaps), and because I hate the Microsoft store that much (Synapse isn't through the MS store).
Really enjoy your reviews and videos, keep up the great work !
Frank killing it with the color combos as usual!
I just got this keyboard not too long ago and I must say that the aqua switches are now my favorite to use. I REALLY wish you could buy them separately to put in another board. I had an alloy elite 2 and I just couldn't get used to the linear red switches, but once I used the aqua ones I instantly fell in love. They are literally a hybrid of red and brown switches and they are perfect to me. Would highly recommend for anyone who uses brown switches consistently.
I wish you could buy the switches separately as well, the aquas are nice to click!
Hyper X gear is always high quality :) I have the Alloy FPS TKL with Cherry MX Blues and it's lasted really well. The metal board makes a massive difference for durability

It makes perfect sense, if someone uses a wired mouse the cable usually is on the right, so the desk stay more organized with two cables near each other or together.
Hey randomfrankp,
Thanks for all of the amazing content.
This is really nice! Talk about innovative!
I've been using this keyboard for a couple months and honestly I love it (except for the software) honestly I was doubting hyperx's keyswitches but they're probably my favorite switches that I've used.
If you still have it how is it holding up for you?
@@kingshirt2437 honestly still works like new and the switches still feel great. Only thing is I would recommend replacement keycaps because the paint on the stock ones can scrape off fairly easily but that’s just how it is with most backlit keycaps so it’s not too big a deal and so far has only happened to 2 of my keys. The software also still kinda sucks as far as effects go but I mainly use static RGB so for me it’s not too big a deal.
the noise cancelation, i cant unhear the wonkiness i hear it everywhere heheheh lol
I got mine a month ago, I couldn’t stand the stock ABS keycaps so I changed them for some black Razer PBT keycaps and the result was awesome, one of the best keyboards in the market
They recently (I believe today) added a button called "save to keyboard" button on their software. It would be in the corner of the lighting section of their software. Just a heads up when buying this keyboard.
Bro the colours in this video fit so well

1:50, I thought I was having an asthma attack
Dude, where did you get your wire? It looks sickkk!
Okay, that keyboard looks sick!
I was thinking about getting an Sk61 or a Gk61 with Chinese painting keycaps, but I have to wait because I have a Blackwidow Chroma v2 which I got a year ago. It would be a total waste and a dumb idea if I got a new keyboard rn, besides I love my Chroma.
Nice content!
I have this keyboard for 2-3 weeks and it's genuinely amazing (I have the red switches version). It's definetly a huge change from my cheap membrane keyboard. One downside would be the spring noise, but I didn't really notice it when gaming or typing, it's just there when you press the keys harder. Also the ngenuity software problem is fixed (kinda?). It still sucks but the issue in the video is not there anymore.
Oh yeah the keycaps texture also leaves alot of "glossy" look to it after you've used it, but I'm not complaining.
Is this hotswappable?
@@jmdb8768 Nope, it's not. Kinda sad but I don't see myself swapping switches any time soon.
@@Synth2 but what if a switch breaks?? Can you not change it??
Is the sound boosted in the sound test? Because it sounds really loud, but it shouldn’t be super loud.
Been using mine with aqua switches for about 2 weeks and I love it :) Personally love using custom keyboards but this is my main for now
I’m thinking about getting it, would you recommend it?
This reminds me a lot of the razor black widow lite because of the price point wire positioning and even the switches have very similar specs to the razor orange switches.
Great Review! I have this exact keyboard with the red switches and I gotta agree with the what you said on the lack luster software. What's even more shitty is that I have the hyperx cloud flight headset and it uses a different software and oh....both programs can't be open at the same time. *Facepalm* what was hyperx thinking smh
The cable is on the right side so you can cable manage the wire from the keyboard with the wire from your mouse, given you are using a wired mouse that is.
Pretty convenient if you want to minimize desk clutter which most people using a TKL want, a clean and minimal setup. That's my spontaneous guess at least.
@xen Well not necessarily, there are still those that prefer a wired over a wireless for the reliability when gaming, and they too, can be a minimal setup kind of person, don't you think?
For my setup I would benefit from the cable being on the right side.
RFP: "I've never seen a keyboard cable on the right side"
Me: Slowly peeks down at my dusty Logitech G410
That customization tho. I LOVE it!
I'm almost certain that HyperX is going to fix the software problem, as on their website they they list "Onboard memory for three profiles" under the keyboard's feature section
Finally, review of this keyboard with aqua switch.
I love the typing feel of this keyboard. Definitely worth the money!!
Right side USB is like how custom TKL's that use, for example, the h87A pcb place their USB

6:08 Oof, 1.5 stars out of 5...
Honestly, no matter the app; I always see horrible reviews and rating in the Store.
Saucy G overall rating is bad
well its true.. the software is trash compared to their old one.
@Piotr Góździk well firstly, its still in beta - secondly its way less intuitive. thirdly; running through windows store is never a good sign for decent software.
Piotr Góździk it‘s not available on mac...that‘s a bit shitty
Thank you for this review. Don't understand the curled cable at all though. Do you?
One thing to note, I recently purchased the Ducky x Varmilo: Miya Pro, and this keyboard also has the USB port on the right side of the back of the keyboard.
Ain’t nobody gonna talk about how smooth that transition @ 1:49 was? 😤🙌
Edit: I’m dumb asf I thought it was a transition 💀I looked at the replay a few times and realised, when he picked it up, one of the keys came off 😂
Great idea tho, looks hella cool
1:49 ok frank now thats hella nice
Was worried when I saw it was a nice decent priced gaming keyboard with a blue (in colour) sounding switch as I'd just bought my new one. Was happy to find out the aqua were not like blue. Still happy with my Logitech pro GX blue now :) .
You can actually save the RGB settings to those 3 profiles (F1-F3) and then close the software. But it doesn't work perfectly (won't save that layered effects, etc.). And it ruins my hyperx RAM sticks RGB effects, in addition to collision with MSI Dragon Center. I really hope for an improvement.
I have had this keyboard for 5 months. It was the best purchase. The software works perfectly fine too.
Do you have to kill the HyperX program in order to pass the changes from the app to the keyboard? This is the only way to do it for me.
I think the cable being on the right side is a better idea. For those that like to do cable management it makes it so the mouse and keyboard cable can be closer together making routing them so much easier. I think the left or middle is just really bad design honestly.
I've I had this keyboard for many months (not sure how many but I think I got it summer of 2021) and It hasn't disappointed. I am not a keyboard nerd so I don't know much about them, but I game a lot, and it is pretty good. It isn't very good with typing though, I was in a typing class for a bit, and my accuracy went a lot lower when I would use it. This could just be because it's mechanical, could be the "gamer switches" but I will say, I make quite a lot of errors when typing with it.
Huntsman TE: if you want competitive advantage in switches, pbt keycaps, detachable cable on the left, better software.
Alloy Origins Core TKL: aqua switches(tactile), good sound, good rgb, good price, gunmetal build.
These are the good factors for both if you want.
I love the right side USB!
I keep my stuff in the right :)
Fr, I have the usb slot on the right top side of my desk
Can you make a video where you compare the Corsair HS70 vs the Razer Nari Essentiel ?
Good video, but actually you can save the changes you make in the ngenuity program, and if you save it it will work even after closing the program. Just save it to one of the 3 program keys (F1,F2,F3) or add a new one.
really nice kb, just got it. i customized the color scheme so all the keys glow blue/green, while WASD are always shades of red. honestly this was necessary cuz in the key glow it can take a second to distinguish wasd from the other keys, esp. with your peripheral vision.
i know its 3 months late but did the software work correctly?
@@acxze7594 works fine. never had a problem with it. honestly love how customizable it is.
I don’t know where I get it from, but I feel like you like the color blue.

Might have to get this because I’m using a ducky one 2 mini rn but I used to use an alloy FPS pro and this looks nice
Picked up one of these last weekend, but with their red switches. Overall I like it for a mass produced board, feels amazing to type on. But like you, I wasn't very thrilled to find that I had to install the app via the microsoft store...and that it has to stay running. Honestly, I don't understand why, if the app has to be running, it can't do so in the system tray like logitech's app. And I had issues with saving profiles, which if you're going to "save" a profile, why you would need to have the app running all the time. But that's the only issue I've had with it. For a mass produced board you can buy at micro center, it's by far the best quality for under $100.
